  1. Tons of new pictures of the Q renovation on the CPC agenda this week -- interior, exterior, programming space, etc. Interested in how the bollards are installed? You're in luck. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2017/12152017/index.php edit: fixed links
  2. That courtyard is ridiculously cool.
  3. I actually like the office-building design. The window pattern makes a very interesting view from inside the units. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/2017/12072017/image/2087_Random_IMG_26.jpg The street presence is awful though. When I see metal gates and walled-off elevations, I assume they are trying to address security concerns. There has to be a way to "friendly up" the design. Whether that's putting the garage below grade and elevating the first floor above the garage, or simply putting an apartment on the first floor along the sidewalk.
  4. Another apartment development in Ohio City, this one at Lorain and W. 41st. I like the somewhat-classic design and think it'll fit in well on the street. Though if this goes anything like the proposed apartments at W. 44th, they'll come back a month from now looking like this mess. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/2017/12072017/index.php
  5. What a mess. And the city has to pay for dredging the marina and dumping the dredged material at the homeowners shoreline. From the article.

The Square looks great. Thanks for sharing the pic, freethink.
  7. Here is an approximate view from Google Maps of the same area. Talk about depressing.
  8. Isn't that essentially how the JobsOhio tax credits work? I thought it was a rebate based on created jobs.
  9. Sure seems that way. That article reads just like those about Hudson earlier this year. Even mentions a bridge loan for "pre-construction activity", just like they got last Spring for 925 Euclid. I'm not convinced he's further along in either project. Hudson might have been gambling on short term spike in building value using tax credits and "shovel ready" plans. If the tax credits are canned the value of these buildings goes into the toilet and Hudson is left holding the bag.
  10. Hudson Holdings has been shopping the building to other developers. Millennia put in a bid in August -- that's that last public news. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20170820/realestate/170829989/frank-sinito-has-sky-high-hopes-real-estate-portfolio

  12. Another small step forward: http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2017/11172017/index.php ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVALS Ordinance No. 1304-17(Ward 3/Councilmember McCormack): Authorizing the Director of Capital Projects to issue a permit to the Playhouse Square Foundation to encroach into the public rights-of-way of Euclid Avenue, East 17th Street, and Brownell Court by installing, using, and maintaining an entry canopy, apartment balconies, a building overhang at the northeast corner, and an earth retention system with tiebacks.
  13. That's probably true. A comment in the article even said they bought it defensively. And I vaguely remember speculation in a previous article that Bedrock bought the Avenue District just to protect their parking.
  14. That is one my favorite streets in Cleveland. Glad to see this building will be renovated.
  15. Are images attached to old posts gone for good, or am I just not seeing them for some reason?
  16. A small step forward -- BZA agenda items for the tower: http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/bza/agenda/2017/crr11-13-2017.pdf No. 17-308: 1600 Euclid Avenue Playhouse Square Foundation, owner, proposes to construct a new 318 unit residential apartment building and a 550 space parking lot in a G5 General Retail Business District. The owner appeals for relief from the strict application of the following sections of the Cleveland Codified Ordinances: 1. Section 357.08(b)(2) which states that a 193’ rear yard is required and 0’ proposed. 2. Section 357.09(b)(2)© which states that a 97’ interior side yard is required and no interior side yard is proposed. 3. Section 353.01 which states that 250’ height limit is permitted and a 385.5 foot tall building is proposed. 4. Section 355.04 which states that the maximum gross floor area of the proposed building cannot exceed 1 ½ lot area or in this case 65,500 square feet allowed and 597,321 square feet proposed. 17. This un-TOD project next to the Triskett station in Kamm's is scheduled to go before the CPC on Friday. It doesn't look like anything of significance has changed since it first came out in September (see KJP's post in the Random dev thread here: https://www.urbanohio.com/forum/index.php?topic=3594.msg820202#msg820202) http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2017/11032017/index.php
  18. I felt like after 2 weeks in rehab I was finally getting UO out of my system. And now like a junkie, here I am again mainlining UO inside a dumpster behind Burger King. Welcome back folks.

It's extraordinarily difficult to make the World Series. Last year, they were knocking on the door of a title. Being up 3-1 in the WS and losing in 7 is "worse", but neither feels great... We'll get em next year. Let's go Tribe.
  21. Like a lot of public infrastructure, it can be a weight around your neck when times are tough, and an asset when times are good. I don't know how much we subsidize Burke annually, but it would cost a fortune to build new. It seems shortsighted to tear it down now. The alternative is what, lightly used green space? Because the demand clearly isn't there for commercial/retail. Hell, we can barely get anything substantial built downtown as it is.
  22. ^ The Union Trust (925 Euclid), May Company, and Post Office Plaza combined are nearly 3 million square feet of space.
  23. A long read, but very interesting article posted to Cleveland Scene about the history of the Asian carp and where we currently stand. It's reprinted from the book The Death and Life of the Great Lakes. The snippet below is the beginning where it details what they believe is the first major release of carp into the wild. https://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/exotic-fish-are-poised-to-infiltrate-the-great-lakes-whats-at-stake-and-what-can-be-done-to-stop-them/Content?oid=10788502
  24. Best news I heard all week. And if I'm not mistaken the earlier renderings showed something around 10 stories on that parking lot. Apparently they plan to go taller.
