  1. It looks as expected. A nice and inoffensive addition to the skyline since we don't have many glass skyscrapers. I wasn't expecting anything else for the reported price tag. We poured over other Pickard Chilton designs early on. The best looking examples were way more expensive for smaller sq footage buildings. I agree the east-west view is not its best angle. It looks fat and flat. The ground floors seem nicely detailed so the pedestrian view should be nice. I still think the tower should have been built on the Jacob lot.
  2. Or at least put an entry or exit onto Lorain court or 46th place. The lot abuts 2 alleys but still has access only on 47th. That street is a mess at start and close of school with families walking everywhere. Having an access to that lot avoiding pedestrians is a no brainer.
  3. The beige panels look to be insulation -- mineral wool/Roxul.
  4. I appreciate what you are saying but there was never going to be a second tower. If that 5 story garage on the eastern edge of the site was to be built to support a midrise on top, that's news to me.
  5. Except the last proposal was a similar density as this one. The number of apartment and hotel units didn't really change. The only major distance is the building height. The latest site plan fills more of the parcel.

Those look cool. I dig the stylized font.

They were in the game somewhat until half time but it never felt like they had a chance. Garland couldn't make an open bucket to save his life, and got beat on the defensive end. I lost it when Marcus Morris missed a dunk by himself under the hoop. It can all change tomorrow though. A bad shooting streak can end with a couple 3s and were back home 1-1.
  8. Their page was updated with lots of shiny renderings. Plus a cool CG video showing the apartment and amenities, plus maybe a ramen/Asian restaurant in the retail space. Here's a couple screengrabs of the restaurant and interior courtyard. https://live-driftwood.com/ https://live-driftwood.com/multimedia/driftwood-full-website/driftwood_full_video_presentatio.mp4
  9. How much would these franchises be worth if they were saddled in billions in stadium debt every 20 years. Probably wouldn't see so many new stadiums.
  10. Installing the top most glass all around was a big milestone today. From the south it looks completely finished.
  11. Sure. The comparisons are always a real stretch. I mean this is what a La Quinta looks like.
  12. Designs people don't like are always either A. called Brutalist or B. compared to suburban hotel brands.
  13. Of course this came from the Browns. The fact they are asking where the media got it is irrelevant. I always ask who ate the last cookie too.
  14. And lacking an ocean of surface parking where the mixed use buildings are.
  15. The project still hasn't gone through Landmarks. We'll see if this the final revision or there are more tweaks to be made.
  16. Yeah just a typo. I meant the Greenway. I ride it all the time but in no way should it block something like intercity rail.
  17. It sounds like the station should go where it has the greatest chance for growth, which seems like Tower City. They can wash their hands of this because a tiny stretch where the Green Line (edit: typo I mean red line green way) is. That's absurd.
  18. Agreed on that. The IX center has >500k sq ft of contiguous space and is surrounded by a sea of parking. Neither venue downtown will compete with that. The convention center has 220k sq ft of contiguous open space, not counting the smaller meeting rooms and medical mart. The Browns stadium if you converted the open field between the seats is only about 90k sq ft. The stadium obviously has tons of unobstructed seating and no support columns because, you know... sports. But it's substantially smaller than the convention center. https://www.clevelandconventions.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/HCCC-Atrium-Maps-Specs.pdf There are events suitable for large stadiums but there isn't much synergy between the two venues and it makes little sense to tie them together for "economic impact". All that does is artificially boost the stadium renovation numbers. It's disingenuous.
  19. Great article KJP. This is a little disappointing though.
  20. There are some events just better suited for the IX center. Renovating the Browns stadium isn't going to change that. The convention center is already far bigger than the open space of the Browns stadium. And it's purpose-built for conventions, with an attached hotel. It doesn't make a lot of business sense to spend a billion dollars to compete with our existing convention center we already spent $500 million for. It's one thing to say the stadium is old and needs renovation, but let's not pretend there will be any major economic impact.
  21. Except we already have a stadium and convention center. That has to drastically change the calculus.
  22. The planning commission yesterday said about the Cavs facility they welcomed the congestion and activity at the corner where the boat launch would be. We'll see if they apply that line of thinking to closing Huron. The problem these street closures are trying to solve are better served with road diets or bike lanes to slow traffic.
  23. That's progress at least. It would have to go before Landmarks next week to be on the May 6th BZA agenda.
  24. Nobody is building suburban housing in Glenville, nor is anybody suggesting we do. The new homes shown above are perfectly appropriate infill on mostly in-tact blocks. We should be building thousands more of them throughout the city.
  25. Yep. We took the waterfront line from tower city and back. Was mostly full each way.
