  1. Wasn't the Morgan Reed group the people that proposed converting most of the floors in the May Company building to a parking garage? His group likely just wants in on the parking game downtown. The structure across from the hotel would be a good start.
  2. Beautiful destruction. Can you delete the pics from your quote? Scrolling through them twice is annoying.
  3. I wonder how much having GE Lighting in East Cleveland helps/hurts setting a local headquarters in Cleveland. I would expect having engineers and local experience in the area would be a major selling point.

This link from that website caught my eye. http://www.gcpartnership.com/See-What-We-Do/Economic-and-Business-Development/United-for-CLE-Hub/How-You-Can-Support-the-United-Hub-at-CLE We should support the United hub by voluntarily overspending for their flights? Good luck with that.
  5. What development does anybody expect immediately next to this new multimodel center? There are 2 garages south of the proposed station and a third (new) proposed just east of it. The current Amtrak site is directly inline of the convention center windows so the county won't allow any real development there. Where is the developable land other than north/northeast of Cleveland Browns stadium, until (if) the city removes the shoreway and caps the rail lines. I like the project overall and agree we need a central multimodal hub. Maybe I just lack imagination.
  6. The market update compares October 2012 to November 2013. Considering the holiday week and decrease in tourism as the weather goes south, the lower occupancy in November is no surprise. The comparison is confusing.
  7. ^ These units were announced about 9 months ago and have been in MLS almost as long. Developers must be pretty patient if they only sold 2 units in that time.
  8. ^ There will be a lot more people living and working near this intersection over the next couple years. The next restaurant (or the one after this new one) will have a better chance than Black Dog. I went to Black Dog a couple times with my buddies. I liked the space. The food was okay at best though
  9. Desman was just the architect and engineer for the garage. Harbor Group bought it from AmTrust after they went bankrupt a couple years ago. At the time Harbor said they had no plans to develop the condos themselves but would sell the air rights to anybody interested.
  10. A couple months ago, Alvie's Restaurant moved from their space on Ontario to a joint venture with 21 Lounge on East 2nd. It's the alley across from the May Company building near Prospect. I guess Alvie's is running the catering and lunch. The 21 Lounge crew handle dinner and night service. I know the 21 Lounge owner Matt and his sister Alaina. Good folks. You should check the place out.
  11. Those pillars along the sidewalk are supposed to be covered with re-used black granite from the P&H facade. I remember they were removing large portions of it before demolition. The lower portion should look better when it's actually finished.
  12. I was thumbing through Dimit Architect's site the other day. There is a flash animation on their main page that scrolls through some of their past work. I snapped a screenshot of a cool rendering of Corner Alley at Uptown.

^ And what lesson was that? Join up with your buddies in a larger market and win titles? Lebron's success means every middle of the road allstar is going to think he can team up with his crew and win championships. I don't think Kyrie is going anywhere for a while but I doubt he hasn't thought about it.

Lebron didn't lose anything signing with Miami. The Cavs agreed to a sign and trade, which gave him his max contract. The last 2 years as player options I think.

^ Dion has shown flashes he can play starter minutes in the NBA. For now, he's the perfect 6th man for the Cavs, like a Ginobli. I see no reason why he and Kyrie couldn't gel and actually play together. Might take some maturing from both of them though.
  16. No surprise there. The landlord either doesn't like the new owners or their planned use for the space, or both. The neighborhood is at a crossroad. The last thing that block needs is another night club. The Blind Pig is already closed 4 days a week. Time for a better use of that space.
  17. Expert Crane is moving into bigger digs along I-77 -- a 50,000 sqft building on Grant Ave. According to their website, their current place on Leuer Ave, near E. 110th and I-90, is about 25,000 sqft. I don't recall seeing this posted. Nothing major, but it does show an uptick in construction and manufacturing that need services from companies like these. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20131201/SUB1/312019983 Ironically, these are jobs leaving Cleveland for Cuyahoga Heights, even though they are now closer to downtown. Here is the Loopnet record: http://www.loopnet.com/Property-Record/5755-Grant-Avenue-Cuyahoga-Heights-OH-44105/Xeo2SXF1w/#
  18. There are workers onsite 6 days a week well into the night. Give it a couple months before you start worrying about delays. The north side of the building facing the Breuer tower is completely covered. It looks like an insulating/structural layer that will go behind the brick. And they started installing a similar material on the columns along East 9th. Not much to look at it or I would have taken more pics. Maybe in a week or two.
  19. Cool article. Smart of their officials for taking a proactive approach in getting foreign investment. Except for this: That's horsecrap.

The article does a good job following the two main rules for any over/underrated list: 1. Rail on anything that is currently popular. 2. Tell me how awesome something is that I and nobody else gives a shit about. Barbecue overrated? Brunch overrated? How can an entire meal type be overrated? Brunch is popular because the "upwardly mobile" (from the article) are probably out drinking the night before and want breakfast when they get up at noon.
  21. Yes, and no. Some of the older condo buildings never sold all of their units. The Park Building on Public Square took unsold units off the market and is holding onto them, presumably for a higher price. The Waterstreet building on West 9th is slowly converting apartments to condos. They trickled a few units onto the market the past couple years. This might be the first new building with condos, but not the first new unoccupied units. And for what it's worth, many existing condos have been listed for sale for months.
  22. Ever leave something in your car? Are you going to ask valet to get it for you? Not everybody likes valet service. It's not often the slate is wiped clean for new construction downtown. The county HQ and now the hotel are wasted opportunities for built in parking. Which only increases demand at nearby lots and garages. I agree with dave68. Removing height for parking seems like a no brainer. A ridiculous desire for height at the expense of usability - form over function.
