  1. Property values are a reflection of economic growth. You came here asking for reasons to support the streetcar. Suddenly you don't care about return on investment? Maybe we should just light the money on fire. Put on a huge bonfire out in the burbs. Lol what the hell does that even mean. The suburbs go as the city goes. What should city council do if not treat the city as a business investment.
  2. You had an opportunity to prove the people wrong that were calling you a troll. You came here asking for concrete numbers and justification for building the streetcar. Quite a few replies later your response is dismissive and filled with strawmen. There are tangible benefits to continuing the project over pissing money down the toilet and getting nothing. Your comments about investing downtown instead of the neighborhoods is funny considering that is where the bulk of economic activity occurs within a city. Besides that how many hundreds of millions of dollars has Cinci spent on highways, bridges, and other infrastructure outside the city over the last decades? If it's anything like Cleveland, I'd wager a lot.
  3. Yeah, let's move into a thriving neighborhood. Then encourage wrecking it to make me happy. Even if that means destroying what made it thriving in the first place. Lol
  4. I suspect this information has been linked, quoted, and argued about over and over again. And people against the streetcar cry ignorant and bury their heads in the sand. We provide real numbers and you question its legitimacy without any evidence of your own. Here is a article citing real examples from various rail projects. http://www.rtd-fastracks.com/media/uploads/nm/impacts_of_rail_transif_on_property_values.pdf
  5. I was in downtown Detroit a couple times this past summer. Great potential for redevelopment but needs better connectivity between the areas. Too many discontinuous restaurants/shops separated by empty and dark blocks. Nice photos. Hate the Tigers though.
  6. Happy Dog is taking over the old Euclid Tavern space. The name and decor stays though. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/11/happy_dog_to_reopen_euclid_tav.html#incart_river_default An interesting quote. You guys were wondering about the old Food Co-op building that was just demolished. Unfortunately it's just for a surface lot.
  7. Nice idea. In addition, I'd propose linking it with the Healthline and running the Blue down Euclid into downtown -- of course converting the Healthline to light rail in the process.
  8. Beautiful building. I'll pour one out for your loss, Dayton. Nobody is stupid enough to believe that was a mistake. The article says there is a $500 fine from the city.

    There. Fixed that for you.
  10. The photo says the entrance way will be preserved and relocated. I'm guessing it won't be part of the hotel design.
  11. Is anybody surprised the design is all over the place? There was that public meeting a couple months ago where Cooper probably got all sorts of stupid suggestions. It must be modern, but fit in with the existing buildings. It must be tall, but not look out of place. Etc.
  12. I'm not a fan of "toothpick on a table-top" design that is typical of modern convention hotels, and this one is no different. It has no mass or weight in the skyline. I would rather see a stocky design that fills the space more effectively. Too bad they didn't show renders of the L-shaped tower. As for the design itself, we'll all be better off when architects drop the notion that all glass facades are considered modern. It lacks creativity. Litt's article mentioned they are still deciding on stone versus pre-cast concrete for the pedestal features. Turner used concrete for the Med Mart facade and it looks mediocre at best. Use a quality stone. With that said, I'm sure the final renders will look better when the details are worked out.
  13. Fair enough. All we know is that a friend of an UO'er was jacked near a busy intersection in an area trying to rebrand itself. Which is why I think it's a bit silly to place blame on anything other than the douche bag with a gun. Am I unfairly assuming he didn't do anything to deserve getting robbed?
  14. He wasn't walking through East Cleveland with a pocket of cash looking to score smack from the gangs. You can't blame the victim for doing something most people consider perfectly reasonable. Their response would otherwise be to get the hell out of the area. Can't convince the masses to move back into the city while continuously making excuses for the criminals.
  15. For my own sanity's sake I hope this is a tongue in cheek jab at idiots blaming the victim for getting in trouble. As to your point, when should the victim accept responsibility? When there is no onsite parking at Happy Dog, most people are are going to walk some distance from Detroit for on street parking. Should he accept responsibility for walking a block to get to his car? :-o
  16. :drunk:
  17. I don't think KJP is hinting at anything in particular. Nearly every medium to large class C structure is in some phase of redevelopment. The implication is that at some point, there will be nothing major left to convert, which would make new build more cost effective. The most recent large scale projects in the planning stages: Worthington building in the Warehouse district: http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20131020/SUB1/310209974 May Company building in Gateway district: http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20130901/SUB1/309019968 edit: posted too late
  18. There are no alerts but the Redline is running late and ridiculously slow. I'm sitting here putting along under 30 mph westbound to the airport from tower city. The train was almost 10 minutes late and it took 15 minutes just to get to W117. The driver said something about minor delays due to traffic signals. An alert would have been nice. Edit: Took about 45 minutes including wait time at tower city. Nothing ridiculous but not very convenient.
  19. Naming rights can always be bought regardless of leased space.
  20. Red's blade sign is up. Looks plain during the day. Lights up nice at night though.

There is no way Tebow coming to Cleveland will be kept a secret. It was leaked when he was at the Cleveland Clinic for something unrelated to the Browns.
  22. It isn't quite the zero-sum game you are making it out to be. Clearly there are more people coming downtown and to Ohio City then back in the 90's. The typical family's entertainment budget has gone up, so the overall pot is bigger despite the lagging economy and lost population. That isn't a Cleveland phenomenon. I agree though the entertainment districts might be growing faster than we can support. Besides FEB, there are new restaurants opening in the Playhouse Square, Uptown, Casino phase II (eventually), and more places in Ohio City south and west of Lorain/W25th. We should hope for population growth in Cleveland, not more transient visitors like tourists and conventioneers. </soap box>
  23. Any surface lot on that site plan is a candidate for another building if this project is successful. I agree it's odd the buildings in the facebook photos aren't in the phase 2 plans, but clearly something changed.
  24. The increased number of truck and SUV models through the 90's is going to skew average prices. It's no surprise it came down somewhat when the SUV market tanked.
