I'll wait for something more conclusive than speculation from doctors that haven't actually seen Mingo. A bunch of doom and gloom to rile up readers.

Interesting that Regghi has moved over 92.3 (and STO, as well). I must have missed the official announcement of that happening. I wonder if 92.3 is starting to rattle 850 a bit. Regghi and Ken Carmen host the Coach Chud show Tuesday nights. He hasn't moved to 92.3, AFAIK.

^ Cleveland is more overcast than the towns south when there is a significant temp difference between the air and water. Not just in the winter. April through June, there have been times I've left downtown completely overcast to get clear skies by 480 or 82 heading South. Only to come home to the gray. It happens when I drive out to Solon for work too. I don't know how far west you need to go to avoid it.
  4. Got more suggestions than I was expecting. Thanks. I'll give a couple of them a call.
  5. Anybody have a real estate agent they trust that they can refer to me? I'm looking for a place in Ohio City or Tremont in their respective bustling areas. Looking to move mid next year. I want a fixer-upper. G/F (soon fiance... maybe) wants something move-in ready. We are at odds...
  6. MayDay posted interior pics that show the windows are much bigger than they look. They should be perfectly fine for apartments and hotels. I agree the building is ugly, though. :-P. The pics reposted by KJP: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,20128.msg637871.html#msg637871 The crane in your photo is being used to assemble the pit crane in the middle of the construction site. You can see the red mast in the first photo. It was about 6-7 floors tall when I left for work this morning, but they were still assembling it. edit: Jesus, I should have refreshed before posting...
  7. ^^ You want simple and efficient, how about a sling shot? Talk about iconic. Load it up. *fwip* Over the river.
  8. ^^ The city clearly played favorites with Gilbert versus the Columbia and Stanley buildings. I agree, it's going to bite them in court. The Stanley block was torn down in the interest of public safety. Why not the Herold? In this case we have somebody actively trying to buy the building for renovation. I hope that's enough.
  9. I go to Fitworks all the time. Their hours suck but they are way cheaper than Titans. And what will their prices be when the competition next door closes? They are already $15 a month more than Fitworks.
  10. I routinely walk past there and peek through the windows. The same half filled pop bottles and trash have been sitting on the table by the entrance for months. Doesn't look like anybody has been in there in a while.
  11. That tells me there are a bunch of reasons, all relatively equal, that explain why cars are becoming less popular. The country just doesn't have the same car culture it did in the 50's and 60's. Part of that is cars have gotten considerably more complex and expensive. E-rocc, Pontiac has been dead for 5 years. I wouldn't expect a Firebird any time soon.

I'm sick of having to apologize for being a Browns fan. The Rams blow and Bernie was 100% right, even if he probably shouldn't have said it on the broadcast. Fisher and Clemens should worry about getting ready for the season opener, not what the opposing team's color guy was saying on TV.

    ^ About 3 days.

These pics are from a couple months ago. Somebody was parked illegally in my garage in downtown Cleveland. It's below ground so they can't tow anything from it. Instead they just get das boot. The note from the person that's supposed to be parking in that spot made me laugh.
  15. As a side note, I was in the Warehouse District with the girlfriend a couple weeks ago. They really need to upgrade the lighting along W 6th and 9th. The yellow-orange light from the sodium vapor lamps is really dingy and depressing for this area.
  16. Pics taken this morning while I was out for a run.
  17. Haven't we been told that industry will pop-up along this corridor? So who exactly are the walls meant to insulate from.
  18. Wow, I thought you were just joking about the noise walls. That's pretty f*cked up.
  19. This thread was borne out the contempt over tearing down existing urban structures, not about suburban style infill. Your insistence that we need "some necessary infrastructure and infill" is odd, considering we had that infrastructure and we're still tearing it down. Worse still, suburban style development only breeds more suburban style development. Infill from strip plazas won't encourage somebody to come in with a mixed use structure built up to the street. That is ridiculous. The two don't mix together.
  20. That wasn't always the case, was it?
  21. Why can't it be both? It's not my place to tell other people how to spend their money. I think we all agree it's up to the city/county government to develop zoning patterns. The problem is they are a reflection of their constituents -- or more accurately, the constituents that have the money and power to get things done. Realistically those have the most power to influence zoning reform (or lack thereof). It sounds stupid and perhaps idealistic, but I want people to want to build in the classic urban style. Without a collective desire to preserve existing structures or at the very least build new similar mixed use structures, the city will never see the revitalization we are hoping for. Or I am off my rocker.
  22. The point of the post is less about zoning and more about the general trends of development in the city. The attitude brought on by most developers (and likely the retail driving it) is still heavily suburban in nature. Sure, better code would help, but that isn't the point. Rules on setbacks and parking requirements have been relaxed numerous times before, so if a developer really wanted a traditional mixed-use structure, he'd get it. Nearly all of the mixed use developments are repurposed old buildings. How many mixed use structures have been built new in the area? Uptown... and?
  23. Certain parts of Cleveland have seen a renaissance of sorts when it comes to redevelopment of historic buildings. It just seems for every step forward downtown and in University Circle, there are several steps backwards in the surrounding neighborhoods. For example, we've recently heard demolition requests for several mixed or single-use structures built up to the street. 3600 Euclid Ave (at East 36th) 3441 East 137th (at Kinsman Rd) 2132 West 25th (former Club Envy) The first two were actually on the city planning commission agenda for 8/2. The former Club Envy space was discussed in the recent thread for Skylight Financial moving from downtown to Ohio City. In all three cases, the buildings are being demolished for surface parking. For every Uptown, there are a dozen smaller demo projects that, while individually don't amount to anything significant, collectively show the city as a whole still going the wrong direction. This is probably nothing you guys haven't discussed before. I just found myself getting particularly discouraged today catching up on the (un)development news.
  24. As long as there are pretty girls and alcohol, there will be a need for night clubs. The Warehouse district became pretty saturated with clubs over the years. They will get weeded out as the area loses its cool. The irony is when my gf and I moved downtown we purposely avoided the Warehouse District because of the young atmosphere. If I were in my early 20s we'd be all about it. The area really needs more of a day time population. I don't count the residential since I'm guessing they don't work there. The MM/CC might help being just a couple blocks away.
  25. Nice article. Totally ignores the hundreds of apartments in the Warehouse District before East 4th was redeveloped, though.
