Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
It's hard to say what the old digs are worth without knowing it's current condition. And it's hard to tell if the Halle Warehouse is a bad deal without knowing details of the planned renovations and build-out (aside from new windows, which aren't cheap). I mean, ultimately the county could have gotten screwed. It doesn't seem like it to me at first glance. Especially considering the cleveland.com article mentioned that the final lease rates were a result of months of negotations and a bidding war.

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
A couple pics of the county headquarters pit from last week. I posted similar pics in early June (that was swallowed up by the server crash) and the pit was still full of debris and parts of the foundation of the eastern half of the P&H building. It looks like the site is mostly cleaned up and they starting the new foundation along the western edge along East 9th. edit: Sorry, the pics are full of noise. It was evening and I couldn't get a decent focus on my crappy smartphone.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Updates to the 5th Street Arcades signage. A couple weeks ago they installed the mast walker near the corner. Then last week, they finally restarted the work. I'm guessing they couldn't finish the signage until the facade was finished, which is probably why the east side still isn't installed.

Commercial leases are usually quoted at sq ft per year.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
The county clearly wasn't looking for straight industrial space. A quick look for warehouse space on Loopnet shows space anywhere from $1 to $6 psf, the latter being speculative new construction on a green field. http://www.loopnet.com/Ohio/Cleveland_Warehouses-For-Lease/ Go ahead and find the county a cheaper space that will function as a working office and storage facility for less. Oh, and it has to be near downtown. Let's see some comparables.

I think they made up for it with the cool fire pit just to the right of that pic.

$1 million per year for 208,000 sq ft is too pricey? I love the move. A historic building gets filled and the county doesn't spend a ton in the process. http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2013/07/cuyahoga_county_to_rent_storage_space_in_halle_warehouse_as_part_of_consolidation.html

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
He didn't even pursue charges. There is clearly more to the story than reported. Was he drunk getting into it with (drunk) Indians fans? Or do you think he was actually punched randomly by some guys downtown. Nobody deserves getting cold clocked. That's just cowardly. I'm just saying things are rarely that simple.

Where was this desire to compromise over the last 50 years as buildings were torn down for surface lots and parking garages without street level retail? The pendulum is starting to swing back towards an interest in urban living with less of an emphasis on cars, and suddenly people living in the suburbs want to "compromise". That is true in theory. In practice, however, there has been exactly 1 parking garage built recently in Cleveland with street level retail. The others built over the last 10 years simply create more dead spots -- Pinnacle building in the Warehouse District, Horseshoe Casino garage, several in UC. Hell, University Hospitals is building a new garage right now set back from the street without retail. To answer your question directly, the money to make density and cars coexist simply isn't there. We are talking underground parking or properly built garages.

Yep. Rendering or not though, it's nice to know that color still exists under all that dirt.

We tear down buildings for parking all the time. Zoning also has very antiquated rules for X # of parking spaces per square foot of space. Automobile traffic is the primary reason areas become less walkable. The two do not mix. What do you suppose is more likely? (A) UC will lobby for infrastructure improvements for transit to alleviate traffic issues, or (B) they will build outwards with more parking to accommodate the additional cars.

As I said. that's the consensus here. I'm the iconoclast. However, I suspect the majority sees things my way. If you're trying to sell a specific project, it helps to keep that in mind. Imagine that. People generally viewing things the same way on an enthusiast forum. It makes sense to funnel money into a growing demographic. And that demographic isn't you, even if you are the majority for now. The OC is throwing good money after bad.

:shoot: The east side of the property already has a huge setback. It's called Mall B.

Cleveland / Lakewood: The Edge Developments
Yeah, it does seem like they changed course on the church. The last proposal basically showed the main church structure being leveled, with just the entry way still standing. I don't know what changed, or if it was a last ditch effort to save something of the church. Who knows.

Neighbors in Action is a local activist group that opposed the site plan from Carnegie companies for the "Shoppes on Clifton" project. The tentative site plan we all wrung our hands over showed a crappy one floor shopping plaza with parking along the sidewalk in front of the building. I believe the site plan also showed the abandoned church at the corner would be demo'ed for parking. It sounds like they (the NiB) hounded the CDC and city council to force Carnegie to re-evaluate the proposed layout.

Eh? I see roads rebuilt and widened all the time with the same number of lanes kept open for the public.

Of course. You can't afford to rest on your laurels even with something this big hanging over the team and parent company. Besides the investigation might last another year. Can't sit around waiting for resolution. Until then it's business as usual.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Keep in mind it's just a proposal. There is no developer attached to the project, nor is there financing. They could be years from breaking ground.

Cleveland: Downtown: Technology Center
Filling in the huge windows with brick looks horrible on all the other unrenovated warehouses in that area, and it'll look horrible on that one. Even if they plan on "modernizing" the entrance. I wish I had 4 hands to give that rendering 4 thumbs down.

Construction updates at the Hansa Import Haus on Lorain and W 28th. Photos taken yesterday evening, 7/14/2013. We lost quite a few posts, so here is the background on the Hansa Haus expansion: http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/hansahouse042513.aspx http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/08/slovenian-inspired_hansa_brewe.html

Anybody that thinks this city isn't still corrupt as shit, I've got this bridge to sell you. It's got this wonderful view overlooking some surface parking.

I get that sinking feeling in my stomach every time I see this thread pop-up on the "new post" list. This news is why.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
That's an interesting idea. Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals could work with the device manufacturers to make the place a sort of satellite hospital using the latest medical equipment. If God forbid, I ever need a CT scan or MRI, I could schedule an appointment through CC or UH for a visit to the medical mart for tests using the latest gear. The device manufacturers get to show off their new technology and I get to use the latest equipment.
