Late to the party, but here nonetheless. At the Christmas Story House. I had had 2 surgeries a couple weeks earlier so not only was I feeling it, I was so hopped up on pain killers people around me were tasating the opiatic buzz... but this place was still a blast. It was the first time we'd gone. I loved it. I'm a terrible "poser" as I'd prefer to be taking the photos, not really starring in them. In the real recent past I've lost all the piercings. Ah yes, time to be a grown-up!
  3. Thanks for the encouragement and congratulations, jjames0408, MuRrAy HiLL and Hts121! ClevelandOhio... Thank you for digging up the last 3 months of reported crime there. I appreciate that. MyTwoSense, pictures? It's like you read my mind. KJP, yup... that's the house, all right! I had a feeling it was the house when I first found it here on the forum and I compared the pictures and sure enough, same house. I've also found it in old photos of the Cultural Gardens and that area from the Cleveland Memory Project. I love this house and I love geeking out on local history and stuff, so what a perfect marriage this is for me.
  4. Thanks BelievelandD1, my thoughts mirror your own very closely! I'm eager (and ready) for a change of scenery. MyTwoSense, nothing bothered me about the area when I saw it, like I said... it's impressive looking to say the least! I did some research as I wanted to better put together, in my head, a visual of what the area might be like without having anyone I could ask that may have personal experience. I came across a lot of forums that had generalizations and not much else, and I try not to get swept up in that kind of thing. I read through many posts on this forum and have seen a lot of your posts and I can tell you are fond of the area. It was nice to read firsthand accounts from people who actually have an idea of what the neighborhood is like! I don't really have any specific questions, I suppose. I plan to get in there and get to know my neighbors. My current neighbors are all friendly and it makes living in any place that much more peaceful if you can talk to the people around you. I have noticed so many of the residents there are long-timers. Part of the reason I'm so amped up about this place is I think it's an opportunity, given the house itself and the area, that won't present itself again anytime soon.
  5. This will be a half introductory post, half thanks post. We live in Euclid and were after a larger home, more space. We spent a ton of time looking in Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights. Then we found and immediately fell in love with a gorgeous, timeless, HUGE house on East blvd. Across the street are the Lithuanian and Grecian Cultural Gardens. Seeing it in person really pushed it over the edge. This house is a stunner. I started to do a little internet checking up on the neighborhood. I wasn't getting much until I found the proper neighborhood names. I say "names" as the house is technically in St. Clair-Superior but ridiculously close to being in Glenville. I have to admit, it was a little scary to see some of the (mostly) forum posts I read. To the point of almost forgetting about the house. But I just can't. And I began browsing the threads here instead and they are honest without being negative for the sake of being negative. So thanks for that. In about a months time, I'll actually be living in the awesomest house I've ever seen. And shortly after that, I'll be removing the attack of the 1970's and 1980's found inside :-D What's funny is the house is actually photographed in this thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,18871.msg384005.html#msg384005
