  1. This is very concerning, and somewhat depressing. As a region, we have to get this train back on track..
  2. It's just different. It's not square, there's curvature to it. The curtain wall is multi-colored. Can't think of a building in another city... Plus I don't want to say a building and have people not like the comparisons between the two. I'd like people to see the rendering and judge for themselves...if that makes sense? Trust me, I'm excited to see more as well so I sure hope they release the final design soon. I do caution - what I'm seeing could change based on where the cost estimate comes in/county final say. But It's a cool looking building.
  3. And if you had to guess how tall based on the image you saw, i'm wondering if you might say it is just about as tall as the Breuer. ;) So if I'm understanding these subtle clues being dropped...this means, we're about to see a new highrise almost the same height as the Justice Center and Federal Building. This perspective shows the potential impact the best: http://www.downtowncleveland.com/media/87806/arial_city.jpg EDIT: Here's a list of Cleveland's tallest...perhaps the clue is either 28 stories or 390 ft: http://www.emporis.com/statistics/tallest-buildings-cleveland-oh-usa Let's hope that it is the 390 feet and not the 28 stories. Hotel floors are not as high as office building floors. For example, from Emporis, the Westin is 222 feet and 22 floors, so hotel/residential is about 10 feet a floor. An office building is closer to 13 feet a floor. Of course, it could be higher with a crown at the top like the Marriott. I also think the length of the hotel tower would be oriented East and West to take advantage of the views of the lake to the North and the skyline of the city to the South. Klingaling, can you confirm the orientation? I can't. I saw another rendering today but still nothing around it for perspective. I believe there were a few orientations being looked at, but can't confirm. I just want the darn thing to be published so we can all bask in the glory of another high rise :)
  4. The company I work for is involved so I saw it internally. I'm not one to take a pic and post due to confidentiality and whatnot, but hopefully renderings will be public in some capacity soon.
  5. And if you had to guess how tall based on the image you saw, i'm wondering if you might say it is just about as tall as the Breuer. ;) It's tough to say because the rendering had nothing else for perspective, but based on the "base" of the hotel, I assumed that was as tall as the medical mart (to keep in line with the group plan) and went from there. If I HAD to guess, I'd say 25-30 stories. I suggest you trust my hint. I'm thinking you may know more than me, which is intriguing!

  7. I'm sorry I meant to post in the convention center hotel thread, so I posted there instead. Let's take the convo there
  8. Well, saw the rendering today for the Hotel. Don't know if it's final or close to final but in my humble opinion, it's legit. And tall. And will change the skyline. It's architecture we really haven't seen in Cle. Couldn't tell you how tall but it looks good. I'm sure some people will disagree if they saw it, but it's definitely more modern.
  9. Pretty excited about the le meridian project. Definitely makes Cleveland and that stretch of Euclid more appealing.
  10. ^ it's just maintenance. There was a giant crack in the brick all the way up the building and they had to take the brick off back to the structure. There was fear that the brick would collapse.
  11. Isn't the mall manager and owner the same thing in this case? Both FCE?
  12. I thought there was another food establishment going where Cadillac ranch was?? Owners of the new JQs talked about a concept they were going to put there, no?
  13. ^completely agree. That prospect side needs a lot of work but if completed, wow would that stretch between E4 and tilted kilt be awesome. Awesome news all around, and I hope they can pull it off
  14. I always appreciate your inside info but a dept. store at CP and AG moving fwd despite the sale is not good news to me or the city of Cleveland. But I'm glad you guys are getting some work from it. I agree with you. I'd much rather the store be within the City, particularly downtown. And I do wish AG would reconsider downtown as well, but that's for another thread..
  15. It was postponed until the vote went through but it's still moving forward.
  16. So, I hate to start speculation, but we are working on some estimates for AG at crocker, and it appears there is going to be an upscale department store included that is currently not in Ohio. I'd love to spill all of the beans, but please understand that I cannot. Hopefully an announcement will be made by the end of the year.
  17. Keep in mind, it's a tower crane and can be jumped. So the height of the crane may not reflect the actual height of the building... Walking past it at lunch, it looks like it'll have to be jumped because its not high at all. And to comment on someone's post above regarding the windows - didn't MayDay do a photo set a while ago where he was able to tour the inside and take photos? If I remember correctly, the windows aren't as small as they seem, and the views are awesome.
  18. ^ I agree. Came home last night and saw all of the restaurants crowded and tons of people on the street. It was also a perfect night out.
  19. That is a correct statement. And to the above, they are looking at significant structural changes.
  20. Did they come out with a massing? Anyhow, as far as below grade parking goes, the more I think about it, the less likely I see it happening. Costs on the new CC were extremely elevated due to severe groundwater infiltration for the mass excavation. Handling that water throughout construction was a bear, and it's not something I see these guys doing if they don't have to. How do you know costs on the new CC were elevated due to severe groundwater infiltration?
  21. There are two tower cranes up just south of mayfield and west of the rapid tracks for the new parking garage at UH. Forgive me for not taking photos.
  22. CLEjoe - if you look up thread and/or read the Crains article, it states hotel, restaurant, condominiums, and health club
  23. Some good press on Ohio's three Cs... Cities’ hearts beating strong in Ohio’s three C’s Euclid Avenue was the spark in Cleveland, as a bus rapid-transit system ignited development along the important Downtown artery once lined with so many mansions it was known as Millionaires’ Row. The rebirth of downtown Cincinnati started with Fountain Square and in Over-the-Rhine, a historic neighborhood filled with stately but crumbling homes. In Columbus, the Arena District rose on the blighted site of a long-closed prison. This started a wave of development that has spread south, to the river and the land formerly occupied by the failed City Center mall. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/business/2013/02/04/cities-hearts-beating-strong.html
