  1. Looks like another convention: Cleveland Convention Center ink three-year deal with Ohio Music Education Association CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI) has announced a three-year agreement to host the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Professional Development Conference at Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center (CMMCC) in downtown Cleveland in 2015, 2017, and 2019. http://www.woio.com/story/19237235/cleveland-convention-center-ink-three-year-deal-with-ohio-music-education-association
  2. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120807/FREE/120809872 Cuyahoga County hosts gathering to outline its property consolidation plans By JAY MILLER and STAN BULLARD 1:19 pm, August 7, 2012 Under the ornate, four-story Cleveland Trust Co. rotunda at East Ninth Street and Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald this morning kicked off what he hopes will be a modern-day land rush. There are some big names in the NEO development world that attended this... I can't wait to see the proposals.
  3. Crain's coverage of Geis's proposal: http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20120806/SUB1/120809915 Offices at Burke first in plan for lakefront Geis Cos. will lease 20 acres, talk with tenant From this, it appears that they aren't trying to steal from the CBD, but rather from the 'burbs or elsewhere...
  4. Don't know how i feel about this yet :wtf: ... it's good to see private support, i just like highrises   Geis Cos. float plan for lakefront office project, on 20 city-owned acres near Burke Lakefront Airport http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/08/geis_cos_float_plan_for_lakefr.html#incart_river_default
  5. ^ Agree. I liked the old page, too. It seems too discombobulated now
  6. Is that big? I mean, how does that compare to other conventions? When announcing conferences/conventions coming to town, unless it's the Democratic or Republican national conventions, please help the rest of us understand what the size of it might be. I honestly don't know. I just saw 2,000 and got excited

  8. Interesting video/interview from WKYC http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/252784/45/Between-the-Lines-Medical-MartConvention-Center-update
  9. CLEEB5 - I apologize for providing incorrect information; apparently my source was incorrect also. Thank you for clarifying and glad to hear this is moving forward. I agree with Strap when I say that I feel the CiF is very important and beneficial to this region's future projects and look forward to what is to come. Thanks again for the clarification.
  10. Clueless - I actually work for a CM firm and have been at the Clinic for 4.5 years doing work and am still stationed there. You're right about the parking lot. They are continuing the mall that borders Glickman Tower and the Intercontinental Hotel through the Crile building (pyramid looking bldg) to 105th. I heard a rumbling last week that the CC bldg (building with the florist) could be coming down soon but I don't know how true that is. As for the immediate future, I know they are looking to build a Neurological building (couple hundred million dollars) and a cancer bed tower (hundred million or so). To my knowledge, those buildings will be on already vacant land on main campus. The neurological building is going through programming so we may know more in 6-12 months. That's all the insight I have, other than interior renovations...which more than likely don't interest people on here.
  11. Loretto is correct. They based it on the global fortune 500 list, of which the USA has 132. The article posted doesn't lead you to that conclusion, though. You have to go to the data they used and read that article.
  12. Right. I would like to see CLE on the diagram though... I just find it weird that Akron would be on the list and not Cleveland. Along with the other cities I listed above.
  13. ^ I find it odd that Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Denver, among other fairly large cities, are not even mentioned in the article or shown on the diagram... Makes me wonder. I'd at least like to see Cleveland compared to the rest.
  14. i knew this two months ago... but figured i'd let the press release it first  Cuyahoga County's new convention center is now expected to open early http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2012/07/cuyahoga_countys_new_convention_center_is_now_expected_to_open_early.html
  15. Thanks Htsguy. It was my understanding that a lot of it had to do with the indictment of the former head of the Cleveland International Fund. I wish I was involved in this project and knew more, but this is all I got from the person I spoke with.
  16. Thanks KJP! I look forward to any insight I can (hopefully) provide, and knowledge I can gain from everyone here. :-D
  17. Hi everyone. First I'd like to briefly introduce myself - I've been reading this site for three years now and finally decided to get an account. I'm an urban junkie and will admit I'm completely obsessed with Cleveland. I also work for a large CM firm in town and am active in the construction industry here in CLE. As far as the Westin goes, I know someone heavily involved in this project and he stated that Optima (the developer) stopped the project because they were not comfortable using money from the Cleveland International Fund. I asked him if he thought the project would go under and he said no. Optima has apparently told the banks that they will guarantee the loan, and as stated above, there are other parties who have too much into the project to pull out
