No responses to my July 24, post to search Trolleybus UK. A lot of information. I would like to see a pro or con discussion of why we can or can not demonstrate a feeder line or two to the rapid.

Dream time. Do a scaled back version, maybe one or two heavy lines using the new tech trolley buses, that feed the Rapid lines, not compete with them. Anyone have any ideas which ones could work?

Do a simple search: Trolley bus UK. Latest Trolley bus information. Latest vehicles, news on new overhead technology. Answers a lot of objections. Can we use this in Cleveland,Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron for a Rapid Electric Trolley bus network? Why couldn't wind, solar, or hydroelectric energy be used to power electric bus and rail transit?

I forgot to add that the Trolley busses are supposed to be used as Feeders to the main line Rapids.(Red,Green and Blue lines, and future commuter rail). Heavily used all day with frequent service, but not enough for streetcar or light rail. They can be used on narrow streets.
  5. Could the "New Tech Electric Trolley busses be used in Cleveland again? The Seattle Trolley Bus replacement discussions prompted me to look at the New Trolley busses. They don't have to tied to the overhead wires anymore. They can use batteries. They are supposed to be getting better and stronger. That would let them go off the wire for short distances, like emergencies and detours. Also, a small diesel engine to run the electric motors.(Seattle had Duel-mode ones that were used in the trolley tunnel). China is experimenting with capacitors( I am not sure about that one) that can eliminate some overhead wires.Goggle works to find information and pictures of the new trolley busses. Let us know if you have any thoughts.
  6. Good work on connecting routes and maps.
  7. I Goggled "Seattle Rapid trolley bus network". There is a lot to read pro and con.
  8. I happened to find "Hybrid Funiculars", the Innsbruck Hungerburgbohn. Do a search for this. Could this be something for Cincinatti.
  9. We need this type of Intercity bus partnership now in Ohio. Get this up and running before the 3C gets running. People can get used to taking these feeder type buses to the trains. Some, have not been able to get to where they want to go with the recent cutbacks by Grayhound and others. When the trains begin, the routes can change where needed.
  10. If the former GM/Delphi plant is the chosen spot for the new Casino:Will there be COTA nearby? Will the 3C service be nearby VS the downtown site? Will any planned light rail or streetcar lines be close by?
  11. :? Is it time for Niles-Trumbull Transit to go into it's first Fixed Route service? Since WRTA eliminated the Warren-Youngstown route, thinking out loud, could NTT, restart the route or routes? Maybe with some changes, better promotion, and using the smaller buses to start. The buses should be specially painted. Must use Trumbull county colors. (I don't know what they are) Get the 3 County Commissioners to agree to help fund, and or get sponsors to help with the costs. Naming rights on buses, schedules, shelters, etc. They would offer connections to the new Liberty Walmart area, Giant Eagle(connection with WRTA Belmont) and Peak Express service to Youngstown. ( No passenger pick up into Youngstown. Discharge only. From Youngstown, pick up only.)
  12. It's coming back to me. It was the Broadway/Three Rivers. I used to enjoy eating breakfast in the dinner. Before you know it, Pittsburgh was coming up. Time to get off. Thank you for moving the cob webs around.
  13. Should a Lordstown stop be substituted for Warren? How close is Newton Falls from the rail line? What happened to the New Castle stop? I remember, I took morning train from Youngstown. I can't remember which train it was. Rochester had a nice stop. They stopped for a while. Was that the old PRR ? Rochester/ Beaver/ Monaca seemed to be in the middle of the population. Seem like a good stop for going East and West.
  14. How can I print your map?
  15. I am going to research E-mail addresses for each Trumbull county commissioner. I am going to keep it handy. I will probably be the only one. I read a post dealing with Cleveland RTA making an arrangement to get some circulars running again. I understand RTA is providing the equipment and the city, (maybe Lakewood ?) is paying for the driver. Maybe something could be worked out. It can't hurt to try. WRTA has plenty of available equipment?
  16. Check out funiculars. Angels Flight funicular in LA. There are many types. Some slow. Some fast. Maybe you can find some ideas for Cincinatti.
  17. I thought WRTA was supposed to be a Trumbull, Mahoning, and even Columbiana county transit authority? Since they got the Mahoning sales tax, the Valley Youngstown, Niles, Warren route was dropped. It was steadly picking up passengers. It wasn't perfect. Could have been better done.
  18. :-oThis seems like an interesting idea.
  19. :?Thank you for the map. I am going to show some people, at a social agency, who have to find people jobs. Their biggest problem is getting them reliable public transportation. These is none except limited cab service.

There is a NS crossing that everyone has to cross to get to the government installation. Workers have their cars. Trucks come in and out. I try to get there around 7:30AM. Today, NS really upset me. There was one truck in front of me. The train was crossing. It's usually a long coal train, going to the Servistal steel. The tuck was all the room before the tracks. I had to stay on the main road. I don't like to do that. It's very fast with cars and trucks taking a short cut from Niles to Warren. They cut around you. I watch to see if they are going to slow down. There is a dangerous bend. I was stuck on the road for about 15 minutes. The trucker was getting a little impatient. There was another truck in back of me going into government place. I don't know how long the train was before I got there. Is there a certain time limit that NS can disrupt the crossing. It is the only way in or out. What about emergency situations?
  21. Reply 65, and 66 mentions BRT for Akron Metro RTA thread. I think if I understand this,it will start from the Summit Mall, West Market,Downtown to the East. Where will it go out East? Is there any other possible routes that might go North or South? Good transfer possibilities.
  22. :?What vehicle could be used on Ohio's secondary passenger routes.
  23. I was looking around and found NCTD's(North County Transit District,San Diego) Sprinter,DMU, from Oceanside, San Marccos and Escondido. It looked pretty good. How could this be used in Ohio? Are these the type of cars that can be hooked on to a regular Amtrak type train, and then be separated to go on to secondary cities
  24. :?There seems to be a communication problem between WRTA, Niles and Warren. The Youngstown to Warren route that was dropped. It was never restarted. The passenger numbers were going up. I did happen to be at Goodwill's main store, plant and office on Belmont in Youngstown. I did see about 5 small vehicles(most the new ones) waiting for Goodwill clients getting off work at 3 PM. I didn't see how many went to each small bus. There was a regular big bus that always comes in at least 1 or two minutes before the people get off work. I don't know if any people could use it. Nobody gets on. I am not a person who likes big buses with nobody in them.
  25. WRTA is supposed to be a multi-county transit authority. It is supposed to include Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana county(they don't serve Columbiana). Trumbull service was cut between Kent State University,Warren, Niles,Girard, and Youngstown. It was never brought back when the other Saturday and Nite service returned. They never mention the Trumbull county service. The numbers were coming up, even though WRTA cut service. It needs to be refined to serve more people.
