  1. Ugh... I'm getting sick of all these conversions. Please build new buildings or rehab old empty buildings. Too many empty parking lots and abandoned buildings still exist. Edit: Not sure what happened. This was supposed to be a comment on 75 public square.
  2. It's well documented that traffic will be limited to buses so no concerns there... In general (not exclusive to this forum), the questions posed about bus traffic insinuate that there will be a high speed steel death trap cutting through a peaceful park... Has no one crossed a street before? The PD comments about 6 and 9 year old children being flattened by buses are laughable. #SMH
  3. Last season, the Cleveland Browns footbridge was partially closed all season (the east bridge). Does anyone know why this bridge was closed and if there is a plan to give it a makeover? Definitely needs a fresh coat of paint.
  4. Does anyone know the status of the building directly to the right? It will be so great to see that block redeveloped. If only we could get an update on the May Co. building and the crappy grouping across from the May Co. building... I know this group was very against the proposed plan, but something is better than nothing. Fingers crossed for phase II of the casino. Redeveloping those six buildings, adding a casino and redesigning Public Square would certainly add a lot of life to that area.
  5. Not sure if this was previously mentioned, but they recently repainted the black part of the garage around the first video board. It is a vast improvement.
  6. Thank you! Doesn't look like they've done anything to clean up the facade. Call me crazy but I liked the old Clevelander look.
  7. If only you had gotten the Clevelander in that photo... In the Gateway thread I posted a question about scaffolding out front of the Clevelander. When you were taking those great pictures did you happen to see if they were refinishing the exterior? Thanks!
  8. A couple weeks ago I walked past the Clevelander and noticed a bunch of scaffolding in front of the building. Has anyone walked past the building lately? Have they finally cleaned up the facade?
  9. BREAKING NEWS! This just in, the Cleveland Browns brass to meet with City Council and the City Planning Board to discuss potential sites for Johnny Football statues... Proposed sites include Playhouse Square, the top of the At&t building, Public Square and the Mall C.
  10. Three new plans designed to update specific neighborhoods on the East and West sides of Cleveland aren’t about to become reality overnight. But by winning unanimous approval on Friday from the city’s planning commission, all three visions gained an important measure of validation and took a step toward realization. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2014/05/three_new_neighborhood_plans_a.html#incart_river_default
  11. No current plans to change the signage.
  12. Any updates on when this redesign may occur?
  13. I think it is a great proposal that will add a lot of life to a very dead stretch of land.
  14. Man this thread is brutal on this building... I don't think it is that bad.
  15. Ahhh, I havnt been out by the airport in a while, but had heard about the garage being taken down. Just figured that it was the whole garage. Thanks jfristik. No worries! It was very confusing the way it was reported. There were actually two big parking garages. The much older, structurally unstable parking garage was farther east of the newer parking garage. The two were connected by sky bridge, which the last time I saw still stands as a bridge to nowhere. The newer garage that was not demolished also had mini LED displays installed over every parking space that light up red when occuppied and green when vacant. It is a nice addition that makes finding a parking spot much easier.
  16. That portion of the garage was never torn down...
  17. I love this plan! Let's just hope it becomes a reality... Any additional details related to funding or when work would begin? Is this conceptual or actively being discussed by city officials?
  18. It's a wonderful idea. It's an awful location. If I am interpreting KJP's comments correctly, the point is that high density housing and entertainment development should be placed closer to mass transportation in Cleveland. Not parking lots, urban farms and storage facilities... You want to develop around the transit hubs so that hundreds (if not thousands) of people have no more than a 5-10 minute walk from their living/dining/etc. to the transit system.
  19. Two thoughts: 1. I love the Westin plan, with the exception of the block closest to Publice Square. Call it a pipe dream, but this piece of land is prime real estate for an eventual office tower. While I doubt that it will ever house a structure taller than the Key Tower, imagine a 40 story building there 20-30 years down the road... It is the missing piece in our skyline and I have no problem touching that one small parking lot in the meantime. As for the other lots, develop them ASAP. 2. DO NOT PUT A TRANSIT CENTER THERE. It would kill any upscale, new housing and restaurant development.
  20. The name of the demolished building escapes me, but does anyone know the plan for the empty space between the casino's parking garage? Are they just going to extend the garage or will it remain vacant?
  21. I totally agree! The darker color blended in better. In no way am I advocating a dirty building, but I think the clean concrete is a stark contrast. The building now has more pop and less subtlety...
  22. The only phase of the casino... Phase II is not happening any time soon. Casino revenue continues to nosedive in Ohio.
  23. Per the Campus District pdf ( http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2011/12022011/2011-08-15CampusDistrictTLCI_FINALl.pdf?bcsi_scan_0f1700ec298a9f1d=0&bcsi_scan_filename=2011-08-15CampusDistrictTLCI_FINALl.pdf ), the Gateway District TLCI is referenced (see page 32). Is there a seperate presentation for these improvements? The images are very small but look promising.
  24. Does anyone know what is going on with the At&t building and The Clevelander?
  25. While your proposal appears to be well thought out, I'd like to point out the fact that there is no real incentive for the Port to spend all that money to move.. Cleveland has more empty lots downtown than it knows what to do with. It would be completely different if we had run out of viable options for development downtown and the city coffers were overflowing with money. However, that is not the case. Furthermore, in my opinion pumping a ton of development into that area would only further disjoint the walkability of downtown. If any area deserves serious attention it is the no-mans land of parking lots between the Warehouse District and Public Square. I agree that the lakefront is very poorly utilized. Hopefully, developing the area north of First Energy Stadium will be the first step in the right direction.
