Tale of Two Cities: Youngstown-Akron
That's one thing Akron has done and continues to do well... agressively seek out economic development opportunities. I agree YtownNews, it would be nice to see more cooperation amoung NE Ohio's cities; collectively, NE Ohio is a great region IMO and a more regional approach to economic development could really boost the region as a whole.

which one of these towers would you like in downtown Cleveland
I voted for tower #1. Though I really like #3, I think tower #1 would fit in better with the rest of the Cleveland skyline.

Cuyahoga Falls: Development and News
^ Agreed, the shopping center looks pretty depressed, especially compared to the recent street upgrades on State Rd. I remember going there when I was a kid and it was still a somewhat nice plaza; it's definantly seen brighter days.

What Cleveland suburbs have the best downtowns?
I haven't seen Willoughby's, but I've heard it's very nice. I absolutely love Medina's downtown, it's like taking a trip back in time, especially around the holiday season. ^ Grrrrrrrr.... (snarling and teeth clashing :whip:)

Suburbanites: what would draw you downtown?
I honestly can't think of areas in Shaker Hts I would term as being 'bad'. I guess everyone has their own opinions, but I find it hard to believe that anyone would think of Shaker as being bad or dangerous. IMO, I think Shaker is still one of the all around best suburbs in Greater Cleveland.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Wow KJP... awesome work. Trust me, I'm on my hands and knees right now praying that they look at your plan with the exact same enthusiasm it has created here on this forum. I must admit, I share the same fears as mrnyc with regard to BRT; we can only hope that they are able to see the increased opportunity for development with an investment in the existing Rapid system. Again though, great work!!!

Suburbanites: what would draw you downtown?
Bingo... If I didn't have kids, I wouldn't hesitate to live in the heart of the city. Unfortunately, because of the state of many inner city schools, the suburbs are the obvious choice for many. We're looking to move to the Cleveland area within the next year or year and a half; and though I would love to live in the city proper, schools are a big concern for us. I know there are other options such as charter or private schools, but I'm not totally sold on charter schools yet and as tight as our budget is right now, private schools are out of the question. For this reason, we will more than likely end up residing in either Shaker or Cleveland Hts (I can't go out any further than that). As for the topic of the thread, I live within the Akron city limits, although barely; I can take a short walk in the woods next to my place and be in Cuyahoga Falls. Things that draw me downtown are usually special events such as shows, outdoor concerts and festivals, baseball games, etc... Though I have a couple of libraries in my immediate vicinity, I took my son to the main library downtown a couple of times last summer. Since he isn't exposed to downtown like I was as a kid (I practically grew up downtown; hence my eternal love of urbanism), I try to get him down there every once in a while so he can get a real taste of the city. He's really into busses right now, so I think we'll ride the bus downtown a few times in the future to make trips to the library (he's only 3; I know it's sad, I'm already trying to turn him into a little urbanist).

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Here's an update from the 2/22/2006 Beacon Journal... Usher sighting For the first time all season, Cavs part-owner and recording artist Usher Raymond IV attended the game and sat at center court. Usher and the Cavs ownership group had not been on good terms for what insiders said was Usher's failure to fulfill his investment agreement. It is unclear if his appearance was a sign of mending fences. Unlike the games he attended last season, Usher was not acknowledged on the video board, and the season-long ban on his music was not lifted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/13931317.htm

Does any city in Ohio have a hospital Downtown?
Akron Children's Hospital I would consider as being downtown; it's located behind Canal Park Stadium. Akron General is not far from there on the fringe of downtown. St. Thomas is just north of downtown Akron and Akron City Hospital is to the east just on the other side of the U of A which borders downtown.

Sister Site: clevelandskyscrapers.com Updates!
MayDay, do you know when that Masonic Memorial Building was proposed to be built? I've never seen that before; that would've been nice to have another older prominent skyscraper in the skyline.

Your Favorite current O-H-I-O musicians
Wow, I'm learning some things... I didn't even know L.A. Reid was from Ohio. That would be interesting if he started making Cincy more of full time residence; that make two (Nick Lachey being the other) recently divorced celebs coming home to the Nati.
