Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
Amen! Was it someone from here who went and kicked some pessimistic cleveland.com butt about the Hotel Indigo announcement? The first two comments on the blog thingy made me happy :). ^ I second that amen. The energy surrounding all these developments is contagious. I'm tired of trying to argue the Cleve's good merits to people; I think I'll just sit back and let them eventually get infected by the positive buzz in the air. Go Cleve!!

Akron: Random Development and News
Nice to hear something is being done with this block, it looks pretty dreadful. I'm glad they are preserving these buildings; I know a few years ago there was talk of demolishing everything from the Civic up to Bowery for a new development that has since never made it off the blueprints.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^ Wouldn't that be a shocking if that's the case  Typical Cleveland politics.

Officials discuss Allegheny Co., Pittsburgh merger
^ Same here in the Cleveland area. Though I'd like to see some consilidation of city-county government hear, political egos will likely make this unlikely in the near future. I do hope that I'm wrong, however. But even if we do not see a true consolidation of gov's, I hope momentum continues towards more of a regionalism mentality rather than the every municipaty for themselves mentality present today.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I didn't like the Chester locale when I first heard it; but, the more I think about it, it's starting to grow on me a little more. I travel this area quite often and would love to see some development between downtown and UC, and E 55th and Chester is pretty much the center point between the two. I still prefer a downtown site; however, I'm not totally opposed to a Midtown location.

The Future of America and Its Cities
^ I totally feel you here. I was talking to someone one on the phone recently and they were griping about how Bush needs to do something and we need to tap into additional oil reserves and basically do whatever's necessary to get more oil to get lower prices. After going on, he thought I'd hung up because I was so silent; I couldn't say anything... I couldn't agree less with him and I knew it would be fruitless to argue my point. I can only hope that people begin to actually look more at conserving fuel and other resources, taking public trans when applicable, making less trips to here and there, walking more to get to places when applicable, and so on and so on. We're still a while away from having true, abundent, and sensible solutions for moving away from oil as a primary fuel source; but in the meantime, we can take steps to conserve what we have instead of continuing to attempt to maintain our same lifestyles which are not sustainable in the long run.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
^Welcome! Appreciate the C-town love; I was at that Browns game as well, great game! Loved the article. Seems that the secret's getting out about how great our fair city is.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
In retirement, she and her husband had hoped to enjoy simple pleasures: watching people pass by and planting flowers around their neatly kept home. But the violence in the neighborhood makes that impossible. "You pay for your home. You work hard. You retire, and you want to enjoy, just come out on your porch and ... wait for the summertime to come," she said, shaking her head. ^Makes me think of my wife's grandmother. Her neighborhood (Mt. Pleasant) isn't nearly as rough as the area described in the article, but it's quickly sliding downward. It's sad when you think of those who have been in the neighborhood and raised their families there having to watch what's become of them in recent years.

Cleveland in the 80's revisited
 I'm laughing just thinking about that scene. I heard an audio of that scene, edited of course, on the radio the other day; none the less still funny as hell! Great old pics of Cleveland.

Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
I was just in that area a couple of weeks ago looking at the stadium site and didn't even notice that they had started on Spicer Village. I noticed they cleared the South Stadium Square block on Main St. downtown as well. A lot going on around the UofA and downtown, great to see!

Wow... great pics. Don't see a whole lot pics of Milwaukee here or on other sites. I'm always surprised when I see pics of the city, may have to make a trip up north next time I'm in Chicago.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
^ Couldn't agree more. I was just thinking the other day that there seemed to be a lot of Subways on my end of town. If that many can be concentrated just within a few miles of my house, it seems logical that we have the most of any metro. mmm.... now I'm craving a footlong club

The Detroitification of Dayton?
Wow... great presentation Jeffery. I knew Dayton has been really struggling, but didn't realize it was to that extent. That's scary to think that abandonement has engulfed such a large swath of the city.

Akron: Bridgestone Firestone Technical Center
Just when we exhaled after Goodyear decided to stay, Bridgeston/Firestone is now looking to possibly leave town. Hope the city, county, and state can pull another deal to keep these jobs in Akron.

East Cleveland - the other side of a suburban ghetto (broadband recommended)
I was headed to the Windermere station last week and was thinking the same thing. Some of those buildings look beautiful, though I'm sure more than a few are beyond salvaging.

East Cleveland - the other side of a suburban ghetto (broadband recommended)
Actually, parts of Forest Hills weren't developed till the post-war years. Many of the post-WWII homes are original to the area; some are hideous, some fit in nicely. I had heard of Forest Hills and when I moved to Cleveland Hts I made sure to make a trip over to that neighborhood. What stunningly gorgeous homes and tree lined streets. Hearing so much negativity about East Cleveland, I couldn't believe it was the same city. Then after a few turns, I was behind Shaw High and back onto Euclid Ave and the familiar depressing EC landscape.
