  1. This is a significant loss for downtown because it will take a while for Cleveland backfill the loss. It will happen, but it sets progress back (especially in the new work from home times). The same happens in other cities, but our region seems to just be moving parts around. Brooklyn will be happy but for a vibrant core and region, the area needs organic growth and companies to relocate to Cleveland.
  2. HtsGuy - It makes a great deal of sense for Progressive to move downtown especially with them reducing and selling office space lately. My sense is that in some way they are looking at what Sherwin Williams is doing in the center city. It would be nice to see another national brand on top of a new building downtown.
  3. Trott's thinking is what will keep Cleveland in the stone ages! The same thinking that said no building could be taller than the Terminal Tower and look what happened to the BP Building. Bridgeworks is is hardly too tall. Just silly!
  4. Next time there is a debate wether Uptown has been a success, be sure to share the before and after pics take above!
  5. The Plain Dealer location makes a lot of sense.
  6. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/08/craig-hassall-playhouse-squares-incoming-new-president-and-ceo-sees-big-room-for-growth-in-attendance-development.html What a breath of fresh air! This guy is exactly the type of leader PHS needs. PHS has so much more potential and should be attracting more visitors from surrounding states let alone across Ohio.
  7. I don't see the NFL challenging given the players will expose the NFL owners and their shortcomings. I'm certain Bob Kraft does not want to relive his little massage secret!
  8. The neighboring City Club building looks as dirty as it gets. It really needs to be spruced up bad!
  9. In his time in Cleveland, Baker seemed to be a bit above average. With that said, right now this appears to be an overall bad deal for the browns. To give up a hight pick (in Baker) for nothing plus to get QB that enjoys massages (and I really like Watson the QB) seems questionable. I hope this works well for the Browns.
  10. It depends if you really believe there are 20K living downtown. The census has downtown at above 12k. Given the lack of pedestrian foot traffic, I tend to believe 12K living downtown. This will help get us closer to 20k.
  11. KJP - I was referring to this statement. Even with apartments rising at what seems a breakneck pace for Northeast Ohio, Yardi Matrix reports construction at less than 4% of total inventory downtown and below 2% of the region's inventory. So, the amount of development in the region remains extremely low compared with most of the country. That's why the mantra for Michael Deemer, president and CEO of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, remains to keep building residentially downtown.
  12. The question that I have (in the Crains article) is even with growth, why does Cleveland always seem to fall behind the state average and the national average. I would be more impressed with the article if Cleveland was leading the region or state, or at the national average, but it is lagging behind.
  13. If they can get a few more tenets, it may actually work.
  14. This area has been so undeveloped for so long. To have the ability and access to walk out your apartment to the beautiful Cleveland Museum of Art and gorgeous Wade lagoon is such a selling point. This area has even more potential and it will be fascinating to see the growth continue.
  15. I would not consider Uptown a failure, but it needs a spark. I find there to be something about the Midwest where people don't seem to walk and enjoy the assets of an urban area (generally speaking). Clevelanders come out for events like a Cavs game or at night to a bar or restaurant. In the northeast, people seem to be more active such as laying out on lawn an a beautiful day or jogging, biking. The lawn on top of the convention center is always empty and there should be residents using it, throwing the frisbee, football, picnicking. They say there are 20k living downtown, but it still looks and still feels like a ghost town, especially on the weekends. My point is foot traffic would do wonders for Uptown and the new apartments may help if people actually walked outside to do things other than to get in their car.
  16. Very poorly written release. Take the high road.
  17. I like her work. If done right, will be an improvement over that blank wall.
  18. This may cost the Browns one on their two prized running backs.
  19. The really should consider renaming the museum.
  20. I always look forward to reading Dear Annie! Some really good stuff.
  21. They won't be happy until they can police themselves. I forgot, they already do!
  22. After watching that game, I'm convinced the Browns are closer than we think.
  23. Seriously....the guy has a more modern landing page up in only a few weeks. Where is that guy that kept saying Bibb would take Cleveland into the gutter? https://mayor.clevelandohio.gov/#tracker-section
  24. It's a smart move by Gilbert to bring local at first. He is testing the market.
  25. Could you imagine Frank Jackson taking accountability like this? So refreshing!
