  1. ^ Is there anything that can be done to knock some sense into the new administration before they ruin the layout of the campus?
  2. They better not screw this up like they screwed up the CIMP. For a while, CSU was on a roll with the Euclid Commons, Julka Hall, the administration center, and the additions onto the law building and rec center that brought them closer to the sidewalks. Now, the administration seems to be back in the anti-urban mindset.
  3. I am so pumped for that boardwalk
  4. The construction schedule estimated that the building would be topping off in September (I only remember because it was estimated to top off on my birthday). So, surely they're still going to be adding some height in the next two months.
  5. Those people living in the ranch homes on the north side of Lake need to realize that *they* are the ones that are out of place, not the townhouses. Just one block west there are plenty of apartment/condo buildings (plus all the density of the Gold Coast). There are even plenty of apartment/condo buildings on Lake to the east as well. I really wish we could just raze that whole block (Lake/W. 115/Edgewater/W. 117) and start over.
  6. ^ 327 may be referring to the previous plans which locals opposed. Locals pushed back hard against repurposing the church into a rock-climbing gym because they didn't want a commercial use for that particular location. I even recall some push-back on the townhomes because they created "too much density." I'm sure these comments were just coming from the residents of the single-family ranch homes on Lake which should have never been built in the first place.
  7. ^ That's awesome if they are changing the name back to Hotel Cleveland.
  8. ^ My guess is One Cleveland Center.
  9. Last I heard, Asiatown Center was having some financial issues. I'm glad to see they're doing okay (at least this article seems to imply that). To anyone who has never visited this place: DO IT! It's probably the best place to shop for authentic ethnic groceries, and there are plenty of great Asian restaurants and art studios as well. One of the hidden gems of Cleveland in my opinion.
  10. I do wonder if they'll ever feel pressured to move some of their offices into (or close to) the city. Younger generations simply don't like working in campuses way out in the boonies, and it's a trend that doesn't show any sign of reversing. But on the other hand, I know they are very tied to Orville, and the town pretty much entirely depends on them. I'd imagine they'd always keep their HQ there, but maybe they'd be willing to move some other offices into Cleveland.
  11. Wait, what does this mean? Is there going to be new construction in the warehouse district??
  12. Think of how much cooler that view from the shoreway will be with the NuCLEus tower and the tower above the 515 Euclid garage!
  13. All the one-story restaurant buildings are lame and forgettable (especially Flipside). I guess I can forgive that though, since I'm really liking how the apartment building is turning out. That Flats East Bank sign is going to become an iconic Cleveland symbol.
  14. Wasn't the current Uptown area once referred to as Doan's Corners? Or am I just making that up? I can't remember where I heard that, but it sounds right.
  15. ^ Agreed. I hope someone also develops that smaller strip of land north of the One Cleveland Center garage, and south of St. Clair.
  16. ^ Interesting. Looks like Payscape is based in Atlanta, GA and has offices all across the country. Also, according to Google, there is a branch in Wickliffe. So, I'm assuming that they're moving their Wickliffe branch to this location? If so, yay for another company moving from the suburbs to the city! Where exactly is the new office?
  17. Ohh I see, so it's just a renovation/facelift of the existing building. I'm glad they're reusing an old building - even one that isn't particularly attractive.
  18. ^ Where on campus are they planning to build that?
  19. ^ The instability of the land pretty much makes any other kind of development impossible there. Regardless, it's a great place for a park. It'll open up some really good views for the buildings on the west side of W. 25. Honestly, if I were Snavely, I'd plan a phase 2 with a high-rise on that small parking lot just south of Massimo Da Milano.
  20. ^ Here's what I know: They are growing like a weed, and plan to at least double in size within the next 3-5 years. If I were to guess, I'd think they're looking for 25,000 - 30,000 sq. ft. Maybe even more.
  21. The greenspace in the back will probably be utilized, but I doubt people will make use of the pointless front yard facing Euclid. They could have had even more usable greenspace in the back if they simply moved this building up to the street, but apparently CSU doesn't actually understand urban design...
  22. Yeah I'm not impressed at all by the photos. Oh well... it's still an improvement on what was there before, and hopefully this will spur some more development in the surrounding blocks where it is sorely needed.
  23. I actually don't mind the design. I tend to prefer simpler red-bricked town homes over flashy modern ones. I only wish they were less staggered, and created more of a flat street wall. A smaller setback would be nice too.
  24. Interesting that there are two different proposed layouts for the street-level tenant spaces. The only difference is the placement of the small grocery (which, rumor has it, will be a similar concept to The Grocery on Lorain Rd). I wonder which is correct.
  25. I do think certain styles of architecture hold up better than others. What matters more, though, is the quality of the design by itself (regardless of the style). For example, I think the Breuer Tower ("The 9") holds up pretty well as a nice example of brutalism that also respects its surroundings. The Justice Center... not so much. My criticism of the cafe isn't necessarily with the design - it's with the placement of the building. I hate that the back of the building faces the Tower City entry. The art wall could possibly resolve that issue, if it's done well.
