  1. ^ I don't think that rendering is at all reflective of the current plan. I wish it was though. That rendering is much denser, and has a nice street grid.
  2. I know it won't, but it's still a disgrace. CSU has spent the last few years making pretty good urban planning decisions. Additions onto Cleveland-Marshall, the Chester side of the main classroom building, the recreation center addition.... all built closer to the sidewalks. And in addition, the Jolka, Euclid Commons, Langston, etc. were all built densely and close to the sidewalk. And then they suddenly come out with this crap? Not only does it have a completely useless and wasteful yard, but the design is also ugly and boring. This is Euclid Avenue. There need to be higher standards.
  3. I can't believe CSU actually think that's acceptable. Who is going to want go to Maxine Goodman Levin when CSU is approval horrible anti-urban stuff like this?
  4. I used to always walk up E. 18th on my way to my summer internship at CSU, and I always thought how desperately it needed to be spruced up. This building will help a lot. However, I think it's unacceptable to tear down that brick building.
  5. ^ Keep in mind inflation and the fact that that bridge was built with cheap materials, with the intention of it lasting for only a small amount of time. So, building a bridge like that would be MUCH more expensive now. I would love something that continued the mall over the tracks, in a certain way. I really like this proposal: http://clevelandcompetition.com/portfolio/2009-lakefront-station-09377/
  6. ^ Those designs are awesome, though obviously not very feasible. But still, we need to do better than that ugly walkway.
  7. Not great, but not horrible either. I guess I'm okay with it.
  8. When are they EVER going to remove that piece of cloth from the top of the building across from the Hanna, on Euclid? (I'm sorry, I have no idea what that building's name is)
  9. Words can't even begin to describe my excitement for this project.
  10. ^ Hahah... if I don't laugh, I'll cry... This really is very disappointing. I thought Cleveland State was finally beginning to understand the importance of density (Euclid Commons, Julka Hall, Langston Apartments, etc.). I'm still hoping we can make a change here. According to the CSU website, President Berkman's contact is Ms. Shane Connor Phone: 216.687.3544 [email protected] You know what to do, guys. And don't be afraid to let Pelli Clarke Pelli know what you think of their design :)
  11. Everyone, write to the President of CSU and the appropriate councilperson. Maybe something can be done to change this awful and ugly plan.
  12. It doesn't need to be an "urban density project" but the least they can do is site it on Euclid! This is a terrible plan. I hope it doesn't go through.
  13. I love that there are plans to include a school. If done right, this could be a helluva neighborhood. I agree with Pugu about the film studio, though. That could go anywhere, considering all the large vacant lots in Cleveland. We shouldn't waste the lakefront on that. I'm not sure how large film studios usually are, but maybe they can finally work on developing the land on Scranton Peninsula.
  14. Will the apartments only be facing Public Square, or are they also going to be facing Prospect? If so, that's awesome! That side of the building has needed renovating for a long time.
  15. I really hope they are able to continue with more phases eventually. I really like the design and the density of this project. It's so sad, driving past the condos to see the building still sits only halfway finished.
  16. Wow, it's amazing how much a simple power-washing can improve the facade of a building. I am so stoked for this project to be finished.
  17. Wow! And to think that building used to be such an eyesore.
  18. ^^ The costs would definitely be cheaper than the E. 55th idea they were throwing around years ago. Plus, there is already rail access to that area. And the Army Corps of Engineers needs a place to dump their dredged silt from the river anyway, so they might as well build some reclaimed land that's useful. Why not just dictate that all dirt from city and county construction projects have to be dumped there as well? That would certainly fill it up quicker.
  19. ^ I hope so. That link that freethink posted showed 3 possible designs that all interacted with the street much better than that awful design.
  20. ^^ I think that lakefront plan was largely abandoned. I do really like the plans to move the port to that extension on Whiskey Island, and expanding Edgewater Park. But that's probably not very feasible...
  21. That's awesome! If we get a Whole Foods and Heinens downtown, I will strongly consider moving there.
  22. ^ WOW! I'm not sure how feasible that is, but I really hope that happens!
  23. ^ Yeah, the Huntington Building has a gorgeous lobby. Hopefully that will help attract some tenants.
  24. This is a rendering of the original plan (a train station was supposed to be built at the northern end of the mall) The plan didn't call for any tall buildings (but this was also before skyscrapers really existed). Building an actual neo-classical building might be expensive, but it's possible to build a postmodern design influenced by the neo-classical style.
  25. I guess I'm just skeptical about a very modern design because of how underwhelming CooperCarry's portfolio is. I'd love to be surprised though!
