  1. If that's the case, imagine what would have happened to the Columbia building if it wasn't torn down... One of the reasons this is my favorite street downtown!
  2. Wow, that car is destroyed! Very fortunate no one was walking past during that time! Was it very windy down there today?
  3. ^ So the light blue path is not going to loop all the way around the Scranton Peninsula? I'm excited to check out these new paths in the coming months!
  4. From the article: "It’s safe to say that it’s now one of the nicest markets in the world." I think we would all agree!
  5. Michelle says the Fifth Third Center opened in 1991. Rachel says 1992. Which is it? :wtf:

  8. Why? Would it be in the line of sight with the batter and distracting?
  9. Cleveland Rowing Foundation plans to sell, buy land in the Flats as recreation hub grows CLEVELAND, Ohio - A pair of land deals in the Flats will give the Cleveland Metroparks more wiggle room at Rivergate Park and open up riverfront expansion prospects for the Cleveland Rowing Foundation. The nonprofit rowing foundation announced Thursday that it plans to sell 1.1 acres at Rivergate, on the east bank of the Flats, to the Metroparks. The parks group's board is scheduled to vote on the purchase at its next meeting, April 16. Shedding the parcel, a paved piece of land set back from the river, won't hamper the rowing foundation's growth plans. Foundation Executive Director Kirk Lang said the Metroparks need the property more, to complement the parks group's investments at Rivergate and Merwin's Wharf, a waterfront restaurant that opened on Merwin Avenue last year. 11. Haha, nice try Michelle. April Fools is tomorrow!! This project can't actually be starting... Can it? Kidding aside, I think this is a sign of good things to come! "The board also unanimously elected Chris Ronayne, the president of University Circle Inc., as its new chairman, who will serve a two-year term."
  12. Something like that. But what makes this different is that it is a major redesign of the street layout involving the square. And that hasn't been done in a century or more. That would be an interesting research effort. When was the last time the streets in the square were widened, or had their intersection curbs changed for bigger vehicles/streetcars, or when were the streets added through the square? I seem to recall old paintings from the early 1800s that the square didn't have any streets running through them. If so, this is a once-in-a-200-year change. I recall reading that the square always had Superior and Ontario running through it, but that it was fenced off for like 10-15 years in the mid-1800s. I'll try to look for a source on that. Just yesterday, I was looking at a friend's copy of the September/October 1993 issue of Timeline Magazine. There was an actual photograph of Public Square from 1865! I'm pretty sure it showed the square as an actual square, with no cross streets, and had a fountain in the middle. I was going to take a picture of it but couldn't get it to turn out. I can't find a picture of it online but I did find that you can buy the magazine for $5.00 to check it out! http://www.ohiohistorystore.com/Timeline-Magazine-105-September-October-1993-P7299.aspx I would bet that KJP has a copy of this magazine stored under his bed or something though. So maybe he can dig it up lol OK, so here is what I was talking about. Public Square as a square in 1859!
  13. Here is a shot of the horizontal lines on the Ontario side. Not as defined as the rendering but I snapped this while stopped at the light.
  14. We got a baby bump!! :-P Before After

  17. Heritage Hall, home to downtown Cleveland YMCA, set for sale to Texas-based buyer (photos) CLEVELAND, Ohio - A student-housing investor based in Houston expects to buy Heritage Hall, the longtime home of the city's central YMCA. Cleveland State University and representatives of the YMCA of Greater Cleveland confirmed that the historic complex, at 2200 Prospect Ave., is set for a sale to Asset Plus Companies, Inc. of Texas. The deal is scheduled to close April 1. An ownership change for the century-old brick building, which includes roughly 140 dorm rooms, comes amid heightened investor interest in properties near CSU. Out-of-town developers are planning a private student-housing project at East 18th Street and Euclid Avenue, where the former Jewish Federation of Cleveland headquarters sits empty. And a Columbus group recently bought the empty City Blue building on Prospect, near the Wolstein Center, for an apartment project. 18. Finally. That stretch of Ontario could use some help. Too bad the casino side doesn't have any storefronts.
  19. Looks like the video has been pulled. I did see at least one bench on the bridge. Hopefully they can figure out a way to add a few more.
  20. 55 Public Square potentially could become apartments... Loan for 55 Public Square is sold for $12 million loss ..."The vacancy level also makes the building a candidate for potential conversion to apartments. As it is more than 50 years old, 55 Public Square is old enough to be eligible for federal and state historic preservation tax credits that have been crucial to the rise of residential living downtown, according to Tom Yablonsky, executive vice president of Downtown Cleveland Alliance. Yablonsky said it might qualify for historic tax credits as a midcentury modern office building, but winning such a designation requires detailed studies. Residences at 1717, which was converted to apartments from offices at 1717 E. Ninth St. in a project using tax credits, went up in 1959. The building adjoining 55 Public Square — the 75 Public Square office building — was purchased this year by an affiliate of Valley View-based Millennia Properties Co. for future conversion to apartments." http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150322/SUB1/303229988/loan-for-55-public-square-is-sold-for-12-million-loss
  21. That will be amazing! Thank you!!
  22. The "Sphere" sounds like a very strange name for an apartment building. "Hey, where do you live?" "The Sphere!" "OK, bubble boy......"
  23. Going to look awesome with the signage on top!!
