Cleveland Browns Discussion
I believe Urban is retired from coaching for health reasons. I can maybe see him being GM if he is interested in putting the pieces together of a coaching staff and drafting the players he likes. That doesn’t seem like a huge leap to me especially since he is so familiar with all the players being drafted.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
^A project like this should start with NOACA. They do the traffic analysis studies. They figure out how to get big projects paid for. They decide how important an improvement this might be within a ranking model for the region as a whole to determine whether money should be put towards the top ranked models. I don’t know that this has been studied as an option. I think this is absolutely worthy of being studied.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
^Sounds like a good plan to me. Streetcar from Tower city to the zoo. While they are at it they can update the streetscape and bury the electric lines.

Orange Village: Pinecrest
^Abuelos closed recently. But there is Tre Potrillos on Chagrin which i prefer in that area for Mexican.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
^We are clearly in a different era. Just look at Ohio City as an example of that change. The development from there is rapid and very infectious. It seems we are close to seeing even the W25th market plaza getting knocked down in mere weeks to months for the mixed-use timber towers. These projects wouldn’t have happened 10 years ago let alone 20, 30, or 40 years ago.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Interesting. I saw way upthread on the first page i think that CC had bought a coal supplier called Alpha Natural Resources for $9 billion in 2008 out of Virginia. That couldn’t have been a very good deal unless they were a mining technology company or had high grade mines.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
^^Well the point of the coatings company is not the actual process, its the efficiency in only needing to apply a base coat and the final coat whereas other coatings companies to absolutely protect the metal need typically 4 coats to treat. This therefore saves time and money in treatment.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
^You don’t think that these turbines will be massive? I don’t think that most turbines are this large. I would agree if all turbines are the same size whether on land or sea this should not be done in lake erie. I don’t think land needs to be bought in Lake erie to place these. And no one is going to sue them for being unsightly or too loud. No variances need to be sought.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
My gut feeling and i know that is worth quite a bit, is that people are coming into this area from outside the region to work. Also Millennials are leaving smaller towns like Medina, Wooster, or even Kent that have moved to Tremont and Ohio city. Talking to townhall bartenders and servers most seem to be originally from exurbs outside Cleveland. Not to mention all the massive new building construction going on all over Cuyahoga county where specialty trades are big in demand. The craft brewing industry adds much more than people realize. Its manufacturing that stays in Ohio. There are a lot of supporting manufacturers that are also in Ohio from glass in Toledo to farmers in the region to packaging and marketing materials. It is now a multi-billion dollar industry from almost nothing 20 years ago. There are constantly new Ohio companies that are doing radically new and cutting edge things. Here is a new one i found the other week, Tesla NanoCoatings now in North Canton. No relation to tesla car company. They use nanotubes to coat metals used in caustic environments like pipes in deep sea drilling, tanker trucks, or even bridge underpasses. http://www.glideit.org/news/press-releases/sk-global-chemical-to-invest-more-than-$50-million-in-tesla-nanocoatings

Ohio Ski Resorts
Its hard to say what will happen. Peak’s modus operandi was buying resorts and improving snowmaking systems. They did build new lodges in order to reduce maintenance costs. Vail buys resorts with an eye towards benefiting the skier experience. They focus on improving and adding lifts. Since the snowmaking systems are fairly solid throughout Peak resorts, i expect the focus to be on lifts which is absolutely needed.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
^My gut feeling is each community will go its separate ways. Brecksville and Independence to Parma. The northern suburbs to Cleveland and Maple Heights and Valley View to Bedford.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Basketball Discussion
From the 10-15 minutes i saw of the game Carton really stood out. He looked like a smooth senior out there. He knew when to pass and when to shoot. I haven’t paid attention to OSU for many years since i wasn’t a fan of their system. I’m a bit intrigued with the talent they have now and will likely follow them this year.

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
I don’t get what the point of building a stadium right next to the current stadium. It doesn’t improve the accessibility. It does get a bit closer to the East bank, though. It takes away parking. It has the same lakefront winds unless of course it is a dome or retractible dome. I don’t see how it gets more use than the current stadium since there isn’t room to even add development without taking over significant parts of the port. Do we really want to add the port into the musical chairs? Not even including the various rail infrastructure easements or alterations. Which would also go into the hundreds of millions. Unless someone just wants to blow a lot of money (billions?) for a minor improvement in product for 8 games a year, the pit doesn’t seem a likely location.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
There is no way a stadium could be squeezed into the pit. Also off topic here-ish, i saw that google has a massive project called ‘Operation Nightingale’ that is picking up and analyzing most everyone’s medical data in AI. Perhaps they want to locate that group in Cleveland or maybe many are already here? They said it is currently 150 employees. But it sounds like it could expand rapidly.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
This is pretty wack that the speculation of all the big projects are now related to a possible new stadium. This is the most important time for urban planners in Cleveland as there seems to be insane amounts of musical chairs going on downtown. SHW, justice ctr, police hq, potentially 3-4+ residential towers, a new stadium?, some obnoxiously large company coming to town? We better get the rapids fixed up. We better get a levy voted on to complete the wfl because the direction is clearly up.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Should they make a run of it to the playoffs and i do see that as a possibility, I’d like to see Nance as the starter at small forward. I’m not sure how much upside Cedi has left. I saw a wicked bounce pass by Nance last night for a score. That is more floor awareness than any of the guards seem to have. The real excitement will start for Cavs once they get Windler playing. Bringing Clarkson and Windler on the floor at the same time should improve both of their 3pt percentage because of spacing or so we’re told. I think Porter is going to be fun watching develop as well. I see him as a raw, taller version of Garland.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^What’s wrong with being kicked off immediately at the next stop or pay triple right on spot?

Ohio Transit Funding
Interesting. I see they are throwing money everywhere. I’m not sure I-77 in summit cty needs expanded that soon. I’d wait for a federal “shovel ready” project to do it then.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I’m absolutely good with a 600-900’ building on PS. That is quite significant if that turns out what KJP is going to notify us of. So it should be fun getting the specs and massings.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I don’t doubt SW could build some significant density in the PS area. My doubt is that it will be an interactive mixed use space that will be pleasing to the average downtown worker. My gut feel is people that think they will have a cool urban vibe to walk through will more likely have to walk around those lots as it will be mostly sealed off to employee only access.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Staying on the river seems evolutionary. It ties it to its past. Going to PS is revolutionary and would radically change the company perhaps for the better. They would be buying all new land and need to strive to meet a lot of expectations in the highest profile block in Cleveland. I imagine they just want to focus on paint products and not architecture or retail beyond paint stores. Should they go with the Riverfront bedrock plan, hopefully Huron road can be fixed up like whatever virtual video that came out 6 months ago with running paths along side it.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
There are a lot of unknowns. If SW just is thinking a Goodyear HQ i would agree they should stay at the river. If they want to do something transformative and have an urban campus with likely a hotel and maybe a showcase sherwin williams store and other shops perhaps creating another type of arcade downtown that would be ok with me.

Akron: Downtown: Development and News
This is pretty cool. A marketing company moving down the street to newly renovated bowery area of Akron. @PrittEntGroup: It’s an exciting day for PEG! We’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be renovating and moving into the historic Carlton Building in downtown Akron. Akron-Canton: Restaurant News & Info
^that’s kind of crazy you remember that! I vaguely remember the names but i never ventured out to find them. I’m not sure hunting for a bar in a massive fairly empty industrial complex near the center of Akron was at the top of things i was doing then especially when the main choices were Kent, the valley, or the flats.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Wait can’t we already take a train to chicago at the convenient hour of 3am? How is that new? My vote because of that would be cinci.
