  1. It isn’t a totally done deal. This is the opening salvo from GM. Lordstown is usually on the chopping block every 5 years. I think there is enough political will and push to save Lordstown this go around whether by Federal and/state subsidies. There are definitely going to be some plants that are closing this time around. Lordstown’s issue is that it is set up for smaller vehicles. Which wouldn’t be a huge deal except the profit margin for US-built vehicles is way higher for bigger vehicles. I personally feel that GM could still do very well with smaller cars that are plug in hybrid electric vehicles or phevs. There is a middle point that Americans need to have option of either electric or gas driven vehicles before moving straight to electric in the future. They could probably crush it with a small crossover phev built at Lordstown.

I still think Zizic should be playing more than just garbage minutes. He played great with Osman during the Summer league. That was a fast paced offense free for all. He brought the defense and dominated the boards and also got some easy baskets underneath. I’d like to see a grouping of Zizic, Tristan, Osman, JR, and Hill or Sexton. Let Nance, Korver, Hood, Clarkson come in as backups. With the injuries, they are going to get maybe 20 wins this year. They can still dominate the boards against many teams in NBA when they want. They also have the shooters from 3. Its awfully crowded at the shooting guard position. I can see them trading out someone from that position. If they are able to get the Zion truck from Duke they should be good to go.
  3. Well this strategic group could push to have corporate offices downtown. It makes sense to all of us that corporate offices should be in a downtown. Its kind of a no-brainer that if you are only populating your corporate offices with only the eastern part of Cleveland generally, that your only getting half of the potential pool of workers if that(since not everyone wants to work in a suburban low-rise or vice versa downtown). But if its important for the management, that i would assume lives in Gates Mills and thereabouts,to have easy commutes then maybe nah. Witness Parker Hannafin and Eaton.
  4. ^I think the expected suburban voting pattern has been captured in the polling. What the big question is, will first time Millenial voters come out as well as gen Z. Gen Z is the great unknown at this point. I’m certain the polling is assuming like other generations before, the initial forays are around 15-20% of 18-25 are voting aka not a significant factor. If as i suspect, they double that participation percentage that will shift races all over the country. Hence the blue wave. I think Gen Z wants to make their voice heard. Many things in their lives are made pretty easy with technology and the crazy policy issues the GOP is digging up hail from the 1870s-1940s are not going to play well with them. Its certainly a history lesson. But not one they feel they need to live. They are interconnected i feel and as seen following parkland can organize themselves pretty effectively. With cultural icons like Taylor Swift imploring them to vote, I feel they get the power they now have. We will not know for sure until Tuesday night. But if Gen Z votes as a block and comes out in force, it could be a blue tsunami. That might even flip a few seats in Ohio.
  5. It was nice seeing two cranes in the skyline.
  6. Its all based on who actually shows up at the polls. i wonder if gen z and suburban moms are getting under counted in the polling as well as various ethnicities. This is an incredibly diverse country now and the prez has managed to tick off most all ethnicities. He sort of had orthodox Jews in his camp since his daughter is Jewish. But after this week i don’t see them giving him much support. Also in this last week of campaigning Trump is going to be running around the country in panic mode flying off the handle trying to scare up his base. Not a good look for the rest of the country. Sure he can get his 50 million trumpies to come out and vote. The country’s population is now 325 million. So there should at least another 150 million more eligible voters. I don’t see how there isn’t a blue wave.

There is a lot of talent on the team but they still have a lot of knuckleheads. The trick is to coach up the knuckleheads so they don’t make dumb mistakes or dumb penalties. There were a variety of dumb mistakes the browns had in the game. On one nice gain they flagged Jarvis for happy feet. He never got his feet set and he wasn’t even integral to the play. They lost a 20 yard gain and ended up punting that drive. I think Perriman committed a couple of dumb penalties. I remember the one for holding that was well after the running back had passed but i thought he had another on special teams too. I distinguish between penalties that are from getting competitive advantage or being overly aggressive vs unnecessary penalties for players that are lined up wrong or holding, blocking in the back nowhere near the play. The Browns have a lot of the latter year in and out.

^You got it. Probably 10-15 people got to see the show. Not like they even charge to see the bands. Have seen several random great touring bands there with 12 or less people.

Thought I’d give a couple bands I’ve been listening to a lot lately a little love. Saw Miss Derringer accidentally at a dive bar in Akron on a Thursday probably 8-10 years ago. Astounding vocals and a unique sound. They are on Spotify. I listen to their cd Lullabies all the time. Its a unique southwestern theme in a garage punk styling. A lot of torch songs. Its very different from what i normally listen to. Just feel they should be bigger than playing in dive bars. The other band is pretty new out of Brooklyn. I became aware of them when they were Little Daylight. They had a song remixed by KFlay that sounded killer. So if Metric or Siversun Pickups are your cup of tea, you’ll be astounded by Me Not You. Also on Spotify. They have a new cd out and should be on tour soon.
  10. From my limited perspective I’d say that things are surprisingly better now than they had been for many small towns in Ohio 5-10 years ago. I think it will be important for all the communities in Ohio to get their local taxes back from the state with next governor. I’ve been biking the towpath and completed it to Bolivar. All the towns seem to be in decent shape that I’ve been to. I think it definitely helps having good micro and nano breweries in many of these towns. I’d even say that a sign of a healthy town is that it has a brewery. Northeast Ohio is lucky to have breweries all over the place. Also with all the farmers markets in NEO plus the fracking a little further south, I’d say these really are the best of times as Ohio runs best on cheap energy. Visited Yellow Springs in June and that place is bumping. Visited Wooster in August for the first time and I’d definitely go back there. So, I'd say small town NEO is totally fine but yes could be better.
  11. My feeling is the employees “revolted”. I think it was probably felt in the ‘C’ suites to be a good move and so they pursued it but reality hit and hardly anyone wanted to make the drive to downtown Cleveland or move up north. The upper management probably lives in Hudson or Bath so it wouldn’t be a big deal for them to hop on 480 to 77 or just 77 vs heading down rt 8. There probably aren’t that many people that live in Northern Summit county that work there to make this kind of move easier. I think this is a better move as this is mainly an old line business that they dominate in. It is better to stay in a place that is known for the tire business as their vendors and customers are still mainly in Akron. They also are a manufacturer of plastic pallets, organizers and plastic boxes. Which is what they were probably trying to get people to differentiate from their mainline business with the move to Cleveland. I would wonder if this is a temporary move for them. They already own the Akro Mills building where they are now moving. I would think they can bide their time and build a new corporate building in downtown Akron. They complained initially they couldn’t find a building in downtown to move their HQ. I would think the Main and Market Summa building would be the right size for them but maybe they want more of a campus complex that the repurposed innerbelt downtown might afford.
  12. They really should go with the most expensive option since they finally decided that they really don’t want pedestrians any where near traffic. That wasn’t in the plans for this option that they decided on if one thinks back to the 4 final submissions. I thought the tunnel option would’ve been best if they were worried about pedestrians, which they obviously were. I’m not sure public sq could handle any more serious delays and digging at this point.
  13. I would say the better impetus is through the county executives to have more collaboration. These are the only charter governments in Ohio and so hold more power than other county board commissioners. Cuyahoga county is still in the process of getting its house in order so has had little time to look outside the county for other opportunities. Noaca and amats have had some light discussions over the past few years about transportation projects. There was an effort pushed by ODOT to come up with a combined effort of the metro agencies to pool money for a bigger project that would receive additional ODOT money. I never heard more about this. So i think it was just a random idea.
  14. ^^I’d agree with this assessment. I’d add Sagamore Hills to the Cleveland MSA since it is very similar to Walton Hills. I would think the bulk of the people living there are working in Cuyahoga county. I’m undecided about Twinsburg. That could go either way to me. The I480 exits and the fact that so many people are probably working in Solon would tip it to Cleveland MSA.
  15. They have an app...
  16. Pretty bizarre. I would think it would be more appropriate by the Children’s museum. It would also be more protected from wind. I don’t see this surviving a year in tact with wind storms, snow storms, and plow trucks.
  17. Perhaps a train connection between the zoo and downtown with a stop at steelyard commons? Or do you fee this might be viable doing the whole shebang and connecting it all up to the CVSR?
  18. Thats totally crazy that we will have a new governor in Ohio that actually might respect the cities and transit funding. I watched the Frontline special on Dayton and it was obvious that Dayton is suffering from getting funding from the state as are all the cities. Its great that there is a rainy day fund but do we need to have it at $2.8 billion this year. Maybe it could be $2.2 and $600 million could be given out to the cities that need it.
  19. Every little bit helps in Class A office vacancy. It seems Class A is pretty tight in Cleveland at the moment. Maybe this helps speed along NuCLEus?
  20. Add in a gondola connection to Ohio City and Scranton Peninsula and i can see phase 2 being a go. Great advertising. Great scenery.
  21. @TheRickWilson: Rookie mistake I’m not really much of a fan of Frontier either. They are now a step above Spirit. Since their merger, they are not the same Frontier of 5-8 years ago. If i have a flight that needs to happen on time, I will avoid them.

^I think this is mainly correct. Not sure WR is DEEP at this point. If Dez signs, then yes. This probably is a playoff team if Dez signs. Haley mainly calls quick outs and bubble screens for pass plays. This will be hard to defend with the dominant receivers the Browns have. The biggest question for me is the tight end since Haley tries to use the tight end the most in the red zone. So the first team tight end might be a good fantasy pick this year.

Saw the Pumpkins last week in Pittsburgh and they sounded absolutely fantastic. I didn’t realize what type of show this was going to be. I thought it was a normal show of pumpkins playing 12-15 songs with Metric opening doing the same. I was looking forward to hearing Metric. They went on at 7 and played til 7:45 when we arrived. I thought that was pretty much half the show i missed. For $95 tickets i was not a happy camper. So when i looked at the set list of what to expect from the pumpkins it showed consistently 32-33 songs. They pretty much played most of my favorite songs. I haven’t listened to them in years since most of their music i bought was on cassette tapes. Billy sounded great singing and solid on his guitar, but they had two other guys helping out on guitar. Jimmy really was amazing from start to finish. He’s definitely in my top 5 of rock drummers.
  24. Good first stab at conceptual design for the site. I would like to see some underground connection to the RTA station to make this seriously TOD-like. Perhaps ideally from the middle of the plaza have the tunnel go straight to the rapid station. More realistically it will probably have to be near the sidewalk and fully controlled by RTA.

Barring a rash of injuries at various important positions i expect at least 7 wins for the Browns because the talent level and professionalism they now have. They don’t have a bunch of high end number 1 picks that are just there to stroke their own egos and get paid. The linebackers on the browns are probably the best ever. The WRs are the best ever. All other positions are solid if maybe a bit inexperienced. It will be really hard for this team to screw this up getting at least 6 wins.
