  1. As with today’s indictment of a sitting Representative, I feel that there are more indictments to drop over the next few weeks. I’m thinking Roger Stone and DJTjr and maybe Jared could be hit with indictments plus some more GOP Reps since they all sold off with the same insider info. Any of those things happen I just don’t see how Trump keeps his 41% approval rate. Only positive news story I see happening is getting the farm bill passed in early September. The unnecessary trade war will have more effects in 3 months on most peoples wallets and likely more people will lose their jobs.
  2. This is a pretty definitive look at what the races for seats looks like. https://www.cookpolitical.com/ratings There could be more indictments over the SEC insider trading coming as several other current and former GOP Representatives also were trading that Innate stock in January of 2017. Conaway of Texas and Price the former Secretary of HHS are a couple.
  3. http://gothamist.com/2018/08/08/chris_collins_ny_congressman_vocal.php Another GOP seat has opened up. Looking at the Cook political report that seat was considered safe Republican as i don’t see it in the toss-up, lean, or likely lists.
  4. I believe $4-6 million was spent by the GOP candidate Balderson vs around 1.5 million by O’Conner. Plus Trump had to come to town and Balderson got the approval of both Trump and Kasich. It is considered a +17 district for GOP. The GOP will not have this amount of resources to defend this seat in the Fall. This seat is still an open seat until all provisional ballots are counted. Typically these type of ballots favor Democrats since they are the ones that are going to more likely need a provisional ballot since they are going to be taken off voter rolls. This does not bode well for what is left of the Republican party.

Still true in 2018, no? I believe that both Tyrod Taylor and Baker Mayfield are legit starters for most NFL teams. I don’t think that Tyrod is a particularly good passer however he is a good game manager and he is elusive in the pocket. Browns also this year have a good offensive coordinator that won’t get the offense into trouble and constantly have to punt. What killed the Browns last year was the defense having to play so many minutes. Offense coordinator gets the concept of ball control. That is the game inside the game.

I think the Browns are going to surprise people this year. I’m not a Browns fan but i will actually enjoy watching this team knowing they won’t embarrass themselves. This is a passing league and really has been for 30+ years and the Browns have not had a good qb that was a legit starter since 1996 or so. They now have absolute terrors as wide receivers. I really don’t see many holes on this team at this point. Certainly they will get punished this season for rookie mistakes as it is a young team. I see the Browns as an up and coming .500 team.
  7. It looks like there is a lot of public feedback they will be accepting. I would suggest you get involved to help steer the project since you feel passionate about it. It doesn’t look like anything is set. They want to do something and have the money to use to beautify that block. Since Canton isn’t that big of a population and not that many people are that proactive, you will probably be surprised at how much say you can have if you can give logical and thoughtful input. I certainly have no care what they do since i get to Canton maybe once a year. It might be better to put the money to use in coming up with an urban street plan for all of downtown Canton as far as 1 way streets, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, stop light synchronization, and transit. Also a plan could be worked on to add more residents downtown and ways to make it more liveable.
  8. ^I agree. That is why I don’t see a football team being realistic. They are in Division 1 with Horizon. 5000 less in enrollment than Wright St. maybe if the enrollment was at 18-22000, it would be realistic to even think about a big football program. Keep in mind that big programs like Notre Dame may play this future CSU team but it would only be as part of a cupcake early matchup in South Bend, IN. So any teams coming to CLE would be smaller schools of whatever conference. Its a totally losing proposition. Only schools with tradition does it make sense to keep doing it. To go with a small football program and build a small stadium still costs a lot of money that is not being spent on other programs. They would need to find a small Div 1 conference and would likely serve as doormats for Army or Navy or even YSU until they did. That is why I would say a soccer specific field is the way to go. But I think sizing is difficult if the school needs only 3000-4000 capacity but if pro team wants 10-14000. I just don’t see how any of this will work.
  9. ^From reading stories it doesn’t sound “disastrous”. It sounds like a mediocre team playing new schedules of unknown ACC teams and no Penn State on the schedule with very little focused marketing or giveaways. So maybe the package deal could be CSU using the stadium for 10 years for CSU football and the Force(?) also using the Browns stadium for 10 years. That would add an additional 25+ days a year of use for a stadium that sees maybe 12-13 days?
  10. ^I imagine they do that is likely single use rates. Things can be negotiated for long term contracts. Its not like they are setting up for Beyonce or Taylor Swift to come in before a Browns game. It would be a football game on a Saturday followed by another occasionally on Sundays. Get enough fans to show up and it does indeed pay to not have to put capital investment into a significant structure that also needs constant upkeep and personnel to maintain.
  11. If CSU wants football then they should go big with using the Browns stadium. I believe Pitt now uses the Heinz field as their football stadium. Why waste space and money on another stadium that is used 6-7x a year at most. That would be a selling point for a football program. The issue would likely be finding a conference to join so they might need to be independent for a while. That would save space for a soccer specific field at Krenzler. However, I agree that a league will not like relying on a college for the stadium.
  12. I was mainly against this thinking that maybe too much of the muni lot was going to be taken up for this project. Since it looks like the bulk of the usable muni lot will stay as is, the only other thought would be for waterline expansion which likely won’t happen anytime soon. Since I don’t see that land really providing much other use, sandwiched in between rail and highway , why not some retail outlet. Looking at it from a jobs standpoint, there are a whole lot of teenagers that need jobs. Also college students need part time jobs. There also need to be managers. This will probably not be primary shopping for Clevelanders. Just like if one goes down to Myrtle Beach there are shopping complexes full of tshirt stores and kitschy things. I would think 1/3 of business would be I-90 drivers passing through, another third would be people stopping in Cleveland going to attractions and a third people that work downtown and live in the east side suburbs or vice versa.
  13. Sounds like decent employee housing for the servers and bartenders in the flats. They will save money on not having a car since you can live, work, and play right downtown. The waterline might get some use from this.
  14. ^That is what I am seeing as well. So then the other 5-6 will be going across the street? Or will some parking lot be taken out behind the current townhomes?
  15. Also mentioned in the article is an extension of the northside townhomes. It looks like there are currently 7 that have been built and they are indicating another 12 will be built. I’m not sure it will be same style as i don’t think there is the space for that many. It looks like only another 6 would fit. Looking on Zillow it shows plots that had been marketed earlier. It suggests the price for the units below $150k. Most units they build go for well above $220k. So curious what these new townhomes look like.

I agree Sexton looked pretty good. I think he can be in the top 20 guards in the league by the end of the year. Sexton was able to tip the ball a lot in passing lanes to create turnovers too. I totally missed seeing Preston play. Hopefully they will allow him to play with the first team more tonight against the Bulls. Pretty much what i expected for a first game. Hopefully see some assists tonight from Sexton.
  17. I think that is a little too cautious. I’m ok with having it off at night during the 2-3 weeks of migrations in Spring and Fall. The only birds that are flying at night that i know of are sea gulls, which should be pretty aware of those turbines. I can’t see bats flying that far out for insects. Besides the turbine will be slapping insects away if they are there.

Nobody has mentioned it on this forum, but the Cavs did pick up an interesting raw prospect post draft in Billy Preston. The Cavs might be able to drop him into Lebron’s set plays as he can perform at a comparable level of Lebron on offense. From what i can tell he is like a 17yr old version of Lebron but he is now 19 or 20 and missed a good year of organized basketball. He also has bounced around every year for the last 6 years. There isn’t a whole lot of film on him, but what there is is fairly impressive. He has the physical tools at about 6’10”. I’m intrigued to watch the Summer league starting Friday to see if there is any Irving to LeBron magic happening between Sexton and Preston. The fast breaks should be great as they both attack the basket. I can see a path forward for the Cavs on a team built for Lebron with 0 expectations to maybe make the playoffs. This becomes Sexton’s team due to his sheer will to win and court vision. If Preston can play more than 20 minutes a game, the Cavs might be able to scare Toronto.
  19. Gondolas that were talked about from skylift were 8 person gondolas. That is pretty substantial. The hourly capacity for the excalibur 2 at whistler which has a slow mid-loading station is 2600/hr. I’ve seen capacity of other gondolas at 3600/hr. Going to the Doppelmayr website they have a new system called 3s that can get capacity to 5000/hr. I believe this is what Disney is building right now to link all their parks in Florida. https://www.doppelmayr.com/en/products/3s-gondola-lift/
  20. I don’t know that the mahogany row level has been taken over in the Goodyear HQ yet. It just seems, with the acquisitions Smuckers has made, that Akron is probably a better location for handling brand and strategic marketing than Orrville. It is a different world of marketing these days with social media and marketing campaigns linking tv commercials back to new webpages. So for space considerations, technological reasons, possibly logistical reasons, but mainly cultural reasons, it would make sense to get the bulk of that part of the business together in one location in an urban area close to other Fortune 500 companies. A few years ago Smuckers had a good chunk of their IT people in Fairlawn while they worked on expanding offices in Orrville.
  21. Pretty simple. They blew up in Tburg but i really wasn’t hearing much about them in last couple years. It looks like they have offices in highland heights as well as in Columbus. The main thing is that they were bought out last year by McKesson from SF.
  22. ^I don’t feel that the park is very conducive to full blown development. There was already a lot of metro parks for both summit county anf Cuyahoga county surrounding and in the valley. Many of thr parts of the cvnp would be metro parks today. The valley is too rugged for housing developments. There are 2 super highways that go between the counties that seem to be ever expanding in width. I imagine there will be a tipping point to where there is enough people driving between the counties for work.
  23. This is an important discussion but I would say that things have improved in the last 8 years in Cleveland. Had the Cuyahoga county charter not passed I would think Cleveland would be in even worse shape. I would not consider living in Cuyahoga county before that change. So by having better county management the improvement might not be seen in the numbers since it only happened 8 years ago as older decisions are more baked in to the region. Also the construction in Cleveland is finally starting so that is also a positive. It really shouldn’t be that hard to identify in general what is wrong in the region. The problem is figuring out the solutions to change them and having the political will to follow through. That is why i think county government in Cuyahoga county is key since there are no trio of naybobs making deals to undercut each other. I think there should be a little more collaboration with Summit county and other counties. Akron is looking at the same questions and their goal is to stabilize population and get it back to 220.000 by 2035. The main factors to me are transportation and schools primarily and access to capital which isn’t a Cleveland problem. I believe that what is also being asked is what happened in Akron every 30-40 years as different industries would die out or stop growing since the 1850s, what next?
  24. ^ Sure, whatever. I don’t think there are many people advocating that charter schools should all be shut down. However, i would not mind seeing all for profit ones shut down or switched over to non-profit status. Charter schools are here but they also need to pull their weight and meet the same standards as public schools. To me the whole thing is still a republican scam to cut out a big voting block from the Democrats. As they weaken the public schools by giving them less money, they weaken the teachers unions. That is the point. If republicans can make money while doing this even better. Obviously public schools are not perfect either. But instead of trying of improve them, the GOP, decided to cut them out at the knees throughout the midwest. So a one in a million story where a kid does something great from a charter school is obviously the exception.
  25. I think the issue really is that we are handling online education wrong. It shouldn’t an all inclusive one stop shop of education where it can educate all the troubled students that for whatever reason cannot attend a local school. That is a very tall order. There should be some general online school that can handle pieces of education. The main one that comes to mind for me would be math. But early reading and spelling could also be put online as well. The benefit of this would be that it could meet a standard. There would be testing after each section and a high enough understanding of the section would have to be achieved before moving on to the next section. The best part of this is it could be done in a study hall it could be done on vacation it could be done during the summer. Then provide certifications for achievement based on on-site testing. Allow students to test out of taking math for the incoming school year. The positive for students is they can move on to learn other things while other students can get the help they need. The benefit for teachers is your focusing attention where it is needed. The benefit for schools is they may be able to have less math classes and teachers if students are incentivized to learn on their own. This could be used by charter schools and home educated kids.
