  1. ^eh its Cleveland, not Euclid
  2. I think what would also help this bid is if the city were even giving rudimentary interest in the skylift proposal. That would certainly work well with what Amazon is seeking to find in a forward thinking city as the gondolas help to bridge the various sections of Cleveland. This project would surely be a go if Amazon were coming to town.
  3. Strange since Welty's Cleveland office is in 515. I assumed they would've been the construction company.
  4. If Bezos is complaining about taxes, then he obviously cares how much land costs. That would be an enormous kick to the local economy. There will probably be 3-5 residential towers. The 2nd phase of the casino would probably start.
  5. Very cool! I wasn't expecting to see anything in the air today. So that crane is going to be building the other crane.
  6. Driving into Cleveland tonight on 77 i noticed there was a crane behind the baseball stadium. It kind of looked like the yellow crane but hoisted high. It was also behind the At&t building if that helps out with perspective. I'm thinking that 515 shouldn't be that viewable from I77 though. What crane would that be?
  7. ^I thought that too if they are worried about yellowstone or Idaho super volcanoes happening in the next 20-30 years. Or to be a North Korea target in the next few months(weeks?)
  8. If Cleveland Clinic can attract international talent or the Cleveland Orchestra, I see no reason that Cleveland can't bring people in from Pittsburgh, Chicago, Buffalo, and Toronto to work for a tech hq like Amazon. Mr "I went west" obviously has not been back to cleveland in 5 or so years. I was walking around Seattle 7 years ago and it felt like Tremont or Ohio City near the capitol. i really don't see that there is that much difference in "culture" with Seattle. So I don't feel workforce or "declining workforce" as a factor for Cleveland as all cities will need to bring people in. The key for Cleveland is the ability to absorb this faster than any other city. With low prices on land and housing, Cleveland crushes that. Denver housing has skyrocketed. It is very difficult to move there right now. The market is so tight anywhere near Denver. A person coming to Cleveland with a $100k job will find plenty of choices.
  9. ^Thats one site. 3-4 more to go. I don't think North coast would work due to height restrictions for Burke airport.
  10. In this announcement, I think the first step is inclusion. What cities meet the most basic criteria. All 3Cs meet the criteria. They should get proposals of land/sites available that is near transit or can be made transit friendly from a list of 25-35 cities with acquisition costs. Houston, New Orleans, and Florida cities would not make the list due to hurricane risk and being at sea level. West coast cities would not make the list since they would likely want the Hq in a separate time zone. I don't disqualify the airports in Ohio since if this is brought in i think the airlines would gear up to handle the additional traffic. This isn't a standalone project. If this goes forward, there will be construction, architect, and design companies coming in from all over the world to get a piece of this. There will be improved effort on part of the state to upgrade transit and infrastructure. There will be other complementary businesses wanting to be closer and have offices near the new hq like a bigger Cisco presence and other IT and software companies. That could add another 10-20k workers at least. With construction jobs and ancillary jobs it is adding probably 100,000 new jobs total to a city over 10 years.
  11. ^is this seriously just duplicating their other hq? That sounds like something a government might do. I liked my idea of it being the American HQ. That way an international airport wouldn't be needed. Otherwise its going to Atlanta.
  12. That is pretty crazy to think that there are 4-5 legit areas that a project this size could go in Cleveland. Northcoast, warehouse district aka pesht, scranton peninsula, north of CSU, and opportunity corridor. I'm wondering if they are creating a 2nd Hq for the US and Seattle will be the international HQ.
  13. If they are looking at that many people. Easily half the 50k would be coming from outside the region in most any location they chose. My initial thought was land to build that big of an HQ. Not many cities have that kind of land available in or nearby their downtowns. The next thought was price of land and the price of the infrastructure needed to handle this undertaking. Putting this in Silicon Valley would be very expensive with land and infrastructure. Then paying the people there would get even more expensive. I would think for this reason NYC, SF, and Chicago would be off the list. Houston could make the cut except as seen by the hurricane hitting, not a good place for a new HQ. I would think Atlanta must be a favorite. perhaps Denver. If they were considering Cleveland, Scranton peninsula may work and also perhaps the northcoast harbor. They could easily fund the skylift gondolas and/or a streetcar into Scranton to make getting around downtown convenient.
  14. ^The last i saw i posted in July, i think it was. Brook Park is actually making headway with Ford in negotiations over the plant. They felt they might be able to announce something soon. So the take-away for me is they really do want that location. I believe the state will get involved to help out with redevelopment costs. I imagine that they will combine their agreement with maybe Ford being the first OEM and perhaps only OEM for a limited time for the product.
  15. ^i rarely get to concur with Ram. Just wait for September 12 when the new iphone is released. People are saving money more, i don't doubt that. Millenials are saving up for a new house or even tuition and books. I feel we have been in a bleeding edge of cashflow where people have been living paycheck to paycheck. I've been studying the retail market as I'm contemplating a store, probably not for another 6 months. The department stores that are just boxes of crap with no service and annoying check out system are going to die. One can go to Target or Walmart for cheaper and maybe better service. Beyond that boutique and niche stores are still strong. Any store that is strong in service is going to do very well.
  16. Not to get this thread totally off track. But the giant eagle market districts are pretty cool to shop at. I've been to strongsville and Solon and i prefer the one in Cuy Falls. The best part is the changing beer list at their bar. They carry a lot more unique items and organic than regular stores. I would expect them to start changing over maybe like the Lakewood one over to a MD.
  17. This isn't really downtown as its in the chapel hill area. The road is not that heavily used of a road but since the crossing gets blocked a lot by some traffic and train movements it was decided to build a bridge over it in order to allow safety vehicles through and not have school buses cross the tracks any more. This is definitely a nicety. It is one less at-grade crossing to worry about for trains in the Akron area. I don't think this changes the equation much of any new passenger service whether the dinner train concept or commuter.

I can't see the Browns starting Kizer in the 1st game against the Steelers. They bring too many schemes and will have a multi sack game against him. An experienced qb is better when starting against a tough D like that.
  19. So its a 6 and a half hour flight to Iceland from Cleveland. These will be great options for accessing Northern Europe. I definitely look forward to checking out Scandinavia this way.

^^^I agree with these thoughts. I would expect on a typical night Kyrie might go to the hoop 2-3x a game. I don't think its unusual for IT to go to the hoop 5-10x a game. The key to this season will be managing the point guard minutes. Rose will play more minutes early in the season and they will hopefully ease off of him when IT is ready. I would hope Rose starts when the Cavs are facing bigger PGs.

The ABJ is reporting that the Cavs are shipping Kyrie off to Beantown for Isiah, Crowder, a big man, and the Nets 1st round pick. Seems line a good deal to me.
  22. I would expect Barrio to be the most likely to expand out of Cleveland of any place. It's still fairly new and very popular. I would expect them to follow a Melt growth pattern. They do have great marketing and branding. I have no doubt they will grow at their own pace whatever that turns out to be.
  23. If it is a good concept i don't particularly care where the franchise starts out of. Many new franchises have started up fast pizza concept and honestly I'd rather have a Dayton style pizza than those mediocre thin high heat pizzas. I'm totally satisfied with Cosmic Daves and Jersey Mikes for subs. I don't care for fast casual restaurants that seem to test market around Columbus before metastasizing to other parts of Ohio. I think Winking Lizard crushes those anyway. I tried the bakersfield taco place. I'm lukewarm about it. Seems overpriced for what it is. $4 mini tacos that were very hit and miss. I'd much rather go to taco tantos and barrio. Anything truly interesting will more than likely come from the coasts. Probably only franchise i'm looking forward to coming into Ohio is Shake shack since i know they raised a ton of money to expand. I don't expect it to beat swensons. But we'll see. We have an incredibly diverse amount of high quality restaurants throughout Northeast Ohio. I can't even get to 2% of restaurants a year in Cuyahoga county, why would i worry about a franchise from elsewhere in Ohio to come here?
  24. ^I guess that would only be computer operations staff. Nowadays that can be pretty slim as tape jockeys aren't needed and many things can be done remotely. I know i knew people that worked at that location as consultants. I assumed that when i heard someone worked in programming they were there. Now i wonder if they weren't over in Strongsville area or maybe Independence? Its a big operation, somewhere. Those are people that are typically brought into a consolidated HQ. I'm not aware that there is much software development happening downtown. But all i know is from what i heard 10-15 years ago.
  25. ^Yes in immediate future. However, if things get clear with healthcare and it makes sense to proceed with a new building then maybe in 2-5 years. I don't think they want to remain in the location they are at. I believe it would make sense to consolidate what they can in more modern offices.
