  1. ^I can see them trying to approximate a First and Main type of development there.

Its too bad that the Cavs lost Bogat. I would like to see how he would've challenged Durant or anyone else under the basket. having a true center helps the outside shooters.
  3. I thought of that too. I quickly discounted it since i would think that forest city would've tested that option before selling.
  4. I would be shocked that a tall new building in a high profile theater district doesn't have store fronts on the first floor. They know the point is to keep it lively especially when they said they want more people walking along Euclid is kind of the purpose of the building.
  5. ^^^Urban options aren't too plentiful in Akron. Until there are more options, Cleveland is the only real urban liveable location in Northeast Ohio.
  6. ???? There's already city and county jails. Facts: http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/06/cleveland_city_council_to_appr.html Some newspaper education.
  7. I think the most basic change is the way the county government is no longer a 3 headed monster of a boys club. With accountability, no longer is the county working at juxtapositions to the main city. Perhaps more things( jail, airport, etc) can move to the county in the near future.
  8. I just worry about the phrase redistribution of wealth as that makes conservatives go herky jerky. Its more that a Solon has plenty of tax base to do with what they want in their city and they can reinvest in their infrastructure as they see fit and keep the good times rolling. Cleveland missed the bus on that somehow in the 1950-1970s as the highways were being built out to the Solons.
  9. I don't know that it is necessarily a distribution of wealth as opposed to being more efficient in government. Not having replicating government services and school districts every mile of Cuyahoga county plus ensuing zoning regulations and taxing regimes can make it a lot simpler for expanding companies to deal with just one local government.
  10. ^^^I don't have any special insight on the APEG decision making. They have all their articles about the company on their website. I look at it as they are about to create the biggest killer app for the world's automakers. I think there will be some competitors to them from reading the science paper going over each country's similar technology. But at this point it is first mover level, which is why speed to market wins. Knowing that, the most important aspects are being able to find good engineers, plentiful location options, people with experience in the automotive industry and an airport nearby absolutely helps. I don't think they need to be 3 min away but anywhere up to 30 minutes is probably fine. i think all those boxes are checked pretty strongly in the Cleveland area.
  11. ^^Don't forget there are contractors. I have met many people who have worked at Medical Mutual as IT contractors. I would imagine there are dozens working over in Beachwood. I can't speak to S-W, but I imagine they also use contractors but probably not as heavily.

^Agree with this. With a better train system in Ohio that would also make it a better market especially if all the major airports in Ohio get linked to downtowns and those downtowns get linked to other downtowns. If France can do it, why not Ohio?

Hardly worth the pixels to respond to this. This would be a royal waste of money. That is not how to do infrastructure.
  14. ^I noticed that as well. I think his role will be as an advisor on the government aspect for the company in how they pursue military and or homeland security vehicles sales. This could include seeking further R&D funding from the government. So I feel he should be government-facing not a business-focused advisor so should not have much say in plant location decisions.
  15. I felt this was more of a play for tax credits to see what states could bring to the table to juice up a deal especially since the Ford plant was a bit of a dud. I don't know that they had a building in mind anywhere. It really comes down to the right type of building and if there is a good amount of workers to choose from that are nearby as they will need a variety of skillsets to create all their departments. With the time-frame, no cornfields will be damaged for this project.
  16. ^Why would it be if it is just being touted by the city and the owner of the property(Ford) isn't interested in leasing or selling. This group needs a turnkey facility. Again there are many that meet the requirements all over NEO and in Cleveland. It doesn't matter to me where this plant goes as long as its in Northeast Ohio. They said they would announce in June their choice.
  17. ^^Looking at loopnet for industrial properties over 30k sq ft in the Pittsburgh area and there really aren't any above 100k except for pure distribution warehouses. So unlikely this is going to PA.
  18. Bizarre that the Ford plant was ever mentioned as an option if there is no site control over it. I don't expect that they are needing a massive plant to produce new fangled spark plugs. They won't need overhead cranes or 80ft ceilings. I would think there would be dozens of complexes that are vacant in Cuyahoga county that would meet their needs.

With the massive conglomerates that own the radio stations they feel that is all there needs to be is the easy answer. Otherwise, its hard to keep up with new artists and the 25-45yr olds tastes in music. Most are working and therefore don't have time to listen to music? It seemed to change in 2001. Rage against the machine was mainly banned from the airwaves. Any aggressive or protesting type music was taken off playlists. I remember NIN being absolutely huge in the late 90s with those stickers on the backs of everyone's cars. I don't know that commercial alt stations are very prevalent except in largest of cities. Its very rare anymore to see bamd stickers on the backs of cars except for metallica or maybe sabbath. Since Cleveland doesn't have a major rock station playing new music, that is a reason why new bands do not feel obligated to stop in Cleveland anymore. What made Cleveland huge for music was the marketing muscle of radio stations to promote concerts of national touring acts. That doesn't happen anymore unless its a country station. It could be because there are no djs in the stations or it could be the djs that are there are old and fat, and just there to collect a paycheck.

Here's a crazy idea: an ikea on the lake. Also, use it as a shipping and distribution location to other ikeas. That would be very green since it would reduce the amount of trucks driving to the stores from the east coast. Sweden is practically on the way from the current freighter line that comes into the Port of Cleveland.

What i get from this commentary is she is upset that liberals don't fix the justice system. Therefore, liberals suck. If she can talk down to her contemporary liberal elites on Huffington since she knows so many, what does that make her? I don't really get the purpose of this new thread.

Well the beauty of this is we will find out which is the better team soon enough.

More fire power on the Warriors than the Cavs. Cavs have 3 all stars. The Warriors have 4-5.

I would say the Cavs performed as lackadaisical as the fans. The Celtics knew if they pressed hard in the 2nd half and got lucky with better shooting they could steal a win. The Cavs figured it was a foregone conclusion they would win. Hard to stay focused for just maintaining the lead.
  25. Well we'll see how much they charge for these uber spark plugs as well. Engineers/mechanics have known the direction to go would be plasma for probably 20 years. From what I can see early versions of plasma spark plugs have been for sale for 10 years. The recent breakthrough was with adding microwaves and finding the right resonance wave in addition to the plasma. So no longer does the fuel need to be 70% in the cylinder to fire off a spark it can be dropped down to maybe 30-50% fuel or less. Also they are looking at altering the flow of fuel as needed for additional horsepower on demand. I could see engine design changing since it may not be needed to ever change a spark plug again since they are not going to have the wear and tear of how spark plugs are used now. Putting on my futurist hat, this would seem the ideal auxiliary engine for electric hybrids. Light-weight 3 cylinder engine that could power the car by itself if the batteries died or keep batteries charged by running in the background. Another massive benefit should be climate change and more immediately, smog since there is likely to be an 80% reduction in pollutants.
