Managing success of urban revitalization
^^I'm sure you nailed the reason. So they should be perfectly content where the district throws their kid?

Interesting. I believe that is where the canoeing class was going to be for UOfA. Once i found that out i dropped that for bowling.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
True. Another factor in how a qb performs in college vs pros is how good his receiving corps is. If a qb in college has the best receivers and is in a system that works with his best assets then that qb will go very high. Vince Young comes to mind. Various USC QBs as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the Clemson qb falls into this category either as Mike Williams, his main WR, is a stud and will be going in the first round easily as best WR in the draft. Clemson has had some of the best receivers in the country the last 3-4 years. How could a qb not put up big numbers if his receivers are absolutely dominant and faster than everyone else?

Weird looking complex. It looks like the same architect that did the UA College of business building. I wonder what the point of the greenhouse building is. Is that their "lobby"?

Canton-Massillon: Random Development and News
It has more of a "Huh?" effect on me. So they are going to build a 160ft shower in the grassy square. Are people in Canton trying to get wet before they go into a restaurant? Just because it will look pretty for stupid promotional flyers of Canton doesn't mean it should be moved forward. i would suggest they have a firehose shoot straight up on the square and see if that is good enough or see how long that amuses people. That would save $9 million. You're welcome, Canton.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I, for one, look forward to the mock up. The slowing down of the shoreway would make sense to me if this urbanist idea was the overall goal of getting rid of the shoreway proper going by downtown. IIRC, it seems that the bridge over the Cuyahoga is coming up for replacement in 5-10 years and could be a very expensive bridge to replace. So what you are suggesting could be a legitimate alternative.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
^I would suspect one of Dino's clients needs more space due to growth.

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Well all that land would be immeasurably more valuable if the phase 2 of the casino ever were to take place. Perhaps with phase 2 of the Q Gilbert will decide to expand the casino as well.

Cleveland: Rocket Arena (Gund Arena)
I'm not opposed to reinvestment. I just think it should be a good amount of bang for the buck. This seems like whatever the designer and architects dreamed up they are doing. The charges will be passed on to even more expensive shows and Cavs games. So unless the bottom bowl seats are being replaced with posh new ones i don't see a direct benefit to the general public.

Governor John Kasich
Hopefully the electors will vote for him to the presidency.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
For SLC, I would expect it has something to do with a fairly cosmopolitan population. The Mormons live in many countries and travel extensively so they could be used to train travel. The city is finally big enough to warrant some rail.

You act like he cares. Hint: he doesn't. Trump will be focused on getting his Trump Presidential Library built. I guarantee it will be the biggest and best.

World Series 2016
^^Pretty funny you say that. I'm really not a baseball fan anymore due to the salary imbalance. I was at a wine bar and the game was on in front of me and that play happened and the place went nuts. I felt that was a special event as well and it looked to me that was a sign that they would get to the post season and do fairly well, which they did. I ended up watching most of the games in the world series. I thought Naquin would be more effective in the playoffs since he came through there. Maybe it was just a total fluke.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Not sure this exactly goes here but it is related. The Cleveland Skylift people are flying in engineers to discuss locations for the stations with the city planning dept. If that is going to happen a good option might be to slap one on top of the fabled train station/parking garage/pedestrian bridge/bus station thing. From their facebook: Things are moving in the right direction, we are flying in our gondola engineers to participate in a stakeholder design meeting. Cleveland City Planning is coming through for us and helping us facilitate! Lots of forward thinkers attending :) Cle is on a roll, lets make it fly!

That's becoming a nice little campus. Do they use the memorial gym for anything? They were using the engineer building for company training a few years ago.

Driverless Cars
I think it is realistic to expect to see convoys of driverless trucks on the ohio turnpike in the next couple of years. The stipulation is the lead truck has a driver and i believe the back of the convoy also has a driver. Testing on this was to begin soon.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Keep in mind the main political question is how to spend and where to spend money. One common refrain i hear that i think is typical for the rust belt is "we can't afford that". The other philosophical aspect is to have government do as little as possible so that citizens can have more money to invest. It definitely takes serious political courage to want to improve big ticket transportation systems.

E-Check
Ashtabula is not part of the echeck program. Only 7 counties around Cleveland
-
E-Check
^Wow! I guess I don't get out in my community enough. I haven't seen or heard about that yet. I may have seen it but I assumed there was something seriously wrong with the vehicle. Little did I know. I think the presence of e-check may curtail that kind of activity around here as they wouldn't really appreciate the mods. So I guess I am for keeping it now that I would totally expect 90% of the fine upstanding citizens that drive lifted pick-ups to want to do this.
-
E-Check
As far as I know, it is a EPA mandate if an area of the country is not in compliance to have some program put in place to control greenhouse gases. Ohio EPA chose to go for auto exhaust as the primary way to control emissions instead of going after coal-fired utilities, auto plants, or the steel industry that were the main cause. With all the shutdowns of plants throughout Northeast Ohio plus newer vehicles on the road with better exhaust systems and electric and hybrid cars, I would think we should be pretty close to being in the clear. Although, I believe it just takes 1 or 2 smog alert days a year which can happen with the recent spate of 90+ degree days to keep the e-check program in place.

Defining Cleveland and Akron's neighborhood boundaries
It looks fairly good to me for Akron. I'd say that West Hill should be the eastern half of Highland Sq on the map. No one considers St V-M to be in Highland Sq. Well, no one that I know. Also, with the I76 reconstruction i would wonder if people will consider that part of downtown when they are done. I believe traffic on Main st will be totally different. Plus they have knocked down several old factories, warehouses, and general buildings to change the exit and on ramps. I just have a feeling that will be considered part of South Akron going forward.

2016 U.S. Senate Race
I agree. I see him winning this race because Strickland is a horrible candidate. Portman does seem a bit different from most candidates in that he is at least willing to listen and understand an issue to make an informed decision rather than being a knee jerk republican. I'll wait til November to decide who will get my vote.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
With that big of a vote against keeping their own fire dept, they likely will be going with Macedonia as well. They should consider doing a merger study with Macedonia. They are outsourcing their policing to the county sheriff so obviously some savings there. I can't imagine Macedonia residents voting against a merger. It would be up to Northfield Center residents to decide if they want to start paying a 2% tax which most are probably paying already to some city.
