Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
Quoting from previous page Great news for Irishtown Bend! Wasn't sure where best to post so also cross-posted in the Ohio City development page. https://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2020/07/16/metroparks-to-demolish-two-buildings-on-w-25th-street-for-irishtown-bend-project "Metroparks to Demolish Two Buildings on W. 25th Street for Irishtown Bend Project" 'The Cleveland Metroparks will demolish two buildings on W. 25th Street in what will be the "first major visible step" in the forthcoming Irishtown Bend project, which aims to clear and stabilize the Cuyahoga River hillside along the eponymous bend and transform it into a 23-acre park.' Cool! I was about to ask on one of these threads when those buildings were coming down. Should improve the view from Bookhouse brewing.

Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
its obviously an improvement from previous. It looks like a nice random apartment building from the 90s. I would wonder if they would not want to take advantage of the spectacular views and add a community room at the top with lounge area. i see this going more vertical still at least another floor or 2.

Ohio Music
Thought I’d add one of the best bands performing in Cleveland these days. Punch Drunk Tagalongs. Found this video that is a good idea of their sound and range.

Ohio to Erie Trail (Cincinnati to Cleveland)
I ride in 10-ish mile segments sometimes longer if taking advantage of the CVSR which is not operating this year. So I’m really riding 20+ since i have to ride back. I’m riding a mountain bike for building stamina so speed and distance aren’t a huge concern. Using a road bike should be no problem until getting to Bolivar from Cleveland. I haven’t been much further than that to know the conditions. The trail becomes more of a wide single track once it crosses over I-77 south of Bolivar. I’m not sure there is much of a trail past New Philadelphia to get to Columbus. I have not investigated further. Stops from Akron south i like are both R Sheas breweries and the peanut shop on Main st. i mix the summit county brewpath tour with my own tour of the towpath which is another benefit of doing the towpath in stages. So i also try to hit the other Akron breweries along the towpath including lock15, missing falls and magic city brewing in south akron. I popped into Ignite brewing in downtown barberton a couple weeks ago. Not part of the brewpath but great brewery stops are in Massillon Paradigm shift and in Bolivar Lockport brewing. Both are a mile or so away from the towpath. Sublime Smoke in Bolivar is considered one of the better bbq joints in the region and its a block from the towpath trail. Putting sokolowskis to sublime smoke into google maps is 85 miles and a 7hr ride. That seems like a long enough day of riding to me.

^Constitutionally, they still could.

Rolling acres in Akron should be opening soon for amazon if it hasn’t already.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
^This is mainly getting teams an abbreviated short season and an option for some teams to play themselves into the playoffs and back in game shape. I suspect some older players are going to get injured from this intense end of season playoff schedule.

Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
With all the towers going up maybe this property is mid rise worthy.

Cleveland: Nautica Development
^^Good point about Vancouver. Would need about 30-40 more of these to even get that feel. I can’t see anything to quibble with in design. I think everyone is more critical when it comes to buildings downtown. Outside of that its totally a bonus to get a tower as long as it doesn’t offend with garish colors or design.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
If only distant endpoints to and from were all that mattered to a train, it wouldn’t be very productive. The stops in between are what build higher usage of the train. To make whatever train cars there are left more productive, is an idea worth pursuing. We don’t even know that the money would affect RTA’s budget at all to do this project.

Akron: Downtown: Bowery Project
I popped into Royal Docks tonight and interrogated the bartenders. They are not opening a brewery in downtown Akron. They are opening in North Canton somewhere. Oakwood square? They did not know anything about the valley brewery either. So the Foeder+kitchen will be open in early June in Stark county not in downtown Akron. Definitely a misunderstanding by the reporter.

^That might even inspire Nestle to move their US HQ there!

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
The point though is this is the redline. Instead of transferring to another train(waterfront) to go to the flats if one is coming from the east or west and really does want to go somewhere in the flats this is very convenient. This might be so convenient that people may choose not to drive and park in the flats which really is the goal.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
Has there been an endpoint identified for the Redline greenway? Might it be the same endpoint as the towpath? I looked for maps and barely saw any that get over the Cuyahoga river. This might be a good tie-in project as the towpath is finishing up. It seems that if other agencies are going to do the main lift on getting grants and it won’t cost them too much to run they might not need a 5 year study to decide if they could put in a stop there.

Akron: Downtown: Bowery Project
There was a Beacon Journal article that was out 6-9 months ago that indicated Royal Docks was interested in opening a nano brewery in the Merriman Valley. They were/are pursuing that with Crave. I don’t know that it was mentioned they were pulling out of Bowery, but it left it open that they were expanding and were more pursuing the Valley. As an aside, interesting to note that Harry Buffalo and this new brewery will be in the potential open container district. The more old school bars of downtown 2 blocks away further down S Main st - Briccos, 69 taps, Brubakers, and 5-6 other bars and clubs that are in various states of shutdown are not part of the plan.

Akron: Downtown: Bowery Project
It sounds like Royal Docks is still part of this project. I thought they had moved on. They are teasing at an opening date around early June.

Cleveland: Nautica Development
I just saw a bunch of 9-10yr old kids that had been on bikes playing impromptu soccer on a qtr sized soccer field next to the hike and bike on Valleyview . Have never seen that little pitch used. There are nets set up for it. So It doesn’t need to be regulation sized soccer field to get people to use it.

Cleveland: Nautica Development
^That seems like a great solution if people are able to park their cars and can drive out going either up or down. The article made it sound like the connection would only be for pedestrians to the viaduct.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
^I was more thinking that he has an active construction site going on in Pittsburgh and he seems to do construction serially.

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Cleveland can’t even close little Market Avenue to pedestrians without creating a huge uproar. I personally thought that was a done deal. I definitely can see what this city can be. I just know what it is which is certainly better than its been in last 60+ years.

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Beautiful pedestrian scenes. I love pedestrian villages but Columbus Rd is a thoroughfare. I would be astounded if that were to change. I could see a pedestrian neighborhood if it was focused around the grain mill ala quaker square of Akron

US Economy: News & Discussion
I was about to say i don’t think gyms will open this year because of the cardio workouts. Take away the cardio and i can see weightlifting being ok to open. Cardio machines pumps the air with people’s breath and that air can sit for hours in a warm moist environment.

US Economy: News & Discussion
I’ll say everything comes back except bulk of the hospitality workforce. That includes passenger aviation, hotels, half of restaurant industry, gyms, salons, casinos, sports, and concert venues. That will likely be until September before any of this gets back to even 50% of previous level and most will be at best 25%.
