  1. It very well could be a trick. "No alcohol beyond this point" doesn't say anything about whether or not alcohol is legal before that point. Dynomite sells beer and wine, so I imagine it's legal. Btw, the GE branding is up.
  2. Yeah, RTA really missed the boat on that one. All other transit systems, either with their new cars or on older-car rehabs like ours, have added scrolling LED signs. And in Cleveland it is especially needed given that RTA's robotic GPS-computer voice station calls don't work half the time, which leaves passengers at the mercy of drivers who either don't make station announcements, mumble when they do or have their sound systems so screwed up you can't decipher them even when they speak clearly. Yeah, I rode a train from the airport to tower city two weeks ago and there wasn't a single stop announcement. The trolleys are just as bad, if not worse. Occasionally the E-line will start announcing stops for the B-Line or L-line. I've had to help out-of-towners a few times who started panicking because they thought they were on the wrong trolley. Hopefully the announcement situation gets better, or they just start adding in scrolling signs.
  3. To what do we owe the honor of this visit? Dazzle the District. Just coming up for the night to see the sights and sounds of the new Playhouse Square, try some of the food, and have a few beers. Well....did you know Star Plaza is one of the rare public places that allows for drinking? You can byob. I'm thought so! I had asked one of the guys at Dynomite the other day and he said no. Guess I know where my summertime hangout will be!
  4. My unit in the Hanna building is about 1400 sqft, which I believe is the max size. Smallest units are 525 sqft. I pay $1550/mo but I think the base rent for some units are as high as $1700 Edit: Sorry, I just realized you only listed one bedroom info. Carry on!
  5. Love the ice skating too! I always thought public square would be a great place for a rink in the winter. Overall I'm okay with this plan, all we need now is to fill in the damn parking lot.
  6. Said recording artist is the pop group Hot Chelle Rae. Here's the itinerary posted on the Dazzle the District Facebook event page.
  7. Based on what I'm paying, it's somewhere around $1.15/sqft in the Hanna building. I wonder if maybe there might be any relevant data in the quarterly DCA reports?
  8. Sounds like he already has a location. In one post he mentions the space will be ~700sqft in Cleveland proper. Wonder where it could be?
  9. I didn't realize that was a Barnes & Noble. I always saw the "university lofts bookstore" sign and just thought it was a CSU bookstore.
  10. Apparently there was another addition I was missing.
  11. Ugh, once again, I made the mistake of looking at the comments. I don't know what I was expecting.
  12. They'll have a string of crystals wrapped around the outside of one of the rings. My reaction at first to most of these improvements have been "meh", but then "wow!" after they each are finished. I trust it'll be the same for the chandelier. Can't wait.
  13. I believe there's supposed to be some signage to identify "star plaza" that isn't there yet. Other than that, I think the only remaining item is the big party!
  14. I drove by yesterday and the span in question seemed to be gone.
  15. Just realized that this tower will probably block my view of the harbor. On the other hand, I should get some good construction shots once we start getting some height.
  16. Was there a story behind that tree?
  17. They choose depending on the number of tickets they expect to sell, the stage dimensions needed for costumes/set pieces, amount of fly space needed, possible stage configurations, available pit space (if there's an orchestra), etc. Shows with many large set pieces (i.e. Wicked) will usually have to go in the State theater because it offers the largest stage and the most fly space. Broadway shows will choose between the state or the palace usually because they can expect to fill 2,800-3,400 seats a night. It's all about the right fit and the economics.
  18. I did the tour in March too with the last group of the day. So thankful that Playhouse Square puts these on. It was a great way to learn about the neighborhood and I suggest it to anyone who hasn't gone. Thanks for sharing!
  19. Thought I'd share another awesome Instagram post from @nomadicanomaly. He managed to sneak in and get a peek at the chandelier.
  20. We'll see a lot more as the weather gets nicer. I was out and about yesterday and saw plenty of people strolling around and watching the construction workers. A lot of CSU students seemed to be hanging around star plaza. The re-opening of Dynomite seemed to draw a crowd too. One thing I do think the square needs is an outdoor restaurant guide. I've been stopped on the street a lot recently by visitors asking where to grab a bite near the theaters. Btw, I stumbled across a better perspective of the chandelier construction on Instagram from user @nomadicanomaly.
  21. If you insist! We have crystal! New sidewalk displays.
  22. So cool to see my building in the NY Times. Thanks for sharing!
  23. Sorry for bombarding everyone with photos. I took a couple more this morning as the chandelier is now on site and being assembled. Couldn't get a good peek because I was in a hurry to make a meeting, but you can sort of see it if you look closely. No, it looked like a fairly bright orange to me. I remember being quite surprised when I saw it. Also, we walked around after dark and the sign was not yet lit. Maybe they're saving that for the big unveil on May 2? I don't think they've installed the bulbs in the retro sign yet. Either way, they've been testing the lights for one night only after they finish, then leaving them off until May 2nd. So we won't see any of the arches/signs fully lit and operational until the unveil.
  24. Looks like the frame for the stylon went up today. Not sure if I'm a fan of that shade of green. We'll see how it looks with the video boards in I guess. Also, a couple pics of the east Euclid arch.
  25. Right. I was in a hurry this morning so I didn't have time to walk down and get a shot from the perspective of someone entering the district. If nobody beats me to it, I'll be sure to do it when I go to chorus rehearsal on Monday to get a more urban-looking view. Also, IIRC there's a new 8 floor apartment building going in to the right of the arch sometime soon. Not the tallest, but should make some impact on the view in this direction. As a bonus, I did take this instagramized shot of the other Euclid arch with the Halle building in the background. I've always loved the Halle buildings facade and IMHO it goes well with the design of the arch.
