I seem to recall this is part of the station project. Right. IIRC they're doing bridge work before building the station and new sidewalks and improved lighting are also in the works.

I just read a post from a local United employee on Facebook saying that the cutbacks are only affecting ExpressJet flights, and that mainline flights and related employees will be unaffected. While there were typically more ExpressJet flights per day than mainline, mainline flights carry more passengers through Hopkins. Not sure how credible this is though. Hopefully another airline can fill the traffic void.

I live across the street. Looking at the street view they had a similar one at one point, but I know it's been down at least since Summer. This new one was installed yesterday.

They've already poured the concrete bases for the support arches and started wiring work. There's no way they're going to turn back now.

Yes! An ACE Hardware or something would be perfect. When I started moving in I was surprised there wasn't already one there. Perfect for people moving in, and realize they forgot simple things like tape measures, hammers, nails, etc.

If this was the first time I've heard of this happening at this bar, I wouldn't be as worried. My concern comes from the fact that, and correct me if I'm wrong, this is the same place where another shooting took place just over a month ago (discussed upthread). I guess it's three points that make a trend, but I'm sure you can understand where my concern comes from.

Is there something that can be done about this place before these shootings become even more of a regular occurrence? I'm moving into the Hanna building this month and this has got me a bit worried.

I think you were right to be excited. The design is great! The only thing I'm unsure of is the orientation of the podium. I almost think it would be better if the tower was closer to the MedMart and the podium was facing Lakeside. However, I'm a software engineer and not an architect, so I'm sure they know what they are doing more than I do.
