  2. This could go many places but I noticed this today. This is the second retail spot next to Al's Diner. Looks like they are a local place out of Mentor. Pretty sweet, downtown is getting the residential amenities it needs. http://www.metrohomeohio.com/ You'll also notice the signs proudly state the 1717 project was fully pre-leased and announces the upcoming Leader project. Props to K&D for the feel good marketing.

Oxford Economics, an independent British advisory firm that specializes in global forecasting, found that cities that make marketing their brands and amenities a high priority see a growth in employment and spending that goes well beyond the tourism industry. And - this probably is no coincidence - others apparently are starting to like us, too. Destination Cleveland, the region's tourism arm, released this week some strong evidence that the city's deep feelings of insecurity and self-loathing may be waning. In a recent survey commissioned by the organization, 54 percent of Greater Clevelanders said they would recommend the city as a travel destination. And if that doesn't seem like a high percentage, consider this: Three years ago, the same question yielded an embarrassingly low 34 percent of residents who said they would suggest Cleveland to would-be visitors.   8. What urban public school district are you using as a reference if you don't mind me asking? The savior thing works in certain areas, particularly ones that may have rough spots but are largely still functional. I see your from Columbus but in Cleveland there are vast neighborhoods and school districts that are so poor, and have been racked with violence, dysfunction, and abandonment for decades that even the most progressive folks with options won't locate there willingly. It sucks but it's a reality.

With the housing pressure building in parts of Cleveland (particularly the near west side), I have heard about some legitimately good charter schools filling the needs of affluent parents unwilling to move to the 'burbs or shell out the bucks for private school. The Charter School clientele is largely self selecting so you don't face some of the problems you get in the default public schools. I don't know that much about Charter Schools but they seem to be the best possible avenue for retaining affluent couples who want kids in the City, Cleveland at least. I have heard the Near West Intergenerational School cited as an example of this. I have heard the names of others but don't remember them. http://www.tisonline.org/nwis/

Home prices up across most of Cleveland, strongest in Edgewater, Tremont, Central, Kamm's Corners CLEVELAND, Ohio - Single-family home prices increased across most of Cleveland last year, with two of the sharpest jumps in the Edgewater area on the West Side side and Central to the East Side. These two areas, and a few other sections of Cleveland, rivaled some suburban locations for pricing.   13. I would have probably just taken Fred Geis's 3.2 million. Using the occupied and cash flowing (the CAC is neither) Leader, Standard, and Halle as comp sales, I'm not sure its worth much over what Geis was going to pay. Keep in mind that that this building has been vacant, has had its tax credits burned off and from what I hear - suffers from a great deal of deferred maintenance. Waring is going to have to eat a serious loss on this property, now it depends on how much. I have a bet with my friend that they pulled todays stunt so they could offer the eventual purchaser a seller financing package with a possible equity stake as a hail mary play to recoup some of the costs.

Cleveland Athletic Club Building fetches $3.3 million bid from lender at foreclosure auction CLEVELAND, Ohio - Two of downtown's busiest developers showed up Monday to vie for the empty Cleveland Athletic Club Building at a public foreclosure auction. But, after hours of waiting and a short spate of bidding, a lender proffered the winning amount - $3.3 million. Now Waring Investments, Inc., a New Jersey mortgage-holder on the property, has 30 days to close the deal. The question is whether Waring actually will take title to the Euclid Avenue landmark, which has languished since the Cleveland Athletic Club closed in late 2007. That’s down a bit from 15.23 percent at the end of 2013, and makes this sector the strongest of all the office submarkets in the Cleveland area. A big boon to the area has been the Ernst & Young Tower in the Flats East Bank neighborhood. As NAI Daus reports, a flow of tenants has moved to this new office tower. This has provided opportunities for tenants currently in Class-B office buildings to upgrade to more efficient and higher-quality space. An important trend in the CBD office market is the continuing conversion of obsolete Class-B and -C office buildings to apartment buildings. Like many Midwest markets, Cleveland has seen its downtown core become a hotspot for those who want to rent in walkable neighborhoods. Public Square makeover hits $32 million budget with deal between Cuyahoga County, Rock Ohio Caesars and Cleveland The county expects to issue bonds that will yield roughly $7.5 million for construction. That debt will be repaid using money that otherwise could have flowed to Rock, to fund improvements at the company's historic Higbee Building that houses the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland.....Now Rock has agreed to give up its access to that money, which will be redirected to pay off Public Square debt - making a bond deal possible.
