Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
This sounds like a hipster's wet dream Cleveland man reopens Edgewater Cafe -- a time-capsule of a bar that looks just like it did in 1996 (photo gallery) CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Authentic. Real. Vintage. New bars kill to have that kind of rep. The Edgewater Cafe doesn't have to. The joint -- West 50th Street and Detroit Avenue, Cleveland -- looks like nothing has changed there in decades, well, because it hasn't. I really like this quote: "I had to do that – you couldn't watch a Browns game on that old TV we had," he said. "You know, the neighborhood is getting better here, and it's good to have some changes." http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2014/09/cleveland_man_reopens_edgewate.html#incart_river

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
On the 2nd page of the Jones Lang LaSalle report, where the analysis is broken up by CBD districts - there is 220,000 sqft under construction/renovation in the financial district. Any idea what that is?

Cleveland: Population Trends
You're correct but for some reason, the nickname "The Sixth City" stuck and was adopted by many local businesses and the public at large during the former half of the 20th century. Obviously being "The Fifth City" would be slightly more impressive but "The Sixth City" has a certain ring to it - don't ya think?

thats a link to pintrest. Where is the article? Here's a recording of the broadcast: https://soundcloud.com/alternate-routes/episode-1-why-young-people-are-moving-back-to-cleveland *Note: Above anything else, I wish people would realize how useless population statistics by municipal boundary are. The "2nd largest City in Ohio" doesn't mean anything.

Spaces announces lease deal is off with developer Michael Chesler on a building in Ohio City CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Spaces, the nonprofit West Side gallery looking for a new home, won't be moving as planned to Ohio City's Hingetown area in the near future. John Farina, president of the gallery's board, said late Monday the gallery would let a lease option lapse this month with developer Michael Chesler on a one-story industrial building he owns at the southeast corner of West 29th Street and Detroit Avenue. The gallery had hoped to sign a lease with Chesler in October on the 14,000-square-foot brick building, which stands catty corner to the newly established Transformer Station Gallery and near other cultural anchors including ICA Art Conservation and the BopStop jazz club, recently acquired by University Circle's Music Settlement as a West Side satellite. http://www.cleveland.com/arts/index.ssf/2014/09/spaces_announces_lease_deal_is.html#incart_river

Walking down Euclid Ave this morning, I noticed that the crews have removed what looks like an entire wall on the 7th floor's western facade. Funky.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Before this gets out of hand, I just want to direct everyone's attention to the the title of this thread. Hopefully we can remember that this topic was created with the understanding, from the outset, that these lists/advertorials/booster-pages are dumb and mean nothing. And that cuts both ways - whether your city makes the list or not.

Cleveland: Immigration News & Discussion
Here is link to Richie Piiparinen's prezi presentation titled "Growing Pains." I didn't see him present it but the content on the slides suggests it focuses on Cleveland's continuing economic restructuring and the importance of in-migration to the region. Overall, good stuff. http://prezi.com/scqsb7p9kkhu/growing-pains/ *This was taken from his twitter.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Cleveland Heights posts crime stats on city website CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Cleveland Heights Police Department now posts crime stats online. The number of murders, robberies, assaults and other crimes dating back to 2011 went live Monday. There is no cost to the city to publish the information, also known as the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports. "People are reading the newspaper and hearing this and hearing that and I want them to know exactly what's going on in the city," Chief Jeffrey Robertson said. "I want them to be able to ask questions and I want to be able to tell them what's going on –- good and bad." http://www.cleveland.com/cleveland-heights/index.ssf/2014/09/cleveland_heights_posts_crime.html Link to statistics here: http://www.clevelandheights.com/index.aspx?page=1683

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
So this is not fresh news but it looks like the Avenue District parcels have formally transferred to [subsidiaries of] Weston. On September 12, 2014, 102-06-047 and 102-06-004 transferred to ST. CLAIR PARKING LOTS, LLC for $1,000,000. This transfer price is consistent with the Crain's article from July.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
Ok, so this one I did find on my own. 737 BOLIVAR RD (101-29-033) transferred on on September 12, 2014 for $2,400,000 to a LOOKOUT REALTY GROUP LLC. Here is the building: So...who is this LOOKOUT REALTY GROUP LLC? A business search at the Ohio Secretary of State's website shows that their articles of incorporation were filed on 6/25/2014. http://www2.sos.state.oh.us/pls/bsqry/f?p=100:7:0::NO:7:P7_CHARTER_NUM:2306280 As expected, the details to be found within the filings are scant. The only names listed on the filings happen to be attorneys at Hahn Loeser. Apparently, the owner was marketing 5,300 sqft of office space for lease on the 3rd floor and 7,200 sqft on the 4th floor. You can see some pictures of the interior here: http://www.thesquarefoot.com/listings/oh/cleveland/44115/downtown-dallas/737-bolivar-road/148068

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Thanks KJP but in the interest of full disclosure - it was Michelle who scooped me. I ran into her at the City Planning Commission meeting this morning and we talked for awhile. She mentioned that the sale was supposed to close on the 18th. I immediately went home and checked and she was correct. No matter how good I think I am, I will always be a step behind her.

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
Delayed Kimpton Hotel set to open downtown (Cleveland) in 2015 By JAY MILLER Published:September 2014 The developer of the Schofield Building in the heart of downtown Cleveland has set a mid-2015 opening for the Kimpton Hotel and apartments under construction in the historic building. While that's not the firmest of opening announcements, it's a positive sign for a project that has had a rocky history. It has been a victim of a difficult hotel lending environment that remains cautious after the market collapse and decline in hotel occupancy that followed the Great Recession. http://www.hladvisors.com/blog/blog-details/blog/2014/09/17/delayed-kimpton-hotel-set-to-open-downtown-(cleveland)-in-2015
