  1. I do understand the cost effective approach to the HQ, But.......I still think it would be a squandered opportunity to have a truly iconic HQ. How much of a group decision is this project? Is there a panel of people that will make the decision on how this project plays out, or is there a final single person that gives the stamp of approval? Will the resignation of the COO have any impact on this project? Could he have had a large impact on what was being built or is it a panel reminiscent from the movie Trading Places that is making the decisions? I am hoping that there are alternate plans that are being worked up that may be more pleasing and functional to the surrounding urban landscape which could possibly be still an option.
  2. Interesting article in Cleveland.com today, I'm not completely sure about the rules of posting articles so I will leave it to those that know...
  3. I know I'm in the minority on this...but I would gladly take the original Jenga tower. It had nice height and it was definitely different for Cleveland.
  4. While I would like to see more height, which a possibility of a hotel in the mix COULD do. I would think that if there were to be a hotel in the mix it would have its own footprint in the "future development" area of the acquired property. Not that I would prefer that, I just think SW would...
  5. This will teach me not to read the flurry of responses at 4am. Disappointing to say the least. I get that SW is security minded, but why not make it street level useful? Street level doesn't have to mean any activity takes place inside the lobby, they could have multiple storefronts/restaurants/bodegas that could only be accessed from the sidewalk. This sounds like straight up anti urban streetscape. SW...this is your home city, this is your WORLD HQ...making a statement isn't arrogance, it's PRIDE! From everything that has been mentioned in this thread about the project...I can't stand what I am hearing. And YABO, I definitely want to keep Mayfield!!! 😁
  6. My point wasn't to build in a black neighborhood, my point was if they were dead set on building in EC, why displace more people when you have a block of bombed out wasteland that needs to be removed.
  7. If you want to build in E. Cleveland, how about tearing down the unsavable structures on Chapman Ave. and building there?
  8. ^ When I looked at the link, I really like the way this project looks. What really caught my eye, however, is how the developer replaced the brown water with the nice blue water in the river!
  9. I think that this plan (purported) so far is like being gut punched by my 10 year old. It isn't making me cry, but it did make me pause and my gut wrenched a little. Thank you for staying SW, but c'mon, you can do better than this! At the very least, put the paint museum on the super block and the HQ on the square. The (yawn) paint museum height would seem to blend in better with the warehouse district buildings. Going from an "iconic" tower to this (with everything in between) has been a bit of a let down. Looking at basically a copy and paste of BOK (HQ and museum) is a real let down. This has to be the easiest project (and easiest money) for Pickard Chilton in recent memory...copy, paste and tweak. I am hoping I will eat crow on this, and I gladly will. I will wait to see the renders and massing before I send my email of disappointment to SW. It seems like downtown got a cake, but Brecksville is getting the icing.
  10. I read the article this morning about the casino, glossing over the many points about the DT casino as well as others across the State, the article stated that the Phase 2 casino is not happening.
  11. Okay, this one caught me off guard since my head has been wrapped up in the Sherwin Williams downtown project! Who will be the bold one and come up with some possible renders? (maybe Geo)
  12. This reminds me of the "Big Dig" in Boston...I like it!
  13. I'm waiting (hoping) for KJP to drop the next article saying that the Sherwin Williams main tower may only be 27 floors, but the base hotel that it is being built upon will be 20 floors!
  14. Will the city review board have any say in this or will they take "we are just glad to have something" approach?
  15. So why all the core sampling/drilling when these buildings won't need caissons? If this weren't on public square, and if weren't the whale company to build an iconic building, I would be happy with this project. Unfortunately, it IS public square and it IS the only company I can see in my lifetime that could have built something iconic (and tall). When it was reported that the new tower would rival Key tower, I was very excited...I'm not sure how this rival's Key. I am torn...sort of like trying to be happy the Browns made the playoffs, only to have half of the team infected with covid...
  16. I would love to see the Geis condos on E.9th, Lumen II, and the residential hi-rise in the warehouse district ( I forget the name, but I believe that this was never going to happen anyway) take advantage of this program.
  17. I wasn't sure where to post this, it was written by a friend of mine on the CFD (I work there as well) http://www.clevelandareahistory.com/2010/07/guest-post-fire-station-26.html?m=1&fbclid=IwAR0BhHN8xxD1PAFeH6EGcboBu6NVDl03EZjrVrO8y2-hkfhBZlkl81X0bKk
  18. Or taller... 😉
  19. So do you visualize this as a street level rail line, elevated rail or underground? Option 2 or 3 appeal to me the most. I can hear the anti rail people already complaining about the cost, low ridership, etc etc. I don't see this as a "build it and they will come", I see it as more of a build it because they ARE coming!
  20. Did that rendering sneak nuCLEus in, behind the scoreboard view?
  21. Great looking video and Intro looks good as well! ? Seriously though, those are some great shots and this thing seems to be moving along quite nicely. When my fire truck makes the turn from 117th onto Lorain East, I can clearly see the crane...it will be nice when I can see the building itself.
  22. I don't like the concerns about "blocked sight lines"...that argument could kill all kinds of projects if it were valid. In urban development, something bigger and taller could always pop up next door.
  23. We had to go into Geiger's tonight to shut the alarm off... The place was completely cleaned out
