Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Noticed today that Blue Edge small-box at the SE corner of W6th and St. Clair was vacated. Hopefully this is a sign of a Q1 2016 groundbreaking...

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
And I'm tired of hearing that Public Square was walkable before its redo.... As someone who walks from the Warehouse District to E4th, Playhouse Square, etc, I can vouch that the square is way more walkable now than in its prior configuration. I usually don't have to stop to cross the stub ends of Ontario and Superior now as traffic has been reduced, so it saves me some time.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
There are also vacant retail floor spaces in the first floor of the Renaissance Hotel facing Public Square and Superior. The new owner recently stated an intent to fill those spaces...

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Wasn't there an event pre-scheduled in Cincinnati for the last announcement of credits for the Music Hall? Good sign that either 925 or May Co. earned the credits... Edit: Michelle does say that in the article, my bad for not clicking through!

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
The Indians didn't give renderings but had talked about installing a standing-room area as an extension of the Home Run Porch... No corner left field bar. I wonder what this next set of renovations will reduce ballpark capacity to (went from 43k to 37k last year)? I doubt season ticket demand is through the roof to watch an Opening Day outfield of Lonnie Chisenhall, Abraham Almonte, and Collin Cowgill...

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
^Disappointed GE's not running all lighting-related units out of Nela Park. Their campus has some vacant buildings as the number of employees at Nela Park has shrunk in half since the 1990s. LED's are a game-changer in the lighting industry but have been disruptive to GE Lighting's business model.

Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
http://www.clevelandmagazine.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=E73ABD6180B44874871A91F6BA5C249C&nm=&type=Publishing&mod=Publications::Article&mid=1578600D80804596A222593669321019&tier=4&id=439A919E784942138D7EDAC51560334E CLE Magazine has a brief piece on Duck Island developments... One new piece of info I haven't seen elsewhere is "Duck Island resident Matt Berges owns 1.7 acres in the neighborhood. Along with his partners, Berges has plans for 60 housing units near West 18th and 19th streets, the first large-scale residential project since the 1900s." Is this referring to the large swath of land at the NW corner of Abbey Ave and W19th? A couple random structures were demolished to clear that site earlier this year. The map left off the McNulty townhouses, the townhouse cluster above by the Animal Clinic, and I'm sure a few other small projects. Also, looks like the Duck Rabbit Coffee is targeting a December opening, and Forest City Brewery a February one.

Parma: Development and News
Parmatown to be replaced by a giant strip mall with plenty of parking! Parma seems like such a visionary place... http://www.cleveland.com/parma/index.ssf/2015/12/the_end_of_an_era_parmatown_ma.html#comments

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
From my limited construction management knowledge, this Weston project is far ahead of NuCLEus at announcement in late 2014 as an architect and construction manager are both already selected. NuCLEus didn't soil sample until spring 2015 if I recall correctly. Weston Phase 1 is more of a residential focused project with limited neighborhood retail space whereas NuCLEus contains hotel, office, retail, and residential components.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/the-growing-pains-of-clevelands-newest-westside-neighborhood/Content?oid=4670345&showFullText=true Very interesting article about Hingetown development and some sentiment from existing residents that gentrification of the neighborhood is bad (even though Cleveland is a long, long way off from having a San Francisco situation...). I remember partaking in a walking tour of Hingetown when I interned at an Ohio City social services organization in summer 2012, and the change in three years is strikingly good. A couple quotes popped out. One from a Lakeview Towers subsidized housing resident: "I love where I live," she said, speaking with conviction. "I live in Lakeview Towers and I've got a view of the lake. I love my apartment. I love it. I appreciate what people are trying to do to improve the neighborhood. People are talking about affordable units, but how many people do we have down in Lakeview? 1,500? We got plenty of affordable housing all around here. We going to be here. All y'all are gonna be gone and we're still gonna be here. We want to see this whole area improve. And if they're gonna do that, they've got to make money." The other from Graham Vesey: "I think the city has a lot of work still to do to understand what it takes to be a 21st-century urban area, and I think that the mayor's emphasis on being equitable is admirable. I don't know, but sometimes I get the impression it's a zero-sum game mentality, that if something's happening in one part of the city, it's taking away from another. The truth is we, as a city, can prosper in many parts. And we should celebrate all those points of progression." I hope we will see the zero-sum game mentality erode as we see multiple parts of the city succeed at once... But I find it strange how many older Clevelanders still have that mentality.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
There goes my diagonal shortcut across the parking lot walking to Heinen's... Just kidding, fantastic news from a national developer with reputable financing! Turns out there was more to the bore sample trucks this summer than previously thought. As usual, Michelle with the scoop!

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
Don't ask that question to my civil engineering friend who works night shifts on the project haha... It's a massive undertaking, and construction is still on schedule. Also, the nighttime views of the LED lit bridge from the Tremont overlook are spectacular now. Someone with a better camera than the one on my iPhone should capture them!

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
Joe Cimperman's tweet this morning: "2 dynamic projects discussed today @ohiocitytweets @DowntownCLE let's go #maycompany let's go @PeterSnavely " https://twitter.com/joecimperman/status/666599096828960768 From his attached picture: "Authorizing the Commissioner of Purchases and Supplies to acquire and re-convey properties presently owned by Euclid of Cleveland, LLC, or its designee, located at 200 Euclid Avenue for the purpose of entering into the chain-of-title prior to the adoption of tax increment financing legislation authorized under Section 5709.41 of the Revised Code; and authorizing an agreement with Euclid of Cleveland, LLC, or its designee." Is this in preparation for the announcement of the catalytic tax credit, or does this project in its present form have another way forward without that $25mil award?

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
Wow even Newsnet5 beat the Plain Dealer to the punch on RTA fare hike: http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/cleveland-metro/greater-cleveland-regional-transit-authority-considers-rate-hike On a side note, does anyone know how far the Plain Dealer's circulation numbers have fallen since they reduced delivery to four times per week? When I moved back to the area, I took up a 10 week promotional trial subscription but cancelled afterwards, since everything in print can be found on their website for free. And I thought the quality of articles was lacking outside of a handful of writers (Litt, Michelle, and others).

Cleveland: Downtown: The Centennial (925 Euclid Redevelopment)
Just noted that this year's Downtown Cleveland Alliance Winter Wine & Ale Fest will be held here on Saturday, November 28 following the conclusion of WinterFest in Playhouse Square. In past years, they used 200 Public Square for the event. I cannot make it unfortunately, but if anyone else goes, feel free to snap pictures of the lobby! http://www.downtowncleveland.com/events/winter-wine-ale-fest.aspx

Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
IIRC, these are the townhouses the Duck Island block club neighbors were trying to stop for "adding too much density" to the neighborhood. If this made it to city planning, did the developers get past those objections?
-
Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
As someone who runs in this area, I found it odd that the pathway along the river in Settlers' Landing Park does not connect to that in the small park under the Detroit-Superior Bridge next to the Center Street bridge. I did not know one of those buildings in between is a pumping station. Who owns the other abandoned building between those two parks?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Those areas of downtown are loaded with cameras. Hopefully they catch the perpetrator similar to how they caught the drunk vandals of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I'm going to the airport from downtown later today and was going to take the rapid but saw that the tracks between Puritas and Airport stops are closed until November 6 and replaced by buses. Does anyone know how much time the buses add to the trip?

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Someone else who remembers what was said at the DCA Q3 update meeting can chime in if they have better recall, but it was announced that FEB has LOI's for the Toby Keith building and a small space next to the Big Bang piano bar. It sounded like they're targeting breaking ground for Phase 3 next June/July but still have work to do with financing.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
I arrived later at the Q3 market update meeting, so I may have missed the nuCLEus tip. Did they mention if it was an office or retail/restaurant tenant?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
https://www.facebook.com/clevelandcom?fref=nf Of course, the Cleveland.com Facebook page asks "Do the recent downtown shootings have you on edge?" with a link to the Langston shooting article. Has the PD/NEOMG officially reached tabloid level journalism yet?
-
Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Prior to the Langston apartments being built, it would have just been a shootout around an abandoned parking lot at 240am and may have gone unreported. Unfortunately, E24th makes for a perfect and easy getaway spot. Hopefully there are cameras in that area now.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
"Xclusive". In a way, it's a backhanded compliment to downtown's recent success, that these sorts of places aren't moving into cheaper quarters further out. And yes, full pat down security only means they leave their weapons in their cars. The "urban" clientele can be lucrative for clubs as long as they know it's a short term deal. To call them "problem customers" is an understatement. Unfortunately, in a case like this downtown faces the same issues as changing suburbs: how do you keep the problems out with being perceived as up to something else? Any information as to whether The Bank nightclub can/will be shut down? I'm sure Cimperman is being pressured by businesses/residents in the vicinity. My friends in other parts of downtown and I are talking about avoiding that area past 11pm on weekends as long as that club is open.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
A dental office (I think Aura Smile?) just opened on the ground floor of the Hilliard Building a couple weeks ago. I had no idea it was one of the oldest downtown buildings.
