  1. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2015/09/29/flats-based-beerhead-nee-beer-cellars-primed-for-first-keg-tapping-this-week Interesting quote from Beerhead owner in the Flats East Bank regarding Beer Cellars failure in Uptown: “We put together a beautiful store there and we got a lot of high remarks from the customers we had, but the business wasn’t there so we decided to move on to another location,” he says. “There was an effort by the developer to try and create another entertainment district in Cleveland and the city wasn’t ready for it. It’s still kind of a lackluster area that doesn’t have the draw that other areas in Cleveland have.” I've been to Uptown area multiple times for the Corner Alley, Dynomite Burgers and Sushi, and Mitchell's, and I wouldn't call the area lackluster. It seems to be a hit with Case students and area hospital workers. Instead, their decision to only serve beer without food was probably a larger factor in causing its demise. World of Beer across from Melt in Lakewood also lacked a food menu and failed.
  2. It's rather disturbing to walk on Euclid on Friday/Saturday evenings and see people lined up at the Bank getting full pat downs before they walk in. It seems when one troublesome club is shut down, another one pops up. IIRC, there was a similar shooting outside a night club by 55 Public Square in summer 2013. The Bank opened last year during the Gay Games. Another one to watch is Cest La Vie on 9th and Walnut... Did the same May Co bldg owners that whined about not getting $25 mil tax credit lease this space to the Bank? Who approves/oversees this?
  3. I just met a married couple today that is personal friends of Jack Del Rio, the Oakland Raiders head coach, and traveled to Cleveland for this weekend's Browns game. Apparently, when the NFL schedule was released in April, the Raiders were unable to secure a block of rooms in a downtown Cleveland hotel and are staying at the Doubletree in Beachwood! They told me Jack was not pleased as the Raiders are staying in downtowns of cities for their seven remaining road games. It seemed rather odd as there aren't any major events at the Q or Progressive Field this weekend or large conferences that I'm aware of. Perhaps there were a surge in weddings for this weekend?
  4. No article. Leasing office is updating tenants' paperwork as needed. When asked why, the leasing office said Tower City is being sold. When one tenant inquired further, the leasing office said the buyer's name was "Rasen Investment & Parking." When I heard it, I thought the person said "Raisin" but nothing showed up on a Google search. Rasen appears to be the most likely spelling of all the options I tried. I am surprised the PD hasn't heard about since they are a tenant -- but either their paperwork didn't need updating/refining or they are actually a tenant of the Skylight Office Tower which Hertz is seeking to buy. Yes, Plain Dealer's office spaces are in the Skylight Tower, which is being sold to a different buyer.
  5. I thought there's a shop called Whiskey Grade that recently opened in the ground floor of this building. Not sure what's upstairs?

While Goldhammer is annoying, he would at least fact check Rizzo on the Really Big Show. Now, Tony just makes stuff up, and his lack of preparation is evident. It is humorous to hear Jerod Cherry attempt to talk NBA or MLB, and mostly he falls back on his three Super Bowl rings. The show is unlistenable for more than a few minutes. At least there are some great podcasts (WFNY comes to mind) out there for Cleveland sports fans.
  7. I just noticed that Pizza Rock is no longer included in the leasing plans. Also, does anyone know if/when they would break ground on the proposed office building?
  8. I live in the city, but I am also currently avoiding Tremont until they clean that up. I don't need to leave my neighborhood..the experience is just as good Although these are isolated incidents, I too know people who now avoiding Tremont. Perception is everything. Same, and I am even having second thoughts about going out in Tremont at night even though I'm a fan of the neighborhood. Crime can happen anywhere, but the disturbing part here is the police not catching the suspects further emboldening other criminals to commit copycat robberies. Since there are only six or seven roads that lead to the core area of Tremont, you think it would be easier to snag criminals.
  9. Cimperman claims they have beefed up resources including using bait cars and undercover cops in Tremont. I wonder how many more weeks of multiple armed robberies have to occur before property values and development take a hit in Tremont.
  10. http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/cleveland-metro/clevelands-ohio-city-neighborhood-fights-re-zoning-on-multi-family-projects Wow, disturbing to see that some Ohio City residents don't realize that more residents/density correlates to more security and neighborhood amenities...
  11. http://www.starkenterprises.com/properties/515-euclid-complex/ Just was searching Nucleus for any recent news and found this page on Stark's website about adding 200 apartments on top of the 515 Euclid parking garage. Is there another thread for that garage?
  12. ^^ I was originally worried about the narrowness of the stairwell from the photos as well, but I happened to board the rapid Saturday morning of the Feast with the entire Case Western football team (about 100 players/coaches) at Tower City. They also got off at Little Italy, and there was no back-up or bottleneck on the stairwell. I overheard some of the players discussing how the rapid is the quickest way downtown from Case.
  13. http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/cleveland/2015/08/21/flats-east-bank-phase-three/32162983/ WKYC interviewed Scott Wolstein, who shared some details about FEB I haven't seen elsewhere. Among them are: - Phase Three could break ground in fall 2015 or early 2016, and will include restaurant/retail tenants currently on a waiting list for space. - Wolstein hopes the site will contain upwards of 1,000 residential units (243 currently in Phase 2). - As many as four additional vertical structures could be built on the project site.
  14. Jacobs owns Worthington Square and 425 Lakeside apartments in the Warehouse District. I remember something from Crain's a year ago about them listing both properties for sale. Not sure if they found a buyer yet. The only cheaper complex in the Warehouse District on a PSF basis right now is probably Crittenden (National Terminal is rebranding and raising rents).
  15. Hours after the Wednesday carjacking in Tremont... http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2015/08/21/a-reader-tells-us-about-being-mugged-at-gunpoint-thursday-morning-in-tremont
  16. Wow these seem to be at least a weekly occurrence this summer. I can't recall ever reading about carjackings in the core area of Tremont prior to this year. Criminals aren't being caught quickly, so the floodgates have opened. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/08/man_robbed_of_sneakers_porsche.html#incart_river
  17. Does anyone know how the leasing for the Flats East Bank apartments is going? The rents range from from $2-2.25 PSF, which is pushing a new price high for downtown Cleveland. I'm sure the views/apartment amenities are nice, but the whole area seems rather isolated from the rest of downtown for that kind of money. I pay roughly half that for a 2BR in the Warehouse District, and my roommate and I prefer the convenience of living across the street from Constantino's and walking distance from Heinen's among other services/bars/restaurants.
  18. They have an Instagram account (cestlavie216) that advertised their opening as Donte Whitner's birthday party on July 25. It looks like they're trying to be an upscale, hip-hop night club (maybe similar to "the Bank" in the May Co. building)??
  19. http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/oh-cuyahoga/tremont-man-pistol-whipped-carjacked-outside-of-home Another car jacking in Tremont? Considering the neighborhood has only 7k people from the last census, there seems to have been a high rate of violent crimes this summer.
  20. Joe Cimperman tweeted a link earlier today about an initiative to raise $30k for safety cameras in Ohio City. They weren't specific as to where the cameras would be placed only saying that they would be accompanied by signage. Thoughts? https://www.razoo.com/story/Ohio-City-Safety-Camera-Initiative
  21. http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/cleveland/2015/08/03/cleveland-crime-rates-2015/31083821/ WKYC has a brief report on downtown crime with a few statistics thrown in. Seems like robberies and assaults are almost even with last year, and an increase would be expected given the larger crowds downtown for the Cavs playoff run. However, I wish CPD would assign additional officers to walk the downtown beat or patrol by bicycle, so they have a more visible presence vs being in cars.
  22. Sunday's Warehouse District Festival and Friday's Night Market both felt very safe. But there were a noticeable number of muscle cars speeding around downtown with Puerto Rican flags and passengers sticking out the windows. It would be nice to see downtown crime stats reported to give context to the issue.
  23. Horrible weekend for downtown crime. There was also a shooting outside the Tilted Kilt at 11 pm Saturday night. While that seemed gang related, a stray bullet could have easily struck passer-bys or patrons in outdoor patios along Prospect. What's more disconcerting is that no suspects were arrested on scene which only further emboldens criminals. Also, the lack of well lit streets (a number of street lights around Public Square during construction have been out) and lack of cops on foot or bicycle patrol downtown are huge concerns. My downtown roommate from DC is thinking about moving to Lakewood after our lease is up.
  24. While riding my bike a week ago past by Lorain and W20th, I noticed that a couple more houses were being demolished on the north side of Lorain where the Brickhaus apartments/condos were proposed. Does the developer now have full site control now, and is he close to breaking ground? My friend was looking at buying a condo nearby and was wondering about that large vacant parcel.
  25. Engage Cleveland is holding a party at Innova apartments in early August. Seems to double as advertising for living at Innova. I can't figure out how this project was funded before Intesa? The latter's site has better proximity to Uptown/Little Italy/Case. Plus, the CC/Case med school across the street from Innova will not be ready until Fall 2017.
