The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Don't believe this has been posted yet. The new Little Italy Red Line station should be very busy that week. 15 Things to do in Cleveland at the 2016 Republican National Convention Today the Republican National Committee recommended Cleveland as the site for the 2016 Republican National Convention. Cleveland was chosen over Dallas as the convention’s host city in what was described by RNC Chairman Reince Priebus as a “business decision” for the GOP. As is the case every four years, the convention is expected to bring an increase in tourism — and an influx of cash — to the host city. ABC News compiled a list of some of the top places to visit in the Ohio city that’s known as the “Rock and Roll Capital of the World”: 1. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Located in downtown Cleveland, the hall of fame features the “greatest stories and biggest names in rock and roll.” According to the museum’s website: “The experience includes 4 theaters, multiple interactive stations and 7 floors of exhibits that tell the story of the world’s most powerful art form.” 2. Little Italy: Experience Cleveland’s Italian-American heritage—”known for its Art Galleries and the finest Italian cuisine,” Little Italy’s website says it’s where “Thousands of visitors and loyal patrons come to dine, shop and be entertained.” 3. Cleveland Museum of Art: The museum’s houses paintings and sculptures from all over the world. Described as “one of the world’s most distinguished comprehensive art museums and one of northeastern Ohio’s principal civic and cultural institutions,” this is certainly not an attraction to be missed. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2014/07/15-things-to-do-in-cleveland-at-the-2016-republican-national-convention/

Im not a huge fan of the look of the windows from the interior. Should provide a lot of natural light though which is nice. Also looks like they went with carpet which is different than most apartments downtown.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^ They will probably use that week to renovate all of the Red Line cars and run one car trains instead  Or ODOT might have to shut the rail lines down for construction!

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
From what I have heard, the city encouraged the clinic to sprawl out as much as possible because the city wanted the clinic to clean up a lot of blighted land and make Euclid Avenue look nicer for a longer stretch.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I can't believe you guys don't support a women's right to not get harassed while walking through the square! Seriously though, besides the things that males hate about the culture/actions in the square, its even worse for women. Its not overblown for those of us who have a wife, girlfriend, daughter, or close female friend that consistently has bad experiences in Public Square to the point that they avoid it when possible. A women shouldn't have to walk out of her way to avoid what some would call the heart of the city. Edit: The public square healthline station is the worst on the entire route.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Well there aren't really any websites that would have people talking about it. You also get this... Teen victim speaks out about violence on Public Square "19 Action News captures video of police breaking up more fights on Cleveland's Public Square exposing an ongoing problem. In fact, on Monday, a 17-year-old boy says he was knocked unconscious for no reason while waiting for a bus on the square. Privately, officers say they break up fights and crowds of violent teens on a regular basis. Usually, the teens go after other teens after school. Many kids switch buses and trains at Public Square and Tower City." http://www.19actionnews.com/story/24465882/teen-victim-speaks-out-about-violence-on-public-square

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Currently the Warehouse District feels like an island, completely disconnected from the rest of downtown by giant parking lots. The connection development would create would be amazing.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Not really related to this current discussion, but I feel like for some reason every time Cleveland Heights has a crime committed Shaker Heights is somehow dragged into the discussion of Cleveland Heights going downhill. Anyone who spends anytime in the Heights clearly knows Cleveland Heights is still a great place and their popular commercial districts and surrounding residential areas are still doing great. But I do notice that when another crime story is written on Cleveland.com, commenters, even on UO, somehow drag Shaker Heights into it.

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
11430 and 11426 Fairchild both have their siding removed. Is that something done in preparation for demolition? CWRU owns nearly every house/lot in the Glenwood/Fairchild area. Would be nice to see that entire area, including the parking lot, be redeveloped.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
The southwest quadrant is a perfect example of how clustering bus stops usually ends up creating a negative public space. It creates a crowd that often gets loud and disrespectful to its surroundings. You don't have these issues or anything like this happening at any of the other bus stops throughout the city (which are usually quite calm). There are several other areas in downtown that have several bus stops but without the issues, like West Prospect where stops are slightly spread out so crowds remain limited/divided.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Honest question, how many parking lots do they own compared to buildings?
-
Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
^ Exactly. The square should be place to enjoy, not a crowded bus stop. And I feel like we play this whole "what do you mean??? (insinuating racism)" game atleast one a day on here.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Closing Superior and extending those smaller tree lined paths would be perfect.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
You're proving my point. You are presenting a Cleveland-type argument against using the trains that you hear less of elsewhere with rapid rail. Note also that, during rush hour, West Side Red Line trains into downtown leave about every 7-8 minutes. Not much of a wait. And Cleveland offers relatively cheap fares and free parking, which many systems (like the DC Metro, among others, do not). Btw, I do know of people in Strongsville who drive in to Brookpark and take the Rapid downtown everyday. But the mentality you are espousing is typical here. People go out of their way not to ride the rails... The good news is, that seems to be changing for the better. You ignored the point that RTA doesn't make sense for many couples or families traveling downtown. I was originally responding to your post about the Flats East Bank and your comments about people not taking the train there. Obviously there will be and are people who take the train from a lot of places where its not necessarily convenient, but id argue that your point is actually reversed. People go out of their way TO ride the rails... atleast some of them. My point is that the rail system doesn't reach enough people. Our rail ridership isn't at the bottom just because our citizens choose to bypass convenient rail, as you imply. Our ridership is at the bottom because it doesn't reach the areas where people live and where they want to go. RTA still has decently expensive fares and a lack of options for families which makes the price skyrocket, therefore also tilting families towards cars even if a convenient station is present. Im not anti rail at all btw. Im actually the opposite. But I think expansion and rerouting is the only way to build a truly successful rail system, as well as one that doesn't rely solely on park and ride stations. Edit: Just to clear things up, Im not saying the entire system is terrible, Im just saying it has a lot of flaws and is far from where it should/could be.
