I assume most of the demolition on those blocks was done in anticipation of building Gateway? Or is that just how it came to be over the years?
  2. RTA has hired Sean Thompson, previously in charge of WMATA oversight at FTA, as Director of Rail Operations http://www.riderta.com/news/oct-27-2016-new-rail-director-joins-rta-fta
  3. In the last couple years, we've lost PJ'a, the Huron Square Deli, Sammy's, and now Addy's. We no longer have any old diners/lunch counter places left in downtown Cleveland.
  4. I don't know anyone here that is an RTA apologist. But not everything RTA does is suspect or malicious. Yes, we should hold their feet to the fire, but also should recognize that they are often doing the best that they can.
  5. ^ Yes, KJP and I have both been very vocal about the need for RTA to communicate information about shut downs in a better way-- often citing Toronto as a good example to follow.

^ And if we lose to the Cubs, then we move to 1st place...in the team with the longest World Series drought
  7. ^ Flats East Bank would be a pretty bad location for a Target, imo. Too far removed from the majority of downtown households

^ Great pics. I'm visiting Detroit right now. It's amazing how fast the construction has been going on the Little Caesars arena and I suspect that Brush Park will look very different next time I come back here. Lots of good things happening, but there's still a long long way to go.
  9. Completely agree. The request has been sent to the city's traffic engineering department
  10. I find it ironic how RTA spent a considerable amount of money to to put up replacement bus signs along the rail stops, but they CAN'T EVEN USE A FREAKING PRINTER TO PRINT SIGNS AT THEIR STATIONS! This is the only sign in the entirety of Tower City that I saw that indicates the east side rail is shut down this weekend.
  11. Honest question, if RTA didn't have those temporary bus replacement station signs, would you be complaining that RTA should have better signage for riders when the rail system is shut down?
  12. ODOT construction on the east bound Innerbelt Bridge above the tracks Edit: Source, from Ginger Christ http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2016/09/rta_buses_to_replace_trains_on.html

Do you mean for downtown/flats? They only meet the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, and this week is the 5th

It's a slow moving process. The current Plaza that is there is doing quite well, despite it's awful design. There's little incentive for the owner to change the status quo
  15. ^ The Ritz Carlton is also used. That's where the Warriors stayed during the Finals as well as where the Yankees and Blue Jays typically stay.
  16. Yes, included with a protected bicycle trail from the bridge all the way to 65th. That's still a ways off though from happening.
  17. ^ I believe it was an issue involving the pantograph on one of the rail cars. But I don't know any details.

^ We have a separate thread for Detroit transit news (non-streetcar) :) I'm up in Detroit for work today, and tracked down the new streetcar:
  19. I'm sure there will be great signage in place at Green Line stations to let riders know. Oh, wait, no there won't.
  20. ^ Haha, that was my first thought too.
  21. Here are some pictures from about 11am this morning
  22. Horrible idea. Put that money in a fund towards the multi-modal transit center with a bridge over the top of it. This bridge is part of the plans of the multi-modal transit center.
  23. Crain's coverage of the recent land acquisition by Weston. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20160911/NEWS/160909802/big-weston-development-adds-small-piece
  24. ^ I think the city is telling the truth on this. It's consistent for them to merge bike lanes into traffic when arriving at a multi-turning lane intersection. But yeah, the city sucks at building bike infrastructure
  25. ^ This is the guy behind that campaign http://www.cleveland.com/style/index.ssf/2009/05/fashion_week_cleveland_organiz.html
