Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Apparently there are discussions happening among the higher ups at city hall about keeping the square closed to traffic, based upon all the feedback heard so far. I don't know any further details other than that it's being talked about.

Why transit was key in bringing the RNC to Cleveland By Faiz Siddiqui July 19 at 1:21 PM Those attending the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week have a panoply of transit options for getting around: heavy and light rail, bus rapid transit, traditional buses and even trolleys. Once arriving at the airport, visitors can hop on Cleveland’s Red Line for a swift, 29-minute trip to Tower City station, a six-minute walk from the convention site. That’s part of what made Cleveland such an attractive site for the convention, officials there say. It has the transit infrastructure to handle a sudden influx 50,000 visitors. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dr-gridlock/wp/2016/07/19/why-transit-was-key-in-bringing-the-rnc-to-cleveland/

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
Yes, it does. However, they were working on a system with the library so that you could use your library card as a way to access the system if you do not have a credit card. I don't know the specific details on how that all ended up.

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
The signage with the UH Bikes logo has been affixed to the docking stations. The first bikes are due to arrive tomorrow, along with the launch of the website (website is live http://uhbikes.com/). The initial bikes will only be temporary and will be green in color. The permanent red UH Bikes won't come until August September.

^ That's what it looks like! The sign reads "The Garfield" with "www.thegarfield.com" written below it, if anyone is having trouble reading it.

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
I hear ya on this one. This is aggravating the lights on Chorus Line have been off for about a year and a half now. Suposedly it made for 'too much' going on at Playhouse sq. Sensory overload was the thinking post-Chandelier /Euclid ave sidewalk lighting. its a shame . a good example of the "Cleveland way." It appears that this is being fixed

They are adding temporary banners in the windows on the front side of the building. Also, note the name of the building listed on the sign

Good read from Alex Baca, who just recently moved to Cleveland from SF Cleveland Rising? By ALEX BACA • July 14, 2016, 12:00 AM “In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you have.” So wrote LeBron James in a Sports Illustrated homecoming announcement in 2014, providing an apt description of Cleveland’s mythology of rust-belt grind. It’s a story you know: over many decades, factories shuttered, and union jobs became harder to find. White flight hollowed out urban neighborhoods, and the nationwide rise in crime piled on. Companies set up in the suburbs, leaving the city to wither, as its population declined from a high of over 900,000 in 1950 to under 400,000 today. Two years later, when 1.2 million people joyously flooded downtown Cleveland for the Cavs’ NBA championship victory parade, it felt like a real city again, full of people walking, laughing, and drinking in a place once built for that size population. Today downtown is booming, relatively speaking, and the city is firmly committed to harnessing supposedly economically essential millennials within its borders. But you’ve heard about Cleveland more than usual lately because it’s hosting the 2016 Republican National Convention. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/urbs/cleveland-rising/

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
As NOACA begins its public meetings for its new long-range transportation plan, let's take a look back in history. Here is a summary of Cleveland's first major long-range plan from 1969. It was developed by NOACA's predecessor, SCOTS. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B16RJdSArUFaWWNDSkc2UlFxa0E/view SCOTS became part of NOACA in 1969, and then NOACA adopted a 1985 focused plan in 1974. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B16RJdSArUFaSjhTdW9QZFl1RUE/view You'll notice transit expansion was a big part of the plans, and unfortunately that is the part that did not come to fruition.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Story from Politico on Public Square. It spends quite a bit of time on the history of the square and the city in general, but you'll notice there are a number of minor factual errors. The Hot New Park at the Center of the Republican Convention By COLIN WOODARD July 12, 2016 CLEVELAND—Just in time to play a starring role in next week’s Republican National Convention, Cleveland’s most iconic civic space has undergone a $50-million face-lift. Public Square, for the past century little more than an unpleasant traffic-clogged intersection at the center of the city, is again a park for people—six acres of swooping promenades lined with sinuous sculptural seating, lush gardens and a public lawn. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/07/what-works-ohio-cleveland-public-square-urban-park-redesign-republican-national-convention-214035

Agreed. I just wish they didn't have 4 full lanes going through. Not sure that many were necessary

I don't think RTA knew this was coming, but I could be wrong. When I said "we" I was more referring to the state.- Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion

This is getting pretty far off topic... To rectify that, here's Ginger's story about the RTA CLE app: http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2016/07/rta_mobile_app_lets_riders_pay.html- The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
I've noticed that too! Lots of people casually riding bikes lately too. Unfortunately our downtown bike infrastructure sucks so bad that they all end up riding on the sidewalk- The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
