  2. A rare piece of good news on the RTA front: RTA launches mobile fare app, your farecard is as close as your phone Jul 6, 2016 CLEVELAND – The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) today launched a new way for riders to pay for transit fares. The RTA CLE app for mobile ticketing lets riders skip the lines and pay from their phones. Mobile ticketing is a pilot program now available for use on all RTA services. The RTA CLE app is free to download from the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play. The pilot program is also free to RTA. This new initiative is part of RTA’s overall mission to provide safe, reliable, clean, and courteous public transportation to its riders. With sustainability as one of RTA’s guiding principles, this new paperless form of payment is an additional way to optimize transit’s impact on the environment and provide a greater convenience to riders. The new app is powered by Passport (link is external), a leading mobile payments provider for transit and parking. Passport has launched mobile ticketing solutions in other cities, including Sacramento, CA (link is external), Jacksonville, FL (link is external), and Columbia, SC (link is external). With the new RTA CLE app, RTA riders can easily plan and pay for their trip on their phone. Transit riders can even use the app’s interactive map screen to coordinate their RTA ride ahead of time. Using their secure RTA CLE account, riders can add their credit card information to pay for their pass. Riders can then use their mobile ticket to board transit or store their ticket for later use with the app’s Ticket Manager feature. “We are happy to introduce this convenient, new technology to our customers,” said Joe Calabrese, RTA’s CEO and General Manager. “This mobile ticketing solution gives our riders a more convenient option for fare purchases and a more efficient way to plan their trip ahead of time,” he said. “We’re excited to continue to improve upon our rider experience and make traveling around Cleveland that much more convenient and better.” http://www.riderta.com/news/rta-launches-mobile-fare-app-your-farecard-close-your-phone More info: http://www.riderta.com/mobileticketing
  3. The Nuevo restaurant at North Coast Harbor was officially dedicated this morning. Not often that a restaurant opening gets an official dedication from the city...
  4. Getting rid of those horrible machines and replacing them with something modern and easy to use in an upright stance may increase ridership.... Be on the lookout for a press release later this week announcing the launch of the Passport mobile payment app. At least this will make it so that you don't have to rely on those God-awful TVM's
  5. Greater Cleve RTA @GCRTA Ticket Vending Machines on west side Red Line still experiencing issues. Please bring EXACT CHANGE CASH of $5 for all day passes tonight. This isn't a good way to increase ridership...
  6. ^ Unfortunately Joe C seems to be content with just managing decline. 2019 is only 3 years away...

  8. Isn't the Soldiers and Sailors Monument the one part of the square that is owned by the county? Would that be their responsibility then?
  9. Yupp. They are currently in beta testing for it, so it only can be used for monthly passes on the rail system or park and ride. Hopefully it will be rolled out for full use in the coming months.
  10. I heard a couple years ago that there was talk of building a football stadium for Ignatius. I don't know if any talk has progressed on that.

Monday's game against Detroit is officially sold out. Friday's game looks close to selling out too
  13. ^ All true, but if I were a visitor to Cleveland, I wouldn't consider using transit to get to those places.
  14. Anyone visiting Cleveland/downtown would never know Cleveland has a rapid transit system, unless, of course he or she used the rapid to get downtown. While this is true, there are arguably only two places the rapid goes that would be of major interest to visitors who didn't already come in via the airport, W. 25th and Shaker Square. Oh. And the waterfront. But I'm not suggesting we start that again [emoji2] University Circle? Little Italy?

This is one time where I'm glad to see Ohio erode home rule autonomy

I think you needed a Pepsi can to get that price, right? My buddies and I would buy those tickets and spend the entire game at the Batter's Eye in centerfield. Didn't once go to our actual seats. Nope that was general face value. They increased to $8 in 2008--still wasn't bad.

I miss the days like back in 2007 when I could just go up to the box office and get a $7 upper outfield reserve ticket without any fees. I went to about 25 games that summer. No way could I do that now.

It makes business sense for them, but as a fan, their ticket pricing structure is pretty bad.

  24. I had been told that Forest City was not hot on the idea of increasing RTA signage around Tower City. RTA is well aware of the deficiencies there. I too hope we see that improved soon.
