Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
RTA's policy is to continue running the Rapids until 90 minutes after a downtown game ends. But I think that's going to change after the new service changes take affect -- especially on the Green Line. The Blue and Red lines are unaffected. And the Red Line runs until 1 a.m. anyway. Yeah, seemingly the only exception to that will be for Browns games, for which RTA says they will keep the Green Line running longer. Even though it's very rare that a Browns game runs later than 9pm...

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
It's absurd that any of the public green spaces downtown "close." Before they rebuilt the Malls, there were signs saying that you were prohibited from being there from 10pm-6am (IIRC). The signs are no longer there, but I assume the ordinance is still in place? This isn't how cities should operate

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
The RNC local host committee has been putting banners up around downtown this week. I noticed this one on the 668 Euclid building yesterday. I think the idea of the Cleveland fun facts is kind of neat, but this fact is blatantly false. Garrett Morgan had nothing to do with the first electric traffic light that was put at E 105th and Euclid in 1914. It was designed by James Hoge. Morgan's traffic signal was the first 3 colored traffic signal and didn't come about until the 1920s. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/first-electric-traffic-signal-installed

A little more progress every day: The traffic signals at the Tower City crosswalk are now activated And they were putting up the signage for the cafe tonight. We still haven't heard about who the operator is right?? Does this give any clues? I couldn't find anything

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
RTA improving access to Little Italy Station from University Circle By Ginger Christ, The Plain Dealer on June 15, 2016 at 12:50 PM, updated June 15, 2016 at 1:09 PM Cleveland, Ohio -- The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority soon will break ground on a construction project to connect its new rapid transit station to University Circle. RTA in August will begin work to extend its Little Italy - University Circle Red Line station to Euclid Avenue. The $1.3-million project will focus on the roughly quarter-mile stretch along the north side of Mayfield Road to University Circle. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2016/06/rta_improving_access_to_little.html

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
^ I think the same thing could be said of the Indians organization as a whole. I think loyalty is a good virtue and helps create stability, but it can be detrimental if taken to an extreme. How many other owners in baseball would keep the same front office staff in place (and even promote them) with the lackluster performance the Indians have had over the last decade and a half?

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Sorry, no news of an opening date yet, but here's a story from Freshwater: New Public Square recalls Cleveland’s historic vision with fresh modern feel KARIN CONNELLY RICE | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15, 2016 As the refurbished statues of Moses Cleaveland and 1901 mayor Tom Johnson overlook Public Square, one would think that the pair would be impressed with the modern transformation of the plaza that originally served as a common pasture for livestock and later a grid for moving from point A to point B within downtown’s epicenter. Almost complete, the fences that have been hiding Public Square since renovations began in March 2015 will soon come down and a new six-acre green space will be unveiled before the Republican National Convention begins July 18. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/PublicSquare061516.aspx

CLEVELAND - Spring Meetup
So, this kind of died out, sorry about that. I think doing both a happy hour and lunch meetup isn't a bad idea. That way it allows more people to participate. As for an evening meetup, I like the idea of Platform. They have good patio space, it's reasonably accessible, and they have more consistent hours. I think the Doodle worked well last time, so I created another one with some dates in a few weeks. If you're interested, fill out the form with your UO forum username and the dates that you would be able to come: http://doodle.com/poll/gfhwtzvwpbisyam9. If anyone has suggestions for changes in venue or the dates/times, please voice them and we can change/add anything. Thanks!

East Cleveland: News & Discussion
^ You are correct. If an area is not a village or a city, it is part of a township. The city of East Cleveland is part of what used to be East Cleveland Township. All but two (Olmsted & Chagrin Falls) townships in Cuyahoga County are defunct since they've become part of incorporated territory.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I noticed this a few weeks ago, but haven't seen it here yet, apparently there is a logo, Twitter, and Facebook account for Public Square. At first I didn't think it was official, but it appears that it is. Kind of odd that it just kind of appeared without any sort of announcement from the Group Plan Commission https://twitter.com/CLEPublicSquare https://www.facebook.com/clepublicsquare/

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Earlier today, I found this PD story from 2006--almost 10 years ago. Does anything sound familiar? We were facing almost identical issues back then. What the hell have we been doing for the last 10 years? (The difference though is that ridership was increasing then, yet is decreasing today) Cash-strapped RTA wants more state money Plain Dealer, The (Cleveland, OH) - September 20, 2006 James Ewinger, Plain Dealer Reporter The state's largest transit system may have to boost fares again or cut service as state subsidies continue to decline and income from the countywide sales tax - 70 percent of RTA's income - continues to flag, RTA General Manager Joe Calabrese warned Tuesday. The Regional Transit Authority board passed a resolution urging the state to follow the examples of Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania by investing more in public transportation. As it stands, Ohio's per capita spending on public transit ranks down in the realm of South Dakota, New Mexico and West Virginia. Calabrese's warning comes on the heels of RTA's first major fare increase in 13 years and a rise in ridership ignited by climbing fuel costs. But those fuel costs have outstripped ridership gains, further cutting into revenue. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B16RJdSArUFaLVhlZE1EMlBDdzg/view?usp=sharing
