Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Why? Converting older skyscrapers seems to be a hit in NYC. TT is more than an older skyscraper. It is THE Cleveland landmark IMHO. I wouldn't be in favor of converting the Empire State Building into residential either. I worry about what happens 30, 40, 50 years ago when whatever units K&D puts in there become obsolete and dated. I'm all for residential conversion. Just some things are off limits to me. Some buildings should be nobody's 'home' When the units K&D puts in become obsolete in 30, 40, 50 years, then....they will be renovated again. Cities and buildings constantly change.

A double edged sword, considering Baltimore's local transit system is thus controlled by Annapolis
-
Other States: Passenger Rail News
Gotcha, I misread that second part. I was always curious why Baltimore never had an earlier subway, like New York, Boston, Philly. Found this interesting brief write up about the history there: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2002-01-26/features/0201260061_1_subway-baltimore-transit-system-in-baltimore

^ Baltimore isn't the capital and its rail system wasn't built until the 80s

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
^ There are two pedestrian cross signals in the middle and two at either end. They are the standard "walk" "don't walk" signals that also contain an activation button. ....I don't really like that

Are we even 100% sure that the roof is in its final state at this point?

The only place that is the case is at Tower City. No other station along the line requires you to swipe your card at a turnstile.

I think it would be helpful if fare payment instructions were also listed on the pages for each route. For example, on this page for the Green Line (http://www.riderta.com/routes/greenline), indicate clearly how the fare is paid on the train when exiting west bound and when entering east bound. On the Red Line page (http://www.riderta.com/routes/redline), indicate that you should buy a farecard before boarding at each station. My overall problem with RTA's website is that it is wayyyyyyy too text heavy. The fare payment page, for example, would be a great opportunity to use graphics to help explain the process. The RTA Twitter handle also regularly tweets out a link to this page: http://www.riderta.com/safety/healthline. If I open that from Twitter, there is no chance that I am reading all of that text. These are things that would be better conveyed using graphics with minimal text.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
If it is the city, can they actually handle this? Or will all the programming be run-down and out of service in a decade or so. Looking at the very positive changes at Edgewater, it almost feels like Metroparks should take over the new PS as well. The Group Plan Commission hired an executive from the Metroparks to be in charge of programming for the square and DCA is hiring (or maybe has hired) at least three staff members will report to that person and whose jobs will be focused on Public Square

^ The Group Plan Commission is fundraising for the maintenance part of it as well. I believe the upkeep will be carried out between the city and DCA?

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
What historic context? The square had been renovated a number of times over its 200 year history. It's not the same as re-doing the Mall or Jackson Square. Both of those spaces are valued public gathering areas and provide a lot of benefit to the city. Public Square, in its old form, did not. And don't forget, the Mall in DC was completely overhauled in the early 20th century, so just because something has been a certain way for a long time does not mean there is intrinsic value in the status quo.

100% agree. I wish the orchestra concert would be permanently moved to Mall B

There seems to be zero interest in this from those on city council. I wouldn't expect to see it in Cleveland anytime soon

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
Indians Look to Follow Mets’ Lead Extra Bases By TYLER KEPNER APRIL 23, 2016 When the Cleveland Indians hosted the Mets last weekend, they saw the kind of team they want to be. The Mets reached the last World Series with a group of young, hard-throwing, right-handed starters who have yet to reach free agency. If the Indians get there this fall, it will be for the same reason. “It’s going to be around our starting pitching,” General Manager Mike Chernoff said. “I think when you look at the success the Mets had last year, you can see that that can be successful. You read the fans’ reaction or the media’s reaction to ‘Do you have to trade a starter to balance your team more?’ What we saw last year with the Mets was no, you don’t have to do that.” http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/24/sports/baseball/indians-look-to-follow-mets-lead.html

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
The Indians have won a series in Detroit, gave Kluber lots of run support, and we're now above .500 in April (having already exceeded the total number of wins in April 2015). All things not typical of this Indians team, but I like it
