^ Sprawl is not inevitable when your regional population is stagnant
  2. I don't recall seeing any when I was in Cbus earlier this week
  3. ^ I usually open this thread expecting to see something that will make me feel good... I think a trigger warning should be required before posting pictures of Senator Cruz's headshot
  4. Unfortunately, the plans do not involve Megabus moving in, due to Greyhound's involvement. They will stay at STJ Transit Center.
  5. What a great, hard hitting letter to the editor. It really makes me rethink my whole position on transit advocacy... #sarcasm Letter to the editor: April 18, 2016 Wayne Capka, Cleveland I see in your April 4 editorial criticizing Ohio lawmakers for the cuts RTA is making that you are using typical class warfare. I don’t drive an Audi or a BMW, and I am a working man who sees things much differently than you do. For one, RTA, as is typical of ALL governmental agencies, cuts services to the public to balance budgets rather than trimming fat or, heaven forbid, the bloated pensions and salaries/wages of its workforce and bureaucrats. You ever look at the RTA board? Various people appointed to the board who meet a few times a year and are paid hundreds of thousands to do so. They are politically and socially connected people who do not work for a living. They just leech off the public... http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20160417/NEWS/160419834/letter-to-the-editor-april-18-2016
  6. That's the point though. Even without programming, the square offers more than just "grass."
  7. If it were me, I would have it on the north side in the middle facing south.
  8. ^ From what I've seen and heard so far, it seems RTA is "trying too hard." Trying to be "hip" to appeal to Millennials is almost never successful.
  9. ^ It's grass!
  10. New plan for East Side lakefront trail loop and neighborhood links is ready for city review By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer on April 13, 2016 at 8:40 AM, updated April 13, 2016 at 9:03 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio – A pragmatic, no-frills vision for new trails and neighborhood connections to the East Side lakefront, with an estimated cost of $24.5 million, is ready for potential approval by the city and the search for money to make it a reality. The plan, authored by the Cleveland offices of the engineering firm of Michael Baker International and Akron-based Environmental Design Group, which designed the new Lakewood Solstice Steps, is on the agenda for review at Friday's meeting of the city's planning commission. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2016/04/new_plan_for_east_side_lakefro.html More graphics can be found on the CPC agenda for this week: http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2016/04152016/index.php
  11. Certainly better than the old public square, but I'll reserve judgement until we can see how the concert functions at the new public square. Concert hill might make a great venue as well! I agree that it's tough to pass judgement until we see the new square, but the geometry of the Mall works better for a concert like this. Plus the slope of the convention center entrance created a perfect way for those in the far back to have a better view. And Public Square also has trees, statues, a cafe, etc that may make sight lines difficult. And the fireworks being blasted from the top of the library made viewing them easier as they were behind the orchestra, whereas on Public Square they have typically been set off from 200 Public Square, so they are to your back when viewing the orchestra (again, that may change depending on how they orient the stage with the new set up.)
  12. ^ Bummer. I was hoping that they would decide to keep it on Mall B. It was a much better venue for the concert than Public Square, IMHO.

  14. Vintage lobby of the grand Renaissance Cleveland Hotel gets a touch-up By Roxanne Washington, The Plain Dealer on April 07, 2016 at 11:32 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The lobby of the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel on Public Square will get a sprucing up, but no worries. The grandeur of the space and that feeling of stepping back isn't going to change. Hotel General Manager Steve Groppe said the hotel's new owner, Toronto-based Skyline International Development Inc., wants to "refresh the space." http://www.cleveland.com/insideout/index.ssf/2016/04/vintage_lobby_of_the_grand_renaissance_cleveland_hotel_gets_a_touch-up_photos.html

Unfortunately I can't view it. Zack Reed blocked me on Twitter a while back... I'll give him credit though, Reed was pretty good at the RTA hearing today
  16. ^ Is that first pic at the entrance of the tunnel to concourse D?

If Mr. Rodriguez is of Latin American heritage, there's a good chance he's of native American ancestry. I rarely wear the Cheif Wahoo hat anymore as I've come to like the block C. Plus I travel a lot and even if most people are not offended by the logo I still would rather avoid any controversy. Interestingly when I was driving cross country recently I saw an Apache boy sporting the Wahoo hat in Arizona. In hindsight I wished I had talked with him. Im as big of an Indians fan as they come, but ive given up Wahoo. I like block C as well and that's a great branding item. I love the name Indians, hopefully that never changes. AMIRIGHT that the protestors don't mind the name, just the portrayal of the heritage through the cartoon? No, most of them are demanding that the name be changed as well, which I don't agree with.

Viral Red Face Fan Reconciles With Anti-Wahoo Protesters Two Years Later Posted By Sam Allard on Tue, Apr 5, 2016 at 8:44 am Pedro Rodriguez, the Cleveland Indians fan who made national headlines in 2014 for confronting anti-Wahoo protesters in red face, confronted the anti-Wahoo protesters again Monday, before the home opener was postponed. This time, he came to apologize. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2016/04/05/viral-red-face-fan-reconciles-with-anti-wahoo-protesters-two-years-later

^ Still BS that the game was called, but props to the Indians for instituting this exchange policy.

Agree about the trains. Joe's response about the busiest stations is that they still have to run fiber optic cable out there which they say they can't afford to do
  23. TPH2 replied to a post in a topic in City Life
^ RTA's response is that they can't afford to put fare machines at all the LRT stations. That doesn't excuse the signage issue though...
