Don't get me wrong, I do like Jackson overall, and I think he has done some good things, but it's time to move on. There needs to be a change of culture at city hall and we need someone who can help set a forward thinking vision. It wouldn't hurt to have a more inspiring orator too. The problem is that if he decides to run again, then some good candidates, like Ronayne, would not throw their hat into the ring.

The stakes are high as Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson contemplates a fourth term By Brent Larkin, Northeast Ohio Media Group on January 03, 2016 at 8:36 AM, updated January 03, 2016 at 6:43 PM Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson isn't one to chase history for the simple sake of etching his name in some record book. But now, at the 10-year mark of his tenure as Cleveland's mayor, and the halfway mark of his third term, Jackson is contemplating a fourth. On the last day of 2017, Jackson will tie Michael R. White as Cleveland's longest-serving mayor. Another four years would take Jackson well beyond where any Cleveland mayor has gone before. http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2016/01/the_stakes_as_cleveland_mayor.html
  3. ^ This was the third year in a row, I believe
  4. I also hope not. I think one of the developer's for the Weston project indicated his personal desire to have his project underway with a visible crane during the RNC for the exact same reasons you state. My understanding for the "no orange barrels" was just for road construction and other public projects. I didn't think that applied to any private development projects.

They had thrown that idea around, but it was determined that it would be impossible to get it done by the RNC. I don't know the current target completion date though.
  6. I don't know what the hold up is in Cleveland. The hold up is that no one seems to want to do it http://wcpn.ideastream.org/news/open-container-districts-not-big-priority-cleveland-other-parts-ohio
  7. The CTS planners sure loved the idea of park and ride lots, huh? Great stuff though. Thanks for posting, KJP. I look forward to reading through that when I have some time.
  8. ^ I was just going to say that. I think any statues on Pubic Square should be honoring people who made very significant (positive) contributions to the city.
  9. My only suggestion is that it not be Carl Stokes, Louis Stokes, or Stephanie Tubbs-Jones. I think their contributions were great, but I think they have enough named in their honor already. There are plenty of other great Clevelanders in our history to honor besides these three.
  10. Yep, next closest is at 30th and Carnegie. I'd love a Wendy's though, if that's true.
  11. It would seem that is the date by which they are sure they would be able to accept reservations from the general public. There obviously wouldn't be any reservations for the time during RNC itself, as those rooms are already reserved. It doesn't seem that they have an official opening date yet, but once they do, they will probably open up reservations for the period before the RNC. Just a guess
  12. Thanks to all you with your insider/Xmas party knowledge. It's great stuff to hear!
  13. This is new right? I don't remember seeing this lighting on the Halle Building before
  14. And I'm tired of hearing that Public Square was walkable before its redo....
  15. Part of the Group Plan's fundraising efforts is for the upkeep of the square, which will be maintained by DCA.
  16. PoshSteve[/member], so is the entire cost of that being covered by the winnings from the lawsuit?

Both Covington and Newport and worth checking out. I thank ColDayMan[/member] for showing me that Newport is much more than just Newport on the Levee. They have some beautiful architecture and also some great views of downtown Cincinnati. I don't know if you're into church architecture, but the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington is one of the more beautiful Catholic churches I have seen in the United States.

More than the Arcade?? Blasphemy! The Hilton does have a beautiful interior though. One other thing I like to do in Cincy is go to the top of the Carew Tower. It's the best observation deck I've ever been to in a city because it's all open air and offers a 360 degree view. I think it's $4 to go up and it's open during normal business hours (maybe later on the weekend?).
  21. I went to Banter the week it opened. I liked it overall. The poutine was very good, my only complaint was that it was a bit salty. I don't recommend trying to eat a whole portion by yourself though
  22. If the city is paying people for that then it's just one more reason the airport should be under some sort of regional control. Want to pump up people? Modernize the airport to actually compete with other similar size metros. It's actually organized by Destination Cleveland and the groups are made up of volunteers

I'm sure Cincy people can chime in with more informed answers, but OTR has changed a lot, even since last year. That said, the neighborhood can change quickly, but I've never felt unsafe in any part of OTR. I'd say the general advice would be to stay near Vine St. south of Liberty and you'll be fine. It's also an easy walk down Vine to get back downtown.
