Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Finally! I've been waiting forever to try their poutine. Banter—a Beer and Wine Shop, and a Whole Lot More—Finally Opens This Week "We wanted to modernize the dusty old wine shop," says Matt Stipe. "If you go to any other major city, you can buy your beer and wine from these great boutique stores where people are hanging out, drinking and having a great time." Banter, he hopes, will be that kind of place. In fact, he and his partners are aiming for nothing south of being "the best beer and wine shop in town." To get there, they have restyled the bottle shop concept from the ground up (literally, but we'll get to that). From the way it looks to the way it functions, Banter will help redefine what Clevelanders have come to expect from their friendly neighborhood carry-out. http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/banterandmdasha-beer-and-wine-shop-and-a-whole-lot-moreandmdashfinally-opens-this-week/Content?oid=4672758

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
It's still "Rock and Roll Boulevard." The only kind of branding it received was putting up the street signs though, but they're still there.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
This is technically transportation related, but thought it'd make sense here since it's specific to UC. UCI's transportation plan is on the CPC agenda this week http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2015/12042015/index.php Just a few of the many slides:

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
Do you mean a suburban retail "lifestyle center?" Definitely don't think it looks like an office park. I haven't really given much thought about the architecture at this point since it's still pretty early. It doesn't blow me away, but I think it looks attractive. My biggest gripe is the new location of the Fresh Market at the old Qua Buick building. I hate the parking lot setback from Warrensville, but oh well.

Bridgeport, Connecticut
Connecticut is very wealthy, but it is also very segregated. Most of the wealth is concentrated in western Fairfield County, Litchfield County, and areas around New Haven and Hartford. The cities themselves and much of the rural areas are actually quite poor. New Haven has Yale which has helped its downtown really come around in recent years and Hartford has also seen some investment downtown. And Stamford benefits from basically being a suburb of New York City. Bridgeport, however, has not really seen much revitalization in its core. Bridgeport is also a much younger city than the others and was built on industry and shipping, so it suffered from a similar type trajectory during the 20th century as did many Rust Belt cities

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
First Look: Latest plans for Shaker Heights Van Aken urban design unveiled By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer Follow on Twitter on December 01, 2015 at 5:00 PM, updated December 01, 2015 at 6:49 PM SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – The latest designs for the city's Van Aken development portray a dense and lively neighborhood that would replace an outdated strip shopping center and parking lot near the intersection of Chagrin Boulevard and Warrensville Center Road on the city's southern edge. A sheaf of drawings depicting the urban design, landscape, transit connections and public amenities in the plan will be presented Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Shaker City Hall in the latest of an extensive series of meetings on the project. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2015/12/first_look_latest_plans_for_sh_1.html

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Here's an article from January about the prospect of St. Louis losing the Rams. St. Louis is obviously not a direct comparison to Cleveland, but it's close. Also, there's a difference between the two in that we already have a stadium and their conversation revolves around whether to build a new one. But nonetheless, some paragraphs about the economic impact of the team: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2015/01/10/losing-rams-would-be-blow-to-st-louis-pride-not-economy/21554185/ Edit: I realize this conversation is a bit tongue in cheek. I obviously am not totally serious when I advocate getting rid of the Browns. But I think we should recognize the fact that it's not a foregone conclusion that having the Browns here is better than not to have gotten them back

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Interesting choice of photo for the article RTA service cuts possible, fare increases likely By James Ewinger, The Plain Dealer Follow on Twitter on December 01, 2015 at 1:48 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The RTA board's finance committee said today that any service cuts would be minor. No routes have been designated for cuts, said Linda Krecic, RTA spokeswoman. Any cutbacks would be to bus service, not rail. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/12/rta_fare_increases_likely_but.html

Because the Browns bring such prestige to the city of Cleveland... And I'd actually be curious to see how much of an economic impact the Browns have on the city. I'd expect it's less than most people would think

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
^ I was wondering about that. I live right around the corner from there and quite often have seen ads on the boards that have nothing to do with the 9 complex, which I had thought was prohibited. I just assumed they eventually got some permission from the city for it. Guess not...

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Is there anywhere online (or in anyone's personal computer collection) to find archived maps of RTA's bus system over recent years? Having just moved back to Cleveland last year, I don't really have a good perspective of how the routes have changed in the last few years. I'd be interested to see what specific lines have been cut, consolidated, etc.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
New York's MTA is using marketing and media to get out in front of the public about their infrastructure problems and what they're doing to address it. I'd bet people's frustration with RTA would decrease upon seeing the problems that exist, what is being done to rectify them, and what still needs to be addressed. http://greatergreaterwashington.org/post/28938/new-yorks-subway-has-a-great-idea-for-metro/

Beachwood: Development and News
Beachwood seems to be thinking about moving in the right direction Beachwood may name neighborhoods, make main roads narrower: 7 ideas for the future By Bob Sandrick, cleveland.com Email the author on November 24, 2015 at 8:08 PM BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- The city will consider establishing a town center around City Hall and the outdoor pool on Fairmount Boulevard that might include open space, a gazebo with seating for outdoor concerts and a fountain. The city may also narrow Chagrin Boulevard and Richmond Road -- while not necessarily reducing the number of lanes -- to provide room for cyclists and make conditions safer for pedestrians. A citywide network of bike paths is also a possibility. http://www.cleveland.com/beachwood/index.ssf/2015/11/beachwood_master_plan_1.html
