Cleveland Browns Discussion
So apparently LA really wants a team. Why don't we give them the Browns just like we did the Rams and then we tear down the stadium and develop the valuable lakefront land?

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
I thought the plans looked good. I'm glad there are provisions in place for a connection to the lakefront pedestrian bridge. I still lament the fact that we won't have a grand, beautiful train station, but I think it will still be an attractive facility. Now about that funding...

Also, I highly doubt this house is from the 1830s. I thought it was acknowledged that the Dunham Tavern is the oldest building in Cleveland, which is from the 1840s.

Scene's story on the fare hike, among other things RTA to Raise Base Fare, Cut Service in 2016 Posted By Sam Allard on Thu, Nov 12, 2015 at 10:21 am In a letter to the RTA board of trustees, CEO Joe Calabrese proposed fare increases and a "slight service reduction" in the 2016 budget to react to what he characterized as downward financial trends. The proposed budget includes an increase in base fare from $2.25 to $2.50 and an increase in Paratransit fare — the service for riders with disabilities — from $2.25 to $3.50. Also, due to overcapacity at RTA garages, Calabrese has proposed a 1.3 percent reduction in the number of buses in service. The board deliberated at its meeting Tuesday morning, and will do so again, said Calabrese, at its meetings on December 1 and December 15. Public comments will be welcomed on those dates. (The meetings take place in the board room at RTA headquarters downtown, 1240 W. 6th St.). ..."This award [from Governing Magazine], together with the appointment of Valarie McCall as the chair of the American Public Transportation Association, shows the nation that Cleveland is leading the conversation on public transportation,” Jackson said... http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2015/11/12/rta-to-raise-base-fare-cut-service-in-2016

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
If there is any proposal to alter a designated city landmark, or to change and area within a designated landmark district, it must go through the Landmarks Commission. The purpose is so said development does not adversely alter the historic landmark. Edit: CbusTransit[/member] beat me to it. But if you're ever bored, here's some fun reading about it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B16RJdSArUFacEZfYmVkaXp3T1U/view?usp=sharing

Sort of like GCRTA being named "North America's best transit system." I do think that Joe gets unfair criticism, but I'd expect this award to go to someone with some more bold vision and leadership. It's also been 7 years since the HealthLine opened, which is pretty much all the blurb talked about regarding accomplishments.

CLEVELAND - Lunchtime meetup?
With 8 votes, the winner is Monday, November 16 at 12:00pm! Unless someone has an objection, let's plan it for that time. Now for the hard part-- picking the location. Let's do somewhere downtown. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I'm trying to think of places that are good for groups. Has anyone been to Kafeteria?

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
^ I don't mind it not being friendly to cyclists if it's because that the road is overly friendly to pedestrians.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
As excited as I was when I first saw plans for nuCLEus, I also lamented the fact that Stark had seemingly abandoned plans for developing the Warehouse District. Those parking lots do more to destroy the urban fabric downtown than the parking lot next to the Q.

Cleveland: Retail News
^ Well, in that specific example, FlipSide is significantly better than Shake Shack, which is highly overrated inmho.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
^ Well, obviously. I'm still not convinced that we're going to see a 500'+ tower at nuCLEus, but if the market is there, then go for it. I'm just pushing back against the mindset that tall buildings are needed just because we want an impressive skyline.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
We need more 500 feet+ buildings? Maybe when all of our empty lots are filled up and real estate becomes so expensive and in such high demand that we need to build vertical. I love tall buildings as much as the next guy, but it really doesn't make much sense for us to be building those right now.
