  1. Here we go again. This is getting out of hand Several shot, one killed in downtown Cleveland By Cory Shaffer | Northeast Ohio Media Group Email the author | Follow on Twitter on September 27, 2015 at 9:17 AM, updated September 27, 2015 at 10:24 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Two people were wounded and a man was killed after a shooter opened fire into a crowd standing in downtown Cleveland early Sunday. The victims were shot just before 2 a.m. on Euclid Avenue between Public Square and East 4th Street, Cleveland police spokeswoman detective Jennifer Ciaccia said. One of the victims, a man whose age and name have not been released, died at MetroHealth Medical Center. A woman and another man were both shot in the legs. Police released no description of the shooter, who ran from the scene. Officers have made no arrests, Ciaccia said. Investigators believe the shooting may be related to an altercation at Bank nightclub. Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call homicide detectives at 216-623-5464. This is a developing story. This post will be updated. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/09/several_shot_one_killed_in_dow.html
  2. I like the new wayfinding "lake/city" and the new landscaping. Otherwise add new lighting under the bridge and keep it simple. Except that there's no way to actually get to the lake going that direction....

No. They're 4GB in the loss column, thus 5GB in the Wildcard standings Make that 4GB now. And Minnesota and LAA are both currently losing...

Agreed, but 'write as you would talk' is not always the best advice for everyone.

  6. I agree. The Rocky River location seemed close to opening for a long time before it actually opened. The FEB buidling has been up for months, yet it seems like no work is ever being done inside of it.
  7. I was wondering yesterday if this is the first time in my life that I've seen Cleveland "move up" on a ranking list
  8. I was on the Rapid Monday night and was wondering about how many people from CMworld would be taking the Red Line from the airport. As I was on the train, there were not one, but two people blasting music from their phones, puddles were forming at the doors from dripping water from the air conditioning, there was trash on the seats and floor throughout the train, and then of course the painful slow zone from W 65th to Ohio City (which I believe is lifted now?!). It made me kind of embarrassed at the thought of the possibility of someone from out of town being on that train heading to downtown for the first time. Also, regarding the Red Line corridor: Cleveland Foundation adds clout to public art project to freshen Red Line Rapid before RNC 2016 By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer Follow on Twitter on September 09, 2015 at 8:20 AM, updated September 09, 2015 at 8:46 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio – A $150,000 grant from the Cleveland Foundation has added momentum to a project to install public art along the Red Line Rapid between Cleveland Hopkins International airport and downtown in time for the Republican National Convention in 2016. The project, which could involve five to seven installations, will salute winners of the 80-year-old Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, which "recognize books that contribute to our understanding of racism and our appreciation of diversity," according to the awards website. The foundation's grant comes on top of $357,000 allocated in June by the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency. http://www.cleveland.com/arts/index.ssf/2015/09/cleveland_foundation_adds_clou.html

2016 schedules are out! The Indians play a 27 game homestand in August/September. Assuming that's due to not having access to Progressive Field during the RNC in July. Home opener is April 4th vs Boston. EDIT: The August games were marked incorrectly on the schedule. That did seem a little insane. http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=cle#y=2016&m=4&calendar=DEFAULT

Maybe one day we'll get a smart card for our transit system and our city will get a car sharing system, then in about 20 years we might be able to join the Twin Cities with this

You can still see it today. It's on display at the Western Reserve Historical Society
  12. ^ Other bus lanes that are exclusive to buses only during certain hours use markings on the pavement. As well as highway HOV lanes. And if a by-product is that it keeps cars out of the lane during off times too, so be it.
  13. I really wish that the bus lanes were designated as such on the pavement, like with the HealthLine--either with grooves or just even markings saying "Bus Only." Motorists illegally drive in Clifton Boulevard lane restricted to buses and bikes By Alison Grant, The Plain Dealer Email the author | Follow on Twitter on September 03, 2015 at 12:04 PM, updated September 03, 2015 at 1:10 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A lane devoted just to buses and bikes during rush hour is a key feature of the changes unwrapped last December along Clifton Boulevard in Lakewood and Cleveland. The $20 million Clifton Boulevard Transportation Enhancement Project's dedicated bus lane, shared with bikes during morning and evening commutes, is supposed to provide a faster, more reliable and attractive public transit ride while encouraging another non-car way to get around, bicycling. But is the bus-and-bike lane working? Responding to reports that motorists frequently use the right lane to zoom around traffic on Clifton during rush hour, I decided to check for myself. It's an unofficial tally, granted, but the results nonetheless are rather stark. From 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning, watching in both directions on eastbound Clifton at 114th Street, no fewer than 90 cars and trucks, including a semi-trailer carrying a load of pallets, coursed down the right lane for blocks or slipped out of the middle lane to cut ahead of traffic before merging again into the central flow of traffic. 14. The Comeback Of The Great Lakes States Joel Kotkin For generations the broad swath of America along the Great Lakes has been regarded as something of a backwater. Educated workers and sophisticated industries have tended to gather in the Northeast and on the West Coast, bringing with them strong economic growth. Yet increasingly these perceptions are outdated. The energy hotbeds of Texas, Oklahoma and North Dakota may have posted the strongest employment growth since 2007, and were among the first states to gain back all the jobs lost in the recession. But a group of less heralded places from Minnesota to western Pennsylvania have also enjoyed a considerable revival, as energy, manufacturing, logistics and other basic industries have rebounded. Every Great Lakes state except for Illinois now has an unemployment rate below the national average, a stunning reversal from previous decades... http://www.forbes.com/sites/joelkotkin/2015/09/03/the-comeback-of-the-great-lakes-states/
  15. Cedar Fair purchased Kings Island in 2006. Since then, King's Island has added 3 coasters (but lost one) so a net gain of 2. In that same time, Cedar Point has only added 2 (now it will be 3 starting next year). So, it's not like there's that huge of a disparity.
  16. In trying to find some silver lining with the building, I will say that the front facade does look better now that the signage has been put up
  17. Welcome, roman totale XVII[/member]! I agree about Prospect. It's almost as if it's a back alley or something, just with a lot of traffic (but soon with a much nicer surface, thankfully).
  18. ^ Yeah, the space behind the building on the Prospect side is even greater.
  19. This would be a very bad move by CMSD, imho Developers want old Max Hayes school and its lake view; Cleveland schools say no By Patrick O'Donnell, The Plain Dealer Email the author | Follow on Twitter on September 02, 2015 at 9:30 AM, updated September 02, 2015 at 9:40 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland school district is holding firm on its plans to build a new high school on the site of the old Max Hayes vocational school on Detroit Avenue - even as one city councilman and some planners eye the property for new housing. Mayor Frank Jackson and other officials had a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday for the new Max Hayes, built just south of Interstate 90, while the old school sits empty overlooking the West Shoreway at W. 46th Street. The district has the five-acre property at the border of the Ohio City and Detroit-Shoreway neighborhoods slated for a long-promised new West Side high school. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/09/developers_want_old_max_hayes_school_and_its_lake_view_cleveland_schools_say_no.html
  20. There are few places more beautiful than the mall on a sunny summer day.
  21. ^ “So if you were walking up and down Euclid Avenue between East 9th Street and Playhouse Square five years ago, you may say same thing we’re saying about for East Cleveland today. That it‘s kind of a ghost town, that anybody rolls up their doors at 5pm.” That is an absolutely absurd comparison
  22. ^ Assuming that document is old? The website for FEB used to list it under their restaurants section, but it has since disappeared.

Woah there. When did I say this? I was simply asking if that was the connection you were making because I had never heard that before. But I do highly doubt that Mark was referencing the Charles Dolan clan when talking about the "Dolan Family." Thanks for the NYT story StrapHanger[/member]. I was looking for that story as I remember Larry saying something to that effect.
