Are you insinuating that the New York Dolan cousins are involved with the Indians?
  2. Crop Rocks opens at 5pm today First look: Crop restaurant complex opens in Cleveland Flats By John Petkovic, The Plain Dealer Email the author | Follow on Twitter on August 31, 2015 at 11:42 AM, updated August 31, 2015 at 12:29 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- "Wow, this almost looks like a museum with a restaurant in it," said Steve Schimoler as he surveyed the artifacts and thousands of albums adorning the walls of Crop Rocks. "I hope it feels like a commune." Schimoler was wide-eyed and full of awe and wonder as he debuted his latest restaurant Sunday during a private opening. Crop Rocks will open to the public at 5 p.m. Monday. http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/08/first_look_crop_restaurant_com_1.html
  3. Looking at another school down I-77 would make me wary about starting up a football program...

    How so?

That's the thing I never really liked about Corktown. There are some great restaurants, bars, and residential areas, and not only are they spread out, but Michigan Ave is so wide that it really kills the sense of place there. And the stretches of vacant land and gas stations along the road don't help with that either.
  6. I'm shocked that they're still using the "Avenue" moniker. Because i haven't heard it in twenty years. I thought they officially dropped that years ago. You don't see it listed as "The Avenue" anywhere, with the exception of Forest City's property listing web page.

Indians owner hires firm to find minority investor CLEVELAND (AP) -- Indians owner Paul Dolan hired an investment broker several months ago to help him find a minority investor for his franchise. Dolan secured Allen & Co., a New York-based firm, to search for a minority owner, a team spokesman confirmed Sunday. The New York Post first reported the deal on Saturday. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/indians-owner-hires-firm-minority-investor-180310732--mlb.html?soc_src=mediacontentstory&soc_trk=tw

Only 3 games under that long elusive .500 mark...and 4.5GB a playoff spot at the moment. Not that I think that'll happen, but for the first time this season, this team is fun to watch.

Nice shots. I'm looking forward to getting back up there this fall. I also love the uniformity of Detroit's downtown street lamps.
  11. ^ I get what you're saying, but it's not accurate to say there aren't any "livable" neighborhoods adjacent to downtown. Corktown, Midtown, and Lafayette Park are all perfectly livable. Corktown is fine, but it's development is spread pretty thin. Midtown is a great area with lots of energy as well.
  12. This is a decent read from the Free Press: http://www.freep.com/story/money/business/2015/08/15/quicken-bedrock-dan-gilbert-cavsdan-detroit-downtown-buildings-hudsons-apple-store-retail/31742621/
  13. what exactly has Gilbert done for Detroit besides swoop up a lot of distressed property at bargain prices. Has he substantially rehabbed any? Has he brought any real employment base downtown for the suburbs? When I lived in Detroit, there was a lot of talk of him bringing 3000 jobs from Livonia but it never happened. Seriously?. For starters, he brought in over a thousand employees downtown when he moved Quicken Loans HQ down there, and that number is now over 12k. He's done building rehabs and has attracted dozens of retailers and residents to those building. He's helped spruce up downtown to make it more walkable and livable. Not to mention investing heavily in the M-1 streetcar. Like him or not, you can't say he hasn't had a big impact on downtown Detroit.

Michelle had that rendering in her article as well. It's the south face of the building.

^ No, that house is on Random Rd. between Paul Ave. and Cornell.

I'd imagine so. The old Commodore Hotel building is only 12-13 stories and the Lerner Tower at UH is 155 feet. Here's Emporis' list of buildings in University Circle. Looks like the tallest is W.O. Walker Center at 208' http://www.emporis.com/borough/101521/university-cleveland/1

    So, whatever happened to this?
  20. Agreed. At least they are now designated on the map with "These routes operate on the roadway." And the issues with the incorrect parking designations have been fixed. However, the Red Line was scaled down significantly for some reason. I know transit maps are not supposed to be to scale necessarily, but this map looks like it's a map for the Blue and Green Lines, with the Red Line being a secondary focus. Also, is it just my eyes, or are the station names randomly different sizes (e.g. "W. 117th-Madison" vs."Triskett")? Sorry for being annoying and nitpicky.
  21. ^ I'm more concerned about at first extending the boardwalk to connect with Settler's Landing and Heritage Park
  22. ^ I mean, it's home to Cleveland's oldest bar
  23. nice -- wait, is that real/fresh mozzarella on it? looks tasty -- i like the crust charred like that. You guys are driving me caprese :-o I tried it again yesterday, and my verdict is....the same as it was before. It's very good. No ones forcing you to eat there. In other news, Chapati Indian Grill is open in Uptown.
  24. ^ E 185th is far from a "cool" commercial district, but between it and Waterloo, it is indeed better than anything in Slavic Village
