Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I don't understand why the maps on the rapid cars have still not been updated to reflect the new station at LI-UC. They had known that was coming for years and it's not exactly a big capital expense. You'd think they would've had new maps ready to go and could easily have replaced them all within days of the new station opening.

^ Their oven is 800°, not 900°. But regardless, pizza is such a wide spectrum and there are many different kinds and styles. No one pizzaria can claim that there is a right or wrong way to make pizza. I'm sure that there are people out there who didn't like the pizza that was made at the 'mom and pop' shop that you worked at.

Only took a few weeks, but Scene has finally caught up with us: Early Plans for Phase 3 of Flats East Development Include a Movie Theater Posted By Vince Grzegorek on Fri, Aug 21, 2015 at 12:18 pm The Flats East Bank development project website got a facelift recently, and with that facelift came a link to a Phase 3 for the project which hadn't been mentioned before. Phase 2, of course, is nearing completion and some of the businesses included in that portion of the development have already opened, including FWD Day and Night Club, with many more to open soon. Cleveland Guardians Discussion
Can't say I'll shed a tear if this happens Indians president Mark Shapiro 'a strong candidate' for Toronto Blue Jays job During a time in which the Cleveland Indians have gone south in the standings, Tribe president Mark Shapiro reportedly is being recruited by an American League contender to the north. Shapiro, who has been with the Indians for nearly 24 years, is “a strong candidate” to join the Toronto Blue Jays in a similar role, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported Thursday night, Aug. 20. The Blue Jays have been looking for a replacement for president and CEO Paul Beeston since last year. Shapiro was one of several executives linked to the Toronto job in 2014, but Beeston later signed a one-year extension. He is retiring at the end of the 2015 campaign. When reached by Crain’s on Thursday night, Shapiro declined comment. Are there even windows in that space? I don't think that space has been leased yet (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Thanks for your opinion. I thought it was very good though. My only complaint was that the cheese didn't cover the entire pie, but I imagine that wouldn't be the case if I had gotten the shredded mozzarella cheese instead. Also, it was their first day (even the first few hours of their first day), so let's see how they do once they get more in the rhythm of things. Edit: And I disagree about it not being evenly cooked, and I like the charring and dough bubbles as well.

Cedar Point
And why is the main headline on Cleveland.com about this one so called "expert" denouncing Cedar Point? (It's a rhetorical question) EDIT: In other news, it looks like track for the new coaster has started arriving to Sandusky: http://pointbuzz.com/Forums/Topic/track-has-arrived-

CLEVELAND - Lunchtime meetup?
^ I'm always down for Heinen's, but it's pretty busy and noisy during lunch time so I'm not sure it'd be great for a meet up lunch

CLEVELAND - Lunchtime meetup?
^ Agreed. Also I'm not sure what places are currently open during lunch time. Is Alley Cat?

CLEVELAND - Lunchtime meetup?
Good idea. Was just thinking about how we should organize one. As for me, I unfortuantely won't be able to do a day in August most likely. I'd be free Sept 1-9th though.

Cleveland's Architectural Gems - Tuesday, August 18th
I thought that sounded like a cool fact too, and decided to look at it further last night...unfortunately it's not really the case. The Blossom "arch" is pretty much at a right angle, so thus very different from the Gateway Arch. Wow, I'm totally being "that guy" right now... Sorry

Cleveland: Upper Chester: Development and News
Almost all the parking is on the interior of the blocks, which is about as good as you can do given the reality that the residents and visitors are going to have cars. And Innova includes a smallish garage, which reduces the number of surface spaces they would otherwise have had to build. I know I know. I recognize that we can't go from hollowed out empty lots to big city high density overnight. I'm glad to see this part of Hough get some attention though.

Cleveland's Architectural Gems - Tuesday, August 18th
Did you end up going, MayDay[/member]? If so, thoughts on the talk? I thought it was interesting, but had hoped for more discussion of lesser known buildings in Cleveland. A few people asked questions about housing in the city, and I got the thought that it would be cool to have a talk about the various residential architecture styles in Cleveland. It would look at the different styles of housing, what time period they came about, and why certain neighborhoods look the way that they do. I haven't really seen any comprehensive overview of that before.

I love seeing such development planned around Newton Ave--one of my favorite residential streets in the city. But on the other hand, I also hate to see all the proposed surface parking lots surrounding Newtown Ave.

^ Solid feedback, rockandroller[/member]. Thank you. Many of the things you addressed are planned to be changed for the next go around. I agree that the instructions were a bit confusing and too cumbersome for wide participation. Posting to social media isn't a requirement though, just something that is encouraged. As for picking specific items for a checklist, that is always a challenge. The thought was to point out particular things so that there would be more of a call to action rather than just saying "go to a Cleveland festival" or "have dinner at a neighborhood restaurant." Everything you had mentioned that you did this summer were brought up as suggestions, but unfortunately only so much can be put on a list. But it's a good thing to think about moving forward. The general point is to get people who love Cleveland to have an incentive to engage with friends or family members who don't get into the city often (or who don't have a positive impression of the city). It's a work in progress, so feedback is appreciated. Everyone can feel free to email me with any thoughts or suggestions. Nonetheless, we still have another month with the summer list, so any participation would be appreciated.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Chefs Zack Bruell and Steve Schimoler debut Flats restaurants BY LEE CHILCOTE The Flats East project will celebrate a string of milestones this month and into the fall as new venues Alleycat Oyster House, Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar, FWD Day + Nightclub, Punch Bowl Social, Beer Head, Flip Side and Crop open for business. Yet as new offerings from two of Cleveland’s top restaurateurs reveal, the new Flats are nothing like the old Flats, except in the best ways — they’re once again a top-notch place to feel the city’s vibrant pulse, watch giant freighters slide by and take in a Lake Erie sunset. The inevitable comparisons arise, of course — after all, there’s a dueling piano bar here, a staple of the Flats’ heyday, and FWD has a pool like Shooters did in the ’80s — yet much-anticipated offerings from Zack Bruell and Steve Schimoler are kicking the Flats up to a whole new level. ...Schimoler’s target date for opening all three new Crop venues is the week of Aug. 24. ... Over the last few months I have been serving on a young professional committee with Destination Cleveland tasked with coming up with ways to better engage locals with the city. The final product is called the This Is CLE Challenge and it consists of seasonal to-do lists that were created by a consensus of the committee members. Here is the link explaining the contest: http://www.thisiscleveland.com/ThisisCLEChallenge/ As with any new project, participation has not been super high, so we are hoping to get more people involved. If you submit at least one entry of you doing something on the list (ideally taking someone who doesn't get into the city often) then you can be entered to win the prize package (valued at around ~$500). The contest runs until mid-September and then will be followed by the fall edition. Be sure to tag #ThisisCLE when sharing the pictures on social media as well.

Yeah, pretty much the same thing. Blaze apparently is looking to enter the Cleveland market as well. I like that Pizza Fire is a NE Ohio based company though.

Nothing that we all don't already know, but glad to see the press: RTA needs to find $254 million to bring entire network to state of good repair By Alison Grant, The Plain Dealer Email the author | Follow on Twitter on August 18, 2015 at 3:12 PM, updated August 18, 2015 at 3:28 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority has $254 million in unfunded projects that are needed to restore all corners of its bus and rail network to good condition. The stark math of the shortfall was set forth Tuesday as RTA trustees approved the agency's 2016 budget for infrastructure investments and took a five-year look at its needs through 2020. RTA has identified federal, state and local sources for $338 million in improvements over the next five years, though $100 million of that will be for simply maintaining buses, trains and track. Pizza Fire is open! I thought it was great. Lots of good options and not a bad price (under $10 for a pizza and soda). My pizza was ready in about 3-4 minutes.
