Great pictures...except the one of the Warehouse District from the Terminal Tower, not your fault though.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
First look: New Mayfield RTA rapid station brightens one of city's ugliest corners By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer on August 10, 2015 at 7:15 AM, updated August 10, 2015 at 7:35 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio – As a post-industrial city with a declining population and shrinking tax base, Cleveland has a tattered public realm that requires serious attention. Readers commented extensively on that reality in response to a column I wrote last week about eyesores that need to be addressed before the 2016 Republican National Convention. But it's also important to point out impressive victories in the city's push for physical renewal, including the outstanding University Circle Uptown development, the excellent appearance of the city's Cultural Gardens in Rockefeller Park, and the rise of the Gordon Square Arts District in Detroit Shoreway. The latest improvement is the new, $15 million Red Line rapid transit station in Little Italy, which will open for business with a brief ribbon cutting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2015/08/post_1.html

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Opening night at the Big Bang. It's a fun place, but I'm less than impressed with the physical space. It's too bright and feels like it's unfinished (and maybe it is). Edit: And here's FWD. Not really my scene, but it's a good addition to the Cleveland night life scene. $5 cover for girls and $10 for guys though...not cool Edit 2:Just realized my post contained quite an bit of negatives, but overall I think FEB is great and I'm excited for everything else to open.

Great stuff, KJP[/member]. Thanks for the write up. I knew that a Mayfield Road station was in the Van's plans, but never knew that they actually had been in the process of building it.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
From what I remember when I asked someone from RTA about this, they said there were issue with water leakage from the CSX rail bridge. CSX has apparently had zero interest in upgrading the bridge crossing, and they also rejected an offer for RTA to organize the funding to fix it up. Again, I'm not 100% sure on the details of that, so if someone knows more, please correct me.

Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
I'm trying to think of how I'd feel if I were an alumnus in that situation. Would I feel more inclined to give because of the current situation? Or would I be pissed off and refuse to give anything until there was a change in the administration?

^ They (broad definition of "they") really need to fix up that area under the CSX bridge so that it is more inviting for pedestrians to walk that way. Also, once Intesa comes online, it will make the walk down Mayfield to Uptown much more seamless. But even with the status quo, it will be exponentially better than using E. 120th.

^ The structure for Flip Side was up well before Alley Cat or the (former?) Toby Keith building, if I remember correctly. But it looks like they still have a decent ways to go. I feel like the Rocky River Flip Side also took forever to get finished.

Great pics, as always, mrclifton88[/member]! Good point about the lack of finished landscaping. Although the river views are great, I've been less than impressed with the overall urban vibe of the development. It seems like there is too much open space and the expansive parking lots don't help to make it feel urban. I hope when more stuff opens and more landscaping goes in that it starts to feel more cohesive

Let's also not forget about the Walworth Run and Big Creek valleys on the near west side. And of course, the Rocky River valley further west.

^ The common misconception is that Garrett Morgan designed that first traffic light on Euclid. It was actually James Hoge. Morgan's didn't come around until the 1920s.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^ Not just double dipping council members, but also double dipping administration members. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Mike McGrath and Marty Flask currently double dipping?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^ Not to mention the shooting at Muni Lot on Saturday. Also, there was a robbery right outside of Fenn Tower at CSU on East 24th Street last Thursday at 10:30am, right in broad daylight in a normally high traffic area.

I've never felt unsafe living downtown, but lately I've been wondering if that sense of security is unfounded

Yeah, it's the same as the other restaurants in that strip. Not a great pic, but the front entrance is below:

Some more Little Italy station pictures. Getting close! I love the feel of this station. It reminds me of the L stations in Chicago. If only we had more rail stations with such dense neighborhoods and development around them.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Here are some pictures of FEB from this afternoon. I tried to get some angles I hadn't seen elsewhere: There was a lot of discussion about the use of shipping containers for FWD. Using them in this location actually makes more sense than most other places I've seen them used across the country. Just to right, out of frame of this picture, there is a huge stack of shipping containers at the port. I think it leads to a neat visual and fits in well. On the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of the big empty space between FWD and the main residential building. There are small gates along the boardwalk so that boaters can easily get to the other side.
