Cleveland: Retail News
It's been there for as long as I can remember. I was a west side kid until 2000, so we didn't go to Beachwood much before that, but it's at least been there for 15 years. Edit: I just looked it up. The Beachwood Place Chick-Fil-A was the first in Ohio and it opened in 1979 http://www.chick-fil-a.com/Media/Doc/Openings/Perrysburg-OH-release-Nov-2012.doc

Cleveland: Retail News
^ That's sad news. For most of my life I associated Beachwood Place with Chick-Fil-A, as it was the only place in Cleveland you could find one. My cousins called Beachwood the "chicken ball mall" when we were little.

Visiting Cle
Thanks for the detailed update. Sounds like you got to cover a lot of ground on your first day. The cabin you mentioned is a replica of the cabin that was built by Lorenzo Carter--Cleveland's first permanent white settler. The park is called Settlers Landing Park as that is the area on which Moses Cleaveland and his surveying party first made landfall. It also is where the Ohio and Erie Canal emptied into the Cuyahoga River.

Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
They have a Development department and duly noted the Associate VP of Development just retired. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/ua-posts-list-of-jobs-abolished-remains-quiet-about-plans-to-adapt-1.611961 The Development Department is part of the Advnacement Division. The VP for Advancement oversees Development, as well as Enrollment (so, is basically responsible for almost all of the university's operating budget).

^ A VP for Advancement is typically in charge of fundraising, so a pretty important position still.

Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
I hate to see this happen to U Akron and I feel for the employees that are being let go (especially as a fellow state university employee myself). But I have little sympathy for Scarborough after his remarks at the City Club a few months ago. He alluded to his belief that CSU, KSU, YSU, etc wouldn't be around in 50 years. Ironic that it's his institution that is actually in the worst financial shape of them all.

First look: FWD club brings Vegas-style pool party to Cleveland Flats By John Petkovic, The Plain Dealer Email the author | Follow on Twitter on July 29, 2015 at 11:35 AM, updated July 29, 2015 at 12:20 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- You still see the construction machinery. The Dumpsters overflowing with debris. The men and women in the hard hats. But the dust is starting to settle on the much-anticipated Flats East Bank Project. Onward, forward. Er, make that FWD. The 15,000-square-foot open-air club is slated to open this weekend. FWD will roll out a pool and deck area, cabanas, a dance floor and a stage. The 1,000-capacity venue, located alongside the Cuyahoga River on the northern end of the Flats East Bank project, will also be open day and night – hence its full name, FWD Dayclub + Nightclub Cleveland. http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/07/first_look_fwd_club_brings_veg.html

Construction halted at Toby Keith bar in Cleveland Flats project By John Petkovic, The Plain Dealer Email the author | Follow on Twitter on July 28, 2015 at 7:22 PM, updated July 28, 2015 at 7:46 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill isn't getting much love these days. Construction of the much-anticipated country music club and eatery has come to a halt in the Flats East Bank project. The 20,000-square-foot location was initially seen as a nightlife anchor for the $750 million development, which brings a mix of residences and businesses to the east bank of the Cuyahoga River. Toby Keith's has since been left in the dust, as construction crews put the finishing on bars and eateries that plan to open soon in the area. http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/07/construction_halted_at_toby_ke.html

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
^ True, the CIMP did have much more space, but if you look at the site area below, the buildings circled in red will be torn down, so there will be a decent amount of space behind the new building. I'm just glad that they're turning it into a courtyard instead of adding the green space on the front side. It will be a significant upgrade over the status quo in that area.

There's actually one just up the hill, Tomo on West 9th Street. Now if you ask, are there any good hibachi places downtown? The answer is no.

According to this article, they have recently closed locations in Arizona, California, Minneapolis, and Texas. Add to that the Orlando location and now the Cincinnati location. It's too bad that they were the one tenant whose space was one of the ones furthest along in construction. http://www.tulsaworld.com/scene/music/toby-keith-licensee-leaves-trail-of-shut-restaurants-unpaid-bills/article_fb403142-0957-5024-b3f9-22541050d780.html

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
Some more news on phase II of the renovations. Time to move this thread back to active projects? Next phase of Progressive Field renovations likely will include removal of seats under overhang Jeff Thomas thinks the Cleveland Indians season tickets he has in the fifth row of Section 254, which offer a perfect view of home plate, are the best “dollar-for-dollar” deal at Progressive Field. There's just one problem: He's been told his seats won't be around in 2016. According to three Tribe customers who spoke with Crain's, the Indians recently notified season-ticket holders in the 200 level at Progressive Field — the 13 sections of seats under the overhang that stretch from home plate down the third-base line — that they are removing those seats to open up the main concourse. The work would be part of the second phase of renovations at the 21-year-old ballpark, which underwent a $26 million, privately funded facelift prior to the 2015 season. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150726/NEWS/307269994/next-phase-of-progressive-field-renovations-likely-will-include

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^ That's amazing news. With Pizza Fire coming, that will be a nice stretch of "fast casual" restaurants, something that downtown Cleveland has been sorely lacking Edit: Here's the article - http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150726/NEWS/307269991/team-sawyer-is-bigger-busier-than-ever "The 3,600-square-foot Noodlecat on Euclid Avenue is being reframed as a quick-serve lunch and dinner format. Customers will be able to build their own noodle bowl with a choice of broth, noodle, buns, protein and a separate salad. “It'll be more like a traditional ramen shop because it's more accessible,” says Julie Novak, director of restaurants for Team Sawyer. The first phase of a four-phase transformation already has begun, with a new menu prototype complete and the closing time adjusted to 8 p.m. instead of 10 p.m. as of two weeks ago. The Euclid flagship will serve as a model for additional outposts in the 900- to 1,000-square-foot range. Targeted markets include Pittsburgh, Louisville, Detroit and other cities within a day's drive — and then eventually beyond."

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Statement from RTA about the incident at East 24th and Euclid this afternoon: "At 4:40 p.m. today, July 26, Transit Police officers on routine patrol peacefully removed a intoxicated 14-year old male from a bus. Police said the juvenile was intoxicated to the point where he was unable to care for himself. Police escorted the youth from the bus to a bus shelter on Euclid Avenue at East 24th Street. Transit Police followed normal procedure, which is -- after police collect pertinent information, juveniles are transported to police headquarters to await release to a parent or legal guardian. Within minutes, a large crowd had gathered. For the safety of the juvenile, Transit Police moved him from the open shelter area into a police cruiser. The crowd then surrounded the car, and attempted to remove the juvenile from the car. By this time, several other law enforcement agencies had also responded. The crowd kept the police car from leaving the area. A Transit Police officer used a general burst of pepper spray in an attempt to push back the crowd, to no avail. The juvenile was escorted from the police cruiser to a waiting EMS unit to be examined at the scene. He was then released to the custody of his mother at 5:47 p.m. The incident is under investigation. RTA will update this statement as more facts become available." http://www.riderta.com/news/july-26-2015-rta-statement-euclid-avenue-incident
