Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
But not to be a total debbie downer, as a I said before, everything else looks great. I didn't take any pictures of it tonight, but I really liked what they did with the area outside of gate C. The flagpoles are up finally too. I also noticed tonight they they have renamed all of the gates. Gate C is now the Right Field Gate, Gate A is the Left Field Gate, and Gate D is the Infield Gate.

I agree. This was done terribly on a large scale, but quite a few small scale things they could have done to make it less terrible. I feel like I'm constantly beating a dead horse with this, but I'm just so angry about it that I need to vent often.

My last update on the upper deck fiasco. Unfortuantely the green now complete on the middle section doesn't make it any better. Even worse, and it's hard to tell in the picture, the boxes in the corner are covered in a green tarp. It's pretty windy tonight so you could clearly see them blowing a bit in the wind. Obviously (hopefully) just a temporary fix for the opening series, but still...

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
It will be a revenue producer for GCRTA police. And I'm not sure what the Ring of Steel refers to. If it's the buses, that wasn't GCRTA's objection to running buses through the square. As I said a few posts upthread, GCRTA's objection was to the expense. A vehicle service-hour costs GCRTA $135. Running buses around the square adds up time over a year -- into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. I think the figure was $800,000 or so. If so, that's how much it costs GCRTA to run an entire bus route over a full year. That's what i was referring to. I've heard the phrase alot to refer to the busses going around the square, but I'm not sure I've ever heard it from RTA now that you mention it. I had not considered the cost factor to it, but it does make sense since you pointed it out and sounds like something RTA would say as an excuse. I'm just disappointed like alot of us are that a once in a lifetime opportunity is being missed to unite the square based on things that really should be able to be worked out. I live downtown, and really have not seen any major disruption to the roads being closed. Like someone up thread pointed out, it's much nicer and easier to walk around down there now and cross the streets without fear of being run over. The phrase came from the traffic study that the Group Plan commissioned for the closing of the streets through the square. I disagree that there haven't been disruptions. I go through Public Square every day to get to work, and the increased bus traffic around the perimeter is definitely noticeable. I can understand why they would be concerned about the new square feeling isolated from the surrounding streets due to all the bus traffic circling it. The story below from Alison Grant talks about the recent slow downs the buses have been experiencing as well the point Bookman[/member] brought up about relocating stops on Superior: http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/04/public_square_reroutes_creatin.html

^ Vintage photo thread? Neat article though. I think it's time for a new edition of the 'Cleveland: Then and Now' book.

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
Why? Would it be in the line of sight with the batter and distracting? Exactly. All ballparks have a "batter's eye" section of the ballpark that is a solid color and void of any fans. The video board wasn't so much an issue last year because it was blocked by the market pavilion and bridge. But now that it's open out in center field, the batter would have a more clear view of the board.

Americans with Disabilities Act discussion
You get your family member there in the same way that you would have gotten them to row X in section 518...you don't. As I mentioned before, there are platforms near the entrances of each of these sections that are handicap accessible, just as they are in all parts of the upper deck. And, also as I a said before, there are other areas for group outings at the ballpark. You wouldn't plan a group event on one of these terraces if a member of your party is handicapped just as you wouldn't buy a ticket in row X in the upper deck either. Not every single part of the park needs to be ADA accessible.

^ It also seems unreasonable to have to build elevators or ramps to access each of these terraces. There are other group spaces available at the ballpark as well.

Then please explain to me the area I highlighted on how the terraces are not in violation. You put a wheelchair in the same spots that you would at any other point in the upper deck. As seen in picture below: There are no obstructed views from these sections.

^ I've read it a few times as well and don't see how the terraces are in violation.

That was my question. The upper deck is no less ADA accessible now than it was with seats in those sections over the last 20 years. Yes the upper deck was ADA accessible before. Seats were provided that matched what patrons without disabilities had. The addition of the terrace boxes provides a different viewing that now does not accommodate an individual the same as any other. There are the same landing areas outside the tunnels to the concourse that are still accessible. Sure, the terrace boxes at the higher levels might not be accessible, but what's the difference between that and higher rows of seats not being accessible?

None of the retweets were specifically talking about the upper deck though. In fact, I've yet to see any positive feedback regarding that section anywhere online or on social media.

While we've all been piling on the Indians for totally botching the upper deck portion of the renovations (and rightfully so), I do think they did a great job with every thing else (for the most part). Here are some updated pictures of the right field area: http://tribevibe.mlblogs.com/2015/04/06/photo-gallery-progressive-fields-new-right-field-district/?partnerId=as_cle_20150406_43315646 Some minor nitpicky things though: using "Gordon Square" as the name of the neighborhood and having Melt as their representative vendor for the Cleveland Heights section (I know there's a Melt in CH, but I don't really associate the two)...not to mention that Cleveland Heights isn't a "neighborhood".
