Last night I noticed an advertisement sign on the box right above Harder's number for Bernie Moreno Companies. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture, but it looked like this logo below, except stretched across the entire surface of the box and on a blue (I think?) background: God I hope that's not a permanent fixture.

Now that's a place I hadn't heard of until I Googled it.

Even worse, the lights along the entirety of Prospect were still off last night, which is pretty much the worst street to not have street lights working when you have thousands of out of town visitors at an event at the Q.

That could be the case, but then that would mean that they've known for months that the work wouldn't be completed by Opening Day, but the team has been saying that the vast majority of the work should be completed by the opener. So that doesn't really all add up to me.

^ It'd be great if RTA's operators could combine the no BS attitude of the MBTA and MTA conductors with the friendlies of the Twin Cities' Metro Transit drivers. Unfortunately, the majority of RTA's staff seem to lack both characteristics (a generalization, yes. There are some fantastic RTA operators out there, but they seem to be in the minority).

Keep in mind that the Prog project is being built on top of the original raked upper deck structure, so there really wasn't a lot of design flexibility. The only way to build flat surfaces is to erect those clunky empty platform box things. I know, but my wish is that there would have been more a structural redesign of the upper deck so that it would look more like Coors. I know that would have cost more money...

I agree. It happened all the time in DC and I read an article about how London has been having a problem with this. My problem with RTA is that it is always very apparent to the driver. A few weeks ago I was on the Red Line and the operators switched out at E 55th and there was a guy BLARING music on the train. Both the operators even looked in the direction of the guy, so there was no way they didn't know it was happening. But they said nothing. I've only ever once heard a bus driver tell someone to turn off the music. It seems like a minor problem, but it's so annoying, and I encounter it at least 60% of the time that I ride RTA (which I do 2-3 times per day). RTA really could be doing more to help curb this behavior.

^ I'll speak to Reed...he's not intelligent. And I don't get Jeff Johnson. I think he's an intelligent guy, but things like this, and other instances of similar misunderstandings at council meetins, make me wonder. One thing I do know though, Jeff Johnson's number one concern and priority is Jeff Johnson.

I don't know if they're allowed on all streets. I've only seen them on streets in the area of Central Park, maybe a five-block radius, certainly not confined to the park. If one should travel too far from the park, say 34th St, I would say that probably is abusive to a horse (to say nothing of the astronomical cost to the passenger). The carriages are prohibited from leaving a certain radius around Central Park (I don't know the exact street boundaries).

During the morning rush, it can take an extra minute or two for my bus to get around the Square to Euclid, but it hasn't been unbearable. I haven't seen any significant traffic back ups on Ontario or Superior either. I know this isn't a scientific study but it sure seems like they could easily close off the square to all traffic and be fine. I think allowing buses through is a mistake. Nobody in our lifetime is going to pay the money to tear up the new road they are building for the buses to go through on Superior. I had originally agreed with this, but after seeing the traffic flow over the last couple weeks, I've seen that there is a lot of truth to the "ring of steel" concern from the traffic study. There are so many buses running around the perimeter that it makes crossing S Roadway quite daunting. This morning for example, I was on the E-Line trolley which was parked at the stop in front of the Horseshoe. Next to us was a Cleveland State Line bus and then next to them was a HealthLine bus. I do think there is value to having the buses run through the Square on Superior.

Something like that. But what makes this different is that it is a major redesign of the street layout involving the square. And that hasn't been done in a century or more. That would be an interesting research effort. When was the last time the streets in the square were widened, or had their intersection curbs changed for bigger vehicles/streetcars, or when were the streets added through the square? I seem to recall old paintings from the early 1800s that the square didn't have any streets running through them. If so, this is a once-in-a-200-year change. I recall reading that the square always had Superior and Ontario running through it, but that it was fenced off for like 10-15 years in the mid-1800s. I'll try to look for a source on that.
