Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Does anyone know what's happening to the old Bob Golic's space at the north end of W 6th? There's construction going on inside, but I don't recall seeing any news about the location.

Great pictures. I'm glad you got to Ben's. I miss that place! But that guy in the picture is definitely not the owner/Ben's son.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Has anyone heard anything about Holy Craft on W 6th? Every time I've passed by it recently it's been closed, but I haven't seen signage indicated a permanent closure.

Imagine that. Local leadership pursuing a project without considering bigger picture implications and possibilities.

Touché haha. I should have double checked before speaking I guess, but last time I checked Cleveland wasn't listed as one of the cities and I had to enter in my CSU email in order to reserve those cars. Regardless though, the city could use a lot more Zipcar locations.

I do use the Zipcar at CSU occasionally, but that's only because I work at CSU and it's convenient. Plus, the accounts are through CSU and CWRU exclusively, so it doesn't count as a city wide network. If you look at Zipcar's list of cities served, Cleveland isn't on there. And that makes sense about Next Connect, which despite its update, is still FAR from user friendly.

Sorry that's my fault. Cincy is number 32. I don't know how they scored below Cleveland though. Here's the link to the full report: http://www.uspirg.org/sites/pirg/files/reports/Innovative_Transportation_Index_USPIRG.pdf

Living Car Free
Interesting study. I was reading this earlier today. Here is a cut out of the full rankings comparing Cleveland (#24) to Columbus (#13). Cleveland could really use car sharing. Also, we unfairly get credit for having bike share, but I'm sorry, Zagster isn't real bike share. Also, the chart says Moovit and Transit Authority (not sure what that one is) use real time data. I was skeptical of this, so I tested it out during my lunch break on the HealthLine and other buses...and let's just say it wasn't "real time."

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
According to this Litt article, Geis, Higley , Donley's and Turner were all contending for the contract and it looks like Donley's won out. I wasn't able to find anything besides the two links below. Perhaps someone else can fill in the details. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2014/10/group_plan_commission_seeks_10.html http://www.donleyinc.com/news-events/?tag=/cleveland+public+square

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Seriously, Geis has hands down the worst renderings by a supposedly professional developer that I've ever seen. Those are unacceptable. W.28th...I am a bit confused? What is Geis' involvement with the restaurant? GLSD is the architecture arm of The Geis Companies

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
Perhaps someone else might have concrete information, but my thought on the subject is that if we are going to be investing millions in such a project, we might as well locate it where all forms of transportation can access it. Amtrak's ridership has been on a steady increase, and I'd say that it's likely that some time in the future we will see increased intercity train travel in Cleveland. I think it'd be a little short sighted to cut Amtrak out of it because of their current service levels.

Annexation and City Size 1950-2010
The definition you're using is not helpful. As ryanlammi[/member] indicated, it's too broad for us to have a constructive conversation about it then. Doing a quick Google search will give you definitions that include the words "uncontrolled" development, "low density," or "auto dependent." I think looking at "sprawl" within that context is much more useful

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
So I take it construction has been pushed back to the 23rd? Wasn't there a February 1st start date? I understand there are obstacles that get in the way, and I completely agree with a poster either in this thread or another that made mention that these projects are starting because of the momentum in the city and not just because of the RNC, but I am beginning to wonder how some of these projects will end up panning out by the time the international spotlight is on the city. There never was an official start date, and this is one is quite clearly tentative. The February 1st date came from an incorrect report from Laketran that was reported by Scene.

I watched some of the live stream the afternoon. It was some of the most idiotic, cringeworthy grandstanding I have ever seen. I hate to say that someone is stupid, and I am usually bothered when people resort to ad hominem attacks, but Zack Reed is just not an intelligent person. I've attended a number of city council meetings over the last few weeks and will occasionally listen to him on the radio, and he just fails to grasp simple concepts. It's always all about putting on a show. I don't get how his arguments regarding this issue make any sense.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Right, but these are capital costs that the city would have had to spend in the near future anyway, regardless of what we're doing with Public Square.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I've always been meaning to go to PJ's, but have never gotten around to it. Looks like I'll have to make a trip in the near future Finally went there for breakfast this morning. Cool vibe, but the food was not very good and it was a bit pricier than I thought it would be. I won't be shedding a tear when it closes.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Just a random thought: my normal Sunday grocery store trip from downtown to the Shaker Heinen's has gone off without a hitch today...despite awful road conditions. Sometimes we take having rail transit for granted, but it's always nice to have a reminder about how valuable it can be.

Amazing set of photos. Well done. You've got some really unique shots in there, and also some neat angles of more common subjects. Damn I miss that city
