Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
You guys may hate the new Center for Innovation in Health Professions building (I don't totally share your sentiment), but I think we all can agree that Main Classroom looks a lot better now. They painted over the brick sections and added a glass pane for the Honors College signage. Also, there's a new illuminated "Main Classroom" sign out front. Edit: Here's an old (and bad quality) picture

Visiting Cincy
So I was looking at Megabus tickets to Cincinnati a few weeks back and saw them for $1 each, so I'm making a day trip down tomorrow (1/24) from about 8am-8pm. Most people think I'm weird to just go on a day trip by myself to another city, but it's been a while since I've been to Cincinnati, and to me a fun time is walking around a city and drinking their beer and eating their food. That said, are any of you Cincy people around tomorrow afternoon to maybe grab a beer or something and talk about your great city? I'm also open to any suggestions for things going on this weekend to check out.

Just walked by it 5 minutes ago. Didn't notice any significant updates

Does anyone have an idea of an opening date for the Barrio in Gateway? Looks like it's close, but I haven't been able to find anything

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
I disagree that the articles have that kind of tone. Bringing a full service grocery store like Heinen's downtown is undeniably a risk. Not to mention that profit margins for grocery stores are super thin in general. Also, downtown's population is still well below the accepted threshold to be able to support such a store. The article fairly addressed these concerns, but I think also showed signs of optimism.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I've seen the court community services working along the Red Line sometimes, but I can't remember the last time I've seen them. Rail isn't a priority for the agency. GCRTA needs to start the funding programming and equipment procurement process NOW if it wants new rail cars in 5-10 years. The existing Blue/Green line cars "MAY" last that long. But GCRTA staffers on West 6th and at Central Rail, as well as Joe C's own actions or lack thereof, all point to that process not starting until after Calabrese retires. And his contract continues until 2020. We're stuck with him until 2020? Well, I guess that's only 5 years... The Red Line car rehabilitation is supposed to make them last another 15 years. You seem to say that it is questionable about the LTR cars lasting that long. Is there any inclination from RTA that they'd be looking into new rolling stock that could function on both lines? Seems like the timelines wouldn't match up..

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
The state of the Shaker Blvd trench is awful. I'm sure there would be people willing to volunteer cleaning it up. I sure would if such an effort were organized. But, those lines seem less than a priority for the agency

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I suspect that the person who produced that piece, and indeed many people in Cleveland, don't ride rail lines in other cities or countries. You haven't seen graffiti until you've ridden trains in Europe. I was going to mention that. The most graffiti I had ever seen was on a train ride from Cologne to Essen in Germany. It's also all over the place along the NY Subway (even on the cars!) and the DC Metro, among many others. As long as there is no negative or hateful message written, I don't have a problem. There could be some other steps taken to spruce up the views along that route though.

Graffiti, trash plague view along RTA route from Hopkins Airport to Downtown Cleveland http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/cleveland-metro/graffit-trash-plague-view-along-rta-route-from-hopkins-airport-to-downtown-cleveland Please find me one city where you don't see any graffiti while on a rail line. The trash though, yeah that's a problem

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
I agree. I was at this intersection yesterday and thought to myself how it would be nice to have another tower in view from that perspective. Now you can only see the Terminal Tower as the other buildings on Public Square are not in sight.

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
Exactly, summer after senior year of HS in '07 I went to 25 games...because of the $7 upper outfield reserved seats. Seating capacity will drop to mid 30,000s, and I'm sure they'll sell a bunch of standing room for big games like opening day. But I doubt you'll see those being sold if the game isn't expected to be at max capacity.

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
I guess just standing space/party deck area. I don't foresee many people going up there to watch the game. It made sense at Coors Field because they put a bar in the upper deck. But I don't really understand what the draw is supposed to be up there

Nothing too exciting, but here are a couple pics from today showing the progress

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Just saw this today at the Destination Cleveland Visitor Center. It doesn't look like this was part of the original renovation renderings up thread. Edit: At second glance it doesn't actually look like it's a structure for a new facade. Just wonder what it's for

Cleveland: Zoning Discussion
I was just thinking about this the other day. Is there a Cleveland code requiring residents to clear their sidewalks? This was always something we had to do in DC

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
No, I haven't seen any announcement about store hours. And what don't you like about it? It's a unique space for a grocery store, so the layout is naturally going to be a bit different.

I was told February 22nd by someone at Heinen's Corporate. Off by three days. Store is set to open at 10am on February 25th. http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/northeast-ohio/2015/01/12/heinens-store-opening-in-downtown-cleveland-set-for-feb-25/21650379/
